Not a very good 3rd visit...

I’ve stayed at Ibis Styles Batam three times now and while the staff are always polite and friendly, my recent experience left me disappointed. During my stay, I requested an iron at check-in (on Friday), which was promptly sent to my room. However, at 5:45 AM (on Saturday) I was abruptly woken up by a phone call from staff member, who politely asked for the iron back as other guests were waiting for it. While I understand the demand for irons, disturbing a guest so early in the morning is unacceptable unless it's an emergency. This is not the first time I’ve encountered iron shortages at this hotel—on previous stays, I was made to wait due to the limited availability of irons. However, being woken up at 5:45 AM to return one is something I didn’t expect. To improve service, I suggest the hotel either inform guests in advance if there’s a time limit for using the iron or consider purchasing more irons to accommodate the demand. The staff are kind, but this early-morning disruption significantly affected my overall experience.

It’s Like Living In A Shipping Port 🚢

It has been five years since I visited Batam and I decided to make a return trip with my colleagues to this port city. I took a ferry and disembarked at Harbour Bay Ferry Terminal. The journey to the hotel by car took 8mins, which is 4km away. Opened in 2016, ibis Styles Batam Nagoya offers an interesting concept - A shipping container port theme hotel. The hotel corridor is reminiscent of Batam’s busy port and shipyard. I love how they incorporated the shipping container as a closet design inside the room. I had booked a Superior Room for my two nights stay here in Batam. I was accommodated in Room No. 517 on the fifth level of the hotel. The room is spacious at 25 square metres. The guest rooms start from the second to eight floors. Hotel amenities such as restaurant, pool and gymnasium are all on the first floor. Unfortunately, my room is situated at the front of the hotel, which faces a busy road. As a result, I could hear motorbikes zooming past till late night. If you prefer a quiet room, please request one at the back of the building, which faces the swimming pool. Whilst the room amenities are sufficient to my needs and the housekeeping is good, the room maintenance needs improvement. The wash basin seems choked with slow flowing water. The bathroom sealant is mouldy and should have been given a new coating. The Wi-Fi network seems slow at times. There is no SMART TV inside the room, however Cable TV channels offering Mandarin, Korean and Japanese programs are available for one’s viewing pleasure. Additionally, there are Singapore TV channels from Channel 5, 8, Suria to Vasantham. Universal power sockets are available at the bedside. Hence, do remember to bring a USB plug for the powering and charging of your mobile devices. The hotel rooftop houses a bar called Fullmoon Fusion Bar, which is a nice place to chill out. It offers Asian-fusion cuisine and operates between 5pm and 1am (2am on Saturday). I did not spot any convenience stores in the hotel vicinity. If you are in urgent need of toiletries, you can order them via Grab delivery. I also noticed some food stalls selling Rujak, which are lined along the main road, some 200m (3mins walk) from the hotel. If you are adventurous and would like to try Indonesian street food, this place might be for you. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service to Nagoya Hill and Grand Batam Mall at 11am, 2pm and 6pm every Saturday and Sunday. Below are the distances from the hotel to the various places of interest: * Nagoya Hill Shopping Centre - 3km (8mins by car) * Batam City Square Mall - 4.1km (9mins by car) * Grand Batam Mall - 4.8km (10mins by car) * Pasar Penuin Wet Market - 4.8km (10mins by car) * Mega Mall Batam Centre - 7.3km (17mins) With more than 400 hotels in Batam and more opening in the next few years, ibis Styles Batam Nagoya needs to level up its game to stay relevant in this competitive market. Despite the room maintenance concerns, ibis Styles Batam Nagoya remains a good property for travellers seeking a value-for-money accommodation.

1. The refrigerator in the room remained non-functional even after it was reported. 2. Only one access card was provided, which was inconvenient when I needed to leave the room alone. Without an access card, it's impossible to access the floor unless someone else assists. 3. The breakfast spread was average. Some main dishes were overly salty, and the drinks were excessively sweet. 4. On Sunday, was the most crowded during breakfast. Despite the lack of available seating, hotel guests were not allowed to sit in the exterior areas of the restaurant. Several people, including us, had to wait for seats to become available. That said, the hotel staff were friendly and did their best to make our stay enjoyable, which we truly appreciated.

Weekend Get Away

The Staff are warm and friendly. For a quiet getaway, Ibis Style Nagoya is the perfect place. It's situated away from the shopping and tourist area but conveniently located to Grab to the major shopping malls (between 5-10 mins away) from the hotel. I gave an average for Location for those who like staying near the main malls. My only complain would be the refrigerator, it's not even cold. Been staying there for 3 visits and seems all the rooms fridge are the same. Apart from this, the Hotel is recommended if you want a nice quiet stay.

Bad experience in Ibis Style Batam Nagoya

Overall is a bad experience. Housekeeping is not done thoroughly, there was a bunch of hair in the shower room, fridge not working, bed sheet have stains and black dirts, a chocolate cake was meant for another guest and requested housekeeping to take it away once we checked in, few hours went by, nobody remove it away after 2 following up calls to the reception. Left the cake outside and went out 11am next day, cake was still sitting right beside our door. Horrible service. Mosquito was in the room and i was bitten by mosquitoes after my shower and before my sleep. Twin bed was separated after housekeeping when we have requested them to join the bed and they have join the bed. Queen bed wasn't available is fine but separating the bed again after housekeeping is really a hassle again to call up housekeeping so we did ourselves. Replacing of refrigerator was so long, took about almost 2 hours to do it. I have never experience and expected this kind of bad service from a 3 star hotel. Oh lastly, asked them to vacuum the floor but they don have a vacuum, only mop so they mop the floor without entering into the shower with a bunch of hairs, so we end up clearing the hair ourselves using the shower head-.-
