A nice hotel with some nice people, however had a terrible experience with one of the staff members on the last day regarding Breakfasts, they were definitely not nice nor understanding. Similar to the other review talking about rude behaviour from the supervisor during Breakfast for a platinum member, we faced the same from the hotel reception rudeness as a gold member. They told us at Check-In that Breakfast was till 10am, and failed to tell us that on our second day it would finish earlier at 9.30am (Monday Public Holiday, Tuesday Normal Day), thereafter they blamed us for the miscommunication.

We will respond the same way that we replied to you on another platform, right before you posted on this one. We are pleased that you were able to enjoy the hotel and our staff in general. Our friendly, and accommodating staff are usually our most highly rated attribute so, it was disappointing to read that our service did not meet your expectation and prompted us to look more deeply into this. As such, it is quite upsetting that you still felt the need to write a review like this when, due to the misunderstanding of you not coming to breakfast before it closed, you were nevertheless provided with a refund and explanation email on 31/1/25. We took the benefit of the doubt thinking that you may have got the breakfast times mixed up as you were also here on a public holiday (where the breakfast hours are extended), hence the reason for the refund of the ***non-refundable discounted breakfast*** that you booked online prior to your stay. In any case, we are truly sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations on this occasion and look forward to the opportunity to welcome you again soon.

Worth the Visit to the Restaurant alone!

We had a wonderful stay at the Mecure Charlestown. The dinner that we had at the restaurant was the best meal in 23 days of travelling through Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania. The chef is remarkable. Brittney who checked us in also served us in the restaurant. She was professional and friendly and as she was the only staff contact we had, she made our stay so enjoyable. She is a keeper!

Some good points and some improvements. First the good- close to Kotora Westfield’s, nice area outside the bar to sit for a drink, friendly staff, foxtel channels, free parking(which is hard to find towards the centre of Newcastle unfortunately), pool. Improvements- Bed not the best (Novotel beds were heaps better), pillows are as flat as pancakes (bring your own), no shower cap in bathroom which made it tricky to keep my hair dry- I did not realise these little extras were not included, the room was run down, bathroom door is sliding and leaves a gap when ‘closed’ and not a very bright light in bathroom. I probably would not stay again.

For future stays we would welcome you to contact our friendly staff, as your comfort is very important to us and we do have a selection of alternative pillows, if the ones in your room are not as you desire. It would also be really helpful for you to contact our reception (email: desk@mercurecharlestown.com.au) so we can determine which room you were staying in and assess it accordingly. Our bathroom doors have been installed in a professional manner to consider privacy, however, if you have noticed a gap, it may mean that it requires a maintenance repair. Very please when we arrived reception had a Ryan one of the best I have meet,upgraded room very nice indeed Really keen to have lunch but unfortunately didn't but advised to book for tea Next morning went for breakfast which was very nice great chef Only down side was a very rude woman who was trying to manage the kitchen ,very poor operator soiled our stay

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us. It is great to hear that you were well looked after by Emily and Ryan and you were able to experience a top floor room. These rooms boast a balcony, and depending which side, either a beautiful tree top outlook or a distant district outlook, all the way to Stockton, Newcastle, NSW. As you have mentioned, we do not offer a walk in lunch menu but, in the future, if you have a group of 10 or more and can book ahead, we are always willing to discuss how we can cater to your needs. We are sorry to hear your morning was tainted and we will follow up with the breakfast staff that were working on this day. It is always our intention to give our guests the best possible service and experience and our breakfast staff take pride in welcoming our new and repeat guests, so we are sorry that our service didn't meet your expectations on this occasion. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.... it is hard to beat that beautiful hot buffet breakfast over looking the pool on a gorgeous spring morning!
