This was my second visit to Rio and I'm so glad I chose to stay in Santa Teresa at the Mama Shelter. The hotel is what I would describe as "boutique", it has character, art, smaller in size, incredible staff, and a perfect location. It was easy to take an Uber whenever we needed to get out of the area but I would encourage you to walk, there is so much to see and do in Santa Teresa which makes it convenient to come back to your room when you needed to. The popular Escadaria Selarón is easy to get to, which is best seen in the early morning when it is not overrun by all the visitors. Breakfast was ok, it had bread, eggs, meat, coffee, juice and fruit which was enough to start the day but not something you'd rush down for. The decor was lively with bones of a building to remind you of the stunning history that runs through the neighbourhood.

We had never been to Rio de Janeiro before coming here and ended up booking this place by chance. We are extremely happy we did! They are very helpful with making tour bookings, and explaining about things to do in Rio. It is located in Santa Theresa, which is a very artsy and charming area to stay and you can do all the activities easily using uber or taxi. It is also a safe area where you can walk around and enjoy the graffiti filled streets. The breakfast is excellent, it was the best breakfast we had in Brazil and we stayed almost 3 weeks. All the staff is extremely helpful and attends to all your needs. Thank you Tatiele for being awesome! Orlando and Ferdinanji

It was worth to stay a little outside of the main turistic area in Rio! We found a space with a lot of hype, atmosphere and mood! Food was tasty, staff always smiling and friendly! FD staff were always helpful! I would definitely recommend and stay again! Thank mama!!

Amazing hostel in Santa Teresa, my go-to place to stay when in the area. Comfy , cosy and excellent service. The massive open air restaurant for breakfast is stellar. The bar being closed at 7.30pm a bit shocking but overall a great stay and well priced

A pretentious youth hostel for the price of a decent top end hotel. Smelly room, without view, without amenities, ridiculuos breakfast that doesn't start at 7am as advertised, mediocre wifi. Never again.
