Cheap and cheerful

The property is fine, yes it is super budget ... but it is clean, has wifi and parking. But .... the location. OK - I know it didn't 'move' ... but I had google mapped it, supposed to be a restaurant over the road .... was showing as open, but was closed. The only alternative within walking distance was the kebab place. It was OK - but not really the 'french cafe' that I was hoping for ! Plus ... I am guessing kebab place run by Muslins ... so not a glass of wine in sight !!

The hotel is run down and felt grubby. We left before we checked in, the outside had people milling around and it felt unsafe as well. The hotel was open with no one at reception - the whole place did not feel like an Ibis Budget and nothing like the several other ibis budgets that we have, and do stay in.

Never again, sadly.

About the only positives I can find to write is that the staff were friendly and welcoming enough, the hotel was, indeed, after my initial surprise/confusion, only a 10 minute walk into the beautiful town centre, 5 minutes indeed from the fortress and the free paring was fine. The ground floor room (disabled type and, though I'm not disabled, I was pleased to be on the ground floor as I had my dog with me) was lacking daylight. More like an airless prison dungeon. There was a small window in the bathroom but that meant leaving the bathroom door open all the time. I stayed in 5 Ibis hotels on this trip. This was BY FAR the worst night's sleep. Someone opened a very creaky/squeaky door at 2am, then banged it closed, same again at 3am then at about 5am. I basically hardly slept at all. The breakfast buffet was 'impoverished' (I was there early as I'd hardly slept!) when compared to the other equal branded Ibis hotels on the trip. When I came back at 0920 from a dog walk and wanted another coffee there was a sign saying the machine was 'HS ' ie hors service. I suspect it had simply been turned off as breakfast service ended at 0930. I wasn't convinced the young morning receptionist really cared about the door squeaking and banging when I politely reported it. I suspect, looking round the property, that it was the 'back door' onto the rear car park which the night receptionist probably used to go outside during the night.... They MUST have woken the other guests up on that corridor too! The furniture in the room had seen better days, The mattress was, thankfully, comfortable. This hotel was not any cheaper than the others around France. I would regrettably and advise people to avoid it.

The room on the whole was clean and adequate for our one night stop over. The room was hard to get into and we were not given the wifi code. However we discovered at night that it was like sleeping in an enclosed cell. There was no air conditioning, no fan and no facility to leave the window open. It was ridiculously hot and airless. The area does not feel safe and the car park is unlit. Not a very good night's sleep.

We stopped here as a last minute decision as we were supposed to be camping nearby and there was a heavy downpour. We didn't fancy pitching the tent so found the cheapest hotel in Belfort. This was it. You get what you pay for, it cost us €41 for the night for a double room which was fine. We opted for no breakfast as we prefer to do that on the road. The receptionist was friendly enough but not particularly cheery, our room had a bed, TV, nightstands and a bathroom, everything we needed for the evening basically. It's clean in the room, though the reception is a bit messy when it's been raining, mud on the floor and a puddle of something...?!? The hotel isn't as close to the town as suggested on Booking.com but we walked anyway as we are keen Pokémon Go players and needed the km lol! It takes about 25 mins to walk and you go through the citadel and old part of town so that's nice. Everything was perfectly fine in the hotel until the morning, when we got up to shower before leaving. I went first and the shower base filled with water as you would expect, then my gf came in and pointed at the floor. There is an overflow hole in the base of the shower which just lets water run all over the bathroom floor!!! It does go back in and down a plug to a point but only after major flooding! Luckily we had nothing on the floor other than a towel, which drowned. Surely a larger plughole would have been a better option? It's a risky option for the hotel as the bathroom is up a step from the bedroom, if someone slipped on the soaking floor they could easily break their spine or crack their head open on the step! Other than that, there are hot and cold drink machines in the reception area, and the reception closes at 9pm so check ins after that must use the automated check in outside (our reservation didn't show up on this btw), you can also use your room key to get in the door if you ever been in the town past 9pm. There's plenty of parking, free WiFi which actually had a good coverage, for me anyway, and the beds are roomy.
