One Night Staycation with Lounge access

We decided to book a night at the Sofitel Adelaide to celebrate our anniversary. Our return to this hotel after its soft opening. We reserved a package which included valet parking and a $50 credit towards dining. The check in was smooth with the concierge taking our key and Sam checking us in. Room 1813 had an excellent outlook towards to the River. The room amenities were as always excellent. A bottle of wine and some chocolates greeted us thanks to our ALL Platinum status. We made our way down to afternoon tea in the lounge which was pleasant. It was served to the table. the sweet treats were excellent the savory was some bread and dip and some nut mix ( felt like something from Coles bulk buy). The Coffee was excellent We wondered off for a walk and returned around 5.15 for Canapes and drinks. We were greeted by Nick who we found was the Lounge manger. Of concern and interest was that he told us that they were expecting up to 120 people in the lounge: and that we would have 1 hour if the lounge got busy ! we were told that many Sofitel hotels were going to introduce time restrictions ! I would suggests Sofitel needs to consider how many lounge access rooms they sell and plan accordingly. We had complimentary lounge access but if we had paid $600 for a night then we would have been very dissatisfied if we were told we had to leave in 1 hr. You would need to publish this in the booking page ! We listened to this and sat down, we were told that drinks and canapes were table service but could help ourselves to the buffet spread. The drinks service was well catered for by Lucas and Adrian. They were attentive and ensured we were offered drinks and we felt looked after. The lounge likely had 30 people come through that night. The canapes were 1 spring roll and one piece of chicken. The wine selection was good with many SA wines : The Hasketh pinot Noir surprisingly good: The base spirits were of reasonable quality. The Room service was excellent but not the food. This was the same at Breakfast the next morning. We decided to try the Lounge Breakfast since we had been disappointed with the breakfast on 2 previous occasions in the main restaurant. We were again greeted by Nick at 9 am : many tables were vacant. He again told us that there were over 120 lounge access guests and that last orders was 9.45AM ? He took our coffee orders and this was promptly brought to our table. For 25 mins we watched the 3 staff cleaning tables but no one came to take our breakfast order. This was taken at 9.25. At 9.45 Lucas kindly inquired if we were okay since we had been sitting there for 45 mins with a coffee and some fruit. We then said that we were waiting for our breakfast. He promptly went to see where things were up to in the kitchen . He returned to say it was coming soon. All this time Nick was no where to be seen. He then appeared to clear our plates and I raised the issue of the quality of service . There were less than 12 guests in the lounge. He was very defensive and advised that the breakfast was made by the room service kitchen ! But he never checked or kept us informed. Sofitel Adelaide seems to struggle with hitting the mark with quality and memorable food offerings. The A la Carte breakfast looked identical to what we could have served ourselves in the main restaurant. The Crepes were leathery and dry : It is a shame that a French Heritage hotel cant get the crepes right .The quality and freshness of the produce is less than 5 star. ( I would again ask you to consider going to the Playford for breakfast to consider the difference). Check out was efficient and the concierge team are excellent. Happy to chat to any management staff who are interested !

Stunning hotel. We are Platinum Accor members so we used one of our suite room upgrades to celebrate our wedding night. I wanted to be able to get ready for the day in the suite with an early check in. Normal time is 3pm, early is 12 but I requested a 10am. They secured a 12 check in for us but could not confirm earlier than that until the actual morning. Luckily for us it was granted that morning so we were able to arrive early and relax in our stunning suite for several stress free hours before our 2pm registry office nuptials. The suite was stunning! All marble and paneling with bespoke carpets and furnishings. There was a powder room near the entry for guests, a generous sized lounge room, a walk in closet and the bedroom included a stunning open plan bathroom with its own separate toilet, shower and bathtub. All tastefully done to give a feeling of French refined elegance. Both the suite and our platinum membership gave us access to club Millesime so we went down around 11am to check it out. This is outside of active hours but you are still welcomed into the space to sit and enjoy complimentary tea and coffee or juice. The concierge gave us the full tour which included a look at their curated wine collection. It was interesting to note that had we wished we could have held a small reception there with drinks included for $80 pp. Complimentary afternoon tea starts at 3 and then from 5 (or 5.30?? ) a happy hour that goes for a minimum of 2hrs but longer, we’re told if it’s busy. There was complimentary food on offer , a kind of mini buffet of cold meats, breads, cheeses, soup, fruit and salad as well as a small plate of popcorn cauliflower and some chicken wings. We had a small celebration with friends in our suite and then availed ourselves of this for dinner. The complimentary drinks are listed on a menu and both the riesling and the Shiraz were delicious and the waitress kept refilling our glasses. Sorry, I can’t remember what else was on the list but there were other choices. The staff were pleasant and professional without going over the top. It was a nice surprise to receive a knock at the door and a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a small dessert plate with congratulations written on it in chocolate. Our key did not allow us in to the pool area for some reason but a lady let us in. The three chandeliers over the pool were ridiculously gorgeous. We’re not gym people so sorry, can’t comment there. Lastly, the breakfast buffet at Garçon Bleu was generous and varied. Cute tea pots too. You know you’re in a classy joint when even the toilets are so nice you could move in there. Late check out of 12 was granted and the process was effortless. Can highly recommend, we didn’t want to leave

It is a difficult hotel to review as there are good points and bad. THE GOOD - large restaurant , nicely presented food, views of city, but can be cold due to large glass windows. Views from bedrooms (mostly looking at buildings with long distance scenery) Raif - He is an outstanding concierge, very helpful and friendly. THE NOT SO GOOD- the ground floor reception area is very small, with people waiting to check in or out. A small area of seats, a very small coffee/drinks bar all by door to street which is heavy to open and sends cold air into the area, at the back another small area of seats for people waiting for taxis. Our room was badly planned, wardrobe with no doors on, table with one chair, not enough space on bathroom vanity for toiletries. There was one bottle of water in the fridge which was never replaced. To get housekeeping you have to ring Reception who are usually busy checking people in and out, no direct number to housekeeping. The location is partly good in that you can walk to Leigh street where there are several small restaurants. (They are often full so make a reservation). The downside - Currie Street has lots of bus stops and is a student area - not good after nightclubs have been open, we went out one morning to find broken windows on buildings, with blood stains on pavement, bottles , plus the electric scooters that are available to hire through the city just lying on the pavement . I understand the hotel are trying to get the Council to do something about the night clubs.

Beautiful hotel with outstanding service and the perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We booked a club milessime room and enjoyed pre dinner drinks in the club before dinner at Garçon Bleu. Door fabulous, if a little expensive. Our waiter was attentive and efficient, and our sommelier provided excellent advice and perfect wine choices from the extensive largely French wine list. The bed and pillows were super comfortable, the amenities top quality and in spite of being a Friday night in the centre of the city, the room and hotel was very quiet. Thank you to the excellent concierge also, and front of house staff were also fabulous. A wonderful stay!

Overall a pleasant stay once we were past the check in. Courtesy to say good afternoon and welcome to our hotel first before requesting identification! - I thought I was at the wrong building and had accidentally checked in up the road at correctional services ! Once in, the service and restaurant staff did a splendid job of making our stay special- all meals in the restaurant were wonderful. Back to check out and frosty staff behind the desk again. First and last impressions count with customer service! Saturday night we relived our youth listening to a near by night club until early hours of the morning - Sunday night peaceful again. Is this Sofitel quite as good as its brands reputation - we would say does fall short.
