Some good points and some improvements. First the good- close to Kotora Westfield’s, nice area outside the bar to sit for a drink, friendly staff, foxtel channels, free parking(which is hard to find towards the centre of Newcastle unfortunately), pool. Improvements- Bed not the best (Novotel beds were heaps better), pillows are as flat as pancakes (bring your own), no shower cap in bathroom which made it tricky to keep my hair dry- I did not realise these little extras were not included, the room was run down, bathroom door is sliding and leaves a gap when ‘closed’ and not a very bright light in bathroom. I probably would not stay again.

For future stays we would welcome you to contact our friendly staff, as your comfort is very important to us and we do have a selection of alternative pillows, if the ones in your room are not as you desire. It would also be really helpful for you to contact our reception (email: desk@mercurecharlestown.com.au) so we can determine which room you were staying in and assess it accordingly. Our bathroom doors have been installed in a professional manner to consider privacy, however, if you have noticed a gap, it may mean that it requires a maintenance repair. Very please when we arrived reception had a Ryan one of the best I have meet,upgraded room very nice indeed Really keen to have lunch but unfortunately didn't but advised to book for tea Next morning went for breakfast which was very nice great chef Only down side was a very rude woman who was trying to manage the kitchen ,very poor operator soiled our stay

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. It is great to hear that you were well looked after by Emily and Ryan and you were able to experience a top floor room. These rooms boast a balcony, and depending which side, either a beautiful tree top outlook or a distant district outlook, all the way to Stockton, Newcastle, NSW. As you have mentioned, we do not offer a walk in lunch menu but, in the future, if you have a group of 10 or more and can book ahead, we are always willing to discuss how we can cater to your needs. We are sorry to hear your morning was tainted and we will follow up with the breakfast staff that were working on this day. It is always our intention to give our guests the best possible service and experience and our breakfast staff take pride in welcoming our new and repeat guests, so we are sorry that our service didn't meet your expectations on this occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.... it is hard to beat that beautiful hot buffet breakfast over looking the pool on a gorgeous spring morning!

A great hotel in Charlestown Square

The room upstairs was a bit dark so I requested for a change to downstairs which is more brighter and much better room as it leads to the car park outside. The front desk gentleman was very kind and helped me with tv technicalities. The buffet was simple and not overpowering. I would greatly suggest a night stay and so close to Charlestown Square.

We pride ourselves in meeting the needs and expectation of every guest and we thank you for providing us with the opportunity to meet your needs when you were not completely happy. Our recently upgraded smart TV's can be a little tricky at times and we are so glad you utilised the facilities of Charlestown Square... it's the largest shopping and entertainment destination in the Hunter Region, and, just a short drive or 20min walk. We are so glad that the end result is a 5-star review stay, and we look forward to welcoming you again soon!

Good, but looking a bit old

I'm being a bit harsh by only giving this hotel a 3, but I can't go to a 4. Main reason is that the hotel does look a bit old from the outside and has almost a motel type look. I picked this hotel purely for location as it was right where I needed to be for work. Apart from the look of the place, everything else would have got a 4. The room I had was perfectly fine. There's a great breakfast with cold buffet and freshly cooked eggs to order with other hot food. You can get real coffees made from the bar area, not just the pre made help yourself stuff. The pool area is really nice. There is a restaurant in the hotel too called Madison and the food was really good. I was really impressed with quality. The hotel just needs a more modern exterior look to be really impressive.

You have listed alot of our favourite (and most popular) things about the hotel, including: our central location to all that Newcastle and Lake Macquarie has to offer; our hot buffet breakfast, over looking the pool, with that beautiful morning sun, and, our chef will be very happy to receive your positive feedback too. Not only is the quality impressive, we try to keep the price down too, to make it affordable for our guests to splurge on a 3-course meal for only $69 per person. Thank you for your feedback on the exterior of the hotel too. We are constantly upgrading little by little, while trying to also keep the history and charm of this iconic hotel built in the late 1970's. We have a few additions to come over the following years, which I think you will be happy to see. Thanks again and we look forward to welcoming you back soon.
