A particular staff member at reception is a life saver, I arrived in an emotional wreck as myself and the family arrived after being directed out of the city by Police due to the Riots. I've never driven in a big city before and that experience made me have a mental breakdown and wanted to flea Victoria. We saw the Pullman on the way out and I swerved in hoping a room was available the staff member unfortunately got me in a middle of a breakdown and made me comfortable and offered us a room as he was worried about my well-being. Being a member it was a quick check in and we were sent to the room again he wanted me to get rest. The room was generous in size and the shower had fantastic pressure plus generous in size. We had dinner at Windows it was good not the best and the Buffet Breakfast had a great selection but alot of peoples not just us said the food tasted off. Parking I was told would be $35 ended up being $70 and my drink voucher that was on my App I was told was invalid for that premises I'm still confused by that but hey we made it out of the Riots and again I can't stress how much the man at reception helped us out.

On check in there were wet robes and towels on the bed, the bathroom was dirty, there used coffee cups on the bench and rubbish in the bins. After notifying staff we were shuffled into a smaller room and were not given the option of having our bigger room back after it was cleaned even though we were staying for three nights. Very bad service for such a big chain.

Spent 5 days at this hotel. Initially I had received a phone call the night before to say we were being upgraded as the room we had booked was unavailable. Great I thought! Arrived and we were downgraded. Room was VERY shabby and in the Mercure part. We were given 2 free breakfasts and a bottle of wine as compensation. OK great. Funny thing though, we were for a walk around St Kilda, returned back to room and the wine had been taken! (It was given back the next day weirdly!) Got to the room and it was really quite poor so I spoke to concierge. The hotel was fully/overbooked so they couldn't move me. BUT eventually did after 2 nights. We were then upgraded to the Pullman and a Privilege room. Fantastic! BUT, I would not say this is a luxurious 5 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination! Towels: changed only in the pullman not mercure Carpet: never vacuumed Bed: made in pulman but not mercure Washing line above bath didn't reach all the way across so couldn't use Hair dryer in pullman was useless - heating element broken Bath dirty Room smelt stale - almost of stale smoke Windows not clean Yes standards have definitely dropped recently. Hotel staff however were lovely (most of them) and did what they could. But when the hotel is full with conferences they can't cope. They only had 2 people working at the bar and could not manage the number of customers. Overall, the stay was ok, and safe and easy access. But not 5 star.

Not a King Size bed

The only issue I had with my stay relates to the bed size. I had booked for a king size bed but what I found in my room was a split king bed (two king single beds pushed together). I felt then, and still feel now, deceived by the hotel website which is where I made my booking. The website should have said the bed was "like king size" not king size. I could not sleep comfortably, I kept waking up in the split between the two bed, which was very uncomfortable.
