Good Friday two day Easter Break

Myself & partner booked a Secret Escape for two nights neither of us had stayed in Bridgwater before , we arrived very early to beat M5 traffic but were able to leave car in car park & explore the town for a few hours the weather was awful so hard to gage a proper impression but was ok for our needs. We checked in & were given a card for a free drink at the bar , our room on the second floor was right by the lift but we didn’t hear it over the next couple of nights , the room was spacious and a very comfortable bed , lovely overhead shower with good pressure , kettle , fridge couldn’t be faulted . We went for a drink in the town but ended up in the bar opposite The Cobblestones , a rock bar & live music & then came back to hotel for a night cap , the bar was well stocked & a lovely barmaid didn’t get her name who worked so hard & long hours . Breakfast on both days was very good & kept us going all day 5/5 , on our leaving day an Easter egg was left in our room which was a nice touch all in all top marks all round .

This is a well overdue review but I did mention to the manager back in January that I would leave a positive review as we had a lovely meal and was well looked after by the manager. Really nice chap! Food was great and staff super friendly. Such a lovely restaurant and we will be back soon :)

What a hotel. We booked 2 nights with secret escapes the hotel faultless rooms top spec bar and restaurent faultless the receptionest very helpful (olivia ) Loved the bar and restaurant hopfuly we will return with secrect escapes or maybe a deal with accor

Had a great stay at the Mercure Hotel! The staff were incredibly helpful and made me feel welcome throughout. The food was absolutely amazing—delicious and well presented. I’d definitely recommend this hotel and would be happy to stay again.

Rooms need better maintenance and servicing

This was a secret escape one-night deal for a Privledge room, free parking, a welcome drink, three course dinner and breakfast. Surely "priviledge" rooms are meant to be the showcase of the hotel? Well, ours (room 406) had a blocked sink (meaning we couldn't wash our hands and we had to spit our toothpaste down the loo!), there was no soap in the dispenser, the shower hose sprayed water everywhere when not in its cradle, the drencher shower didn't work and the room was so hot on arrival that the lovely tray of welcome nibbles had all gone crusty on the outside. Even once the air-con was turned right down, the temperature of the room combined with the extremely thick duvet meant we got little sleep. We were looking forward to the 3 course Marco Pierre White meal in the restaurant, but ......the Secret Escapes offer hadn't mentioned that the meal was from a restricted menu.... one of the four starters had run out (whitebait) and the two we tried (chicken soup and potted ham) were nothing special. The mains (Fish & Chips and chicken forestiere) were overcooked. The New York Baked Cheesecake had obviously come out of the freezer BUT, the ice-cream (the best bit about the meal) was delicious. The breakfast was also good. Had our room been properly maintained and serviced we probably would have been more receptive to the choice and standard of the evening meal in the restaurant. When we came to check out, there was no receptionist on the desk just a sign saying they were "dealing with a guest". OK we thought and waited a bit.....when the ambulance service turned up this confirmed for us that someone was obviously in more need than us. BUT - then the receptionist returned, coffee cup in hand, having just taken a break! We explained the issues with the room to her and she was "terribly sorry", but no notes were taken so they could be sorted out. I suggested the list of issues needed writing down so the issues could be sorted out for the next guests . Eventually she wrote some notes of the back of an unwanted card receipt of the couple that checked out before us giving me no faith that the issues will be addressed! Where was the hotel's procedure to deal with reported issues - surely she should have pulled out a folder, taken a form out of that folder and completed it detailing the reported issues ready to hand it over to the maintenance team on Monday morning. That way I'd have left believing our experience was a one off and that the hotel was striving to improve...... Its a shame because it could be such a nice hotel in a town that is obviously in need of something to kick start its regeneration.

It was disappointing to learn that the maintenance issues in your Privilege room and that it did not meet the expectations and the standards we strive to uphold for our guests. Your feedback regarding the blocked sink, shower difficulties, and room temperature is noted, and we understand how these factors affected your overall comfort. It’s unfortunate that these concerns were not mentioned during your stay, as was highlighted during check-out, we would have gladly moved you to a different room immediately to ensure a more comfortable experience. Maintenance have fixed the issues mentioned however we were unable to replicate the problem with the sink or rain shower during our checks, so will continue to monitor this for any potential concerns. We regret that the dining experience did not align with your expectations, particularly regarding the restricted menu and the quality of certain dishes and will feed this back to the MPW and Secret Escapes teams to be considered next time the promotion and menu are revised. We appreciate your comments about the breakfast and the ice cream. Sorry if you were kept waiting for a minute or two when checking out, Lilac was working alone so popped to get a hot drink and was asked a question regarding another guest which delayed her return to the desk a little.
