Spacious modern room, close to beach

Had a 1 night stay here with a mate. Staff were friendly and quickly changed our room when we discovered the original had been smoked in. Continental breakfast was modest but price was okay, would probably try a nearby cafe next time. Underground car parking was great. Location is handy to the beach and saltwater pools, though most restaurants seemed to be along the boardwalk of the inner harbour (refer Honeysuckle pub and nearby area). The nearby Rustica restaurant is highly recommended. Only thing to improve the room is to install proper blackout curtains. I would stay here again, especially for a beach holiday. If in Newcastle for work or you want a bit more social atmosphere I would probably try one on the Harbourside

This is a chain of hotels so my stay was as I expected it, having stayed at a number of other hotel chains, previously. There's secure underground parking and the lifts work well, thankfully! I was checked in by a very pleasant chap who, also, provided me with 2 bottles of water along with my room key cards. The double room was large and clean, enough and the chap at the desk pointed me towards the beach as to where to go for a walk. To say the beach was stunning would do it an injustice! I thought it was the one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever visited and rivals that of Kuala Lumpur and a beach resort I had stayed in, in the USA. It was not that busy and only a few minutes walk from this venue so would have been very handy but we ran out of time and had to head back where we walked in the 'other direction' and found a venue for dinner. The room was very quiet and, despite there being a conference of some sort with a lot of those attending staying in the hotel, I didn't really hear much from them other than the clamour in the morning at breakfast. It was the usual fare of bacon, scrambled eggs, sausages, etc. but the coffee machine produced a good flat white and the wife enjoyed some fresh pancakes. Checking out was easy and involved handing over the room key cards and then getting on the lift to our car and we were on our way, with some more bottled water given to us by the Receptionist!

Novotel needs an Overhaul

The condition of the rooms is disgusting, checked in and immediately found hairs on towel in bathroom, on bed and on walls of shower. Called and asked if the room had been cleaned. Was upgraded to a balcony room which is their highest only to find filthy mould all on the curtains, door handle and shower ceiling. They were unable to move me again so had to stay in the room. Later that evening as it was getting cold turned the air on only to find it was not working, called reception they came and had a look and advised the setting was correct but nothing they could do till next day and maintenance would look at it, offered an additional blanket. This hotel is in extreme need of attention, cleanliness and the health of guests should be number one. The mould is just simply unacceptable.

Disappointing Stay – Not What I Expected from Novotel

Extremely Disappointing Stay – Unacceptable Room Conditions From the moment I entered the first room, I was greeted by a foul smell. I raised the issue with the front office staff, who offered a replacement room. Unfortunately, the second room was in the same condition. The duty manager then accompanied me to three additional vacant rooms, and all of them had the same unpleasant odor—some were even worse. As it was late in the evening after a long day, and not wanting to be overly demanding, I reluctantly accepted the fourth room. In hindsight, this was a mistake—I should have left and booked another Accor property in Newcastle. The condition of the room I stayed in was unacceptable. The basin drain was clogged, the shower area had visible mould in multiple spots, and when I moved the side table, the area underneath was filthy, with dust visibly swirling under the light. The most concerning part: I woke up feeling unwell the next morning and had to take two days off work due to illness. This stay not only caused inconvenience but also affected my health. Novotel Newcastle needs to seriously address its room hygiene and maintenance standards. I expected much better from an Accor property.

Dull, dreary and in need of renovation

Poor check in experience with a totally disinterested staff member. No acknowledgment of Accor status. Room was a harbour view room which didn’t offer much of a view. It was positioned above the hotel entrance and subject to a lot of noise. The window did not close fully with a large gap allowing in air and noise even when closed. The bedside phone didn’t work. The Foxtel channels were not working- no satellite being received. The exhaust in the bathroom didn’t work. On check in the bar wasn’t open and the foyer was soulless. I don’t recommend. There are better options available in Newcastle, so Accor needs to lift its game.
