We live in mainland Spain and traveled to Ayr for a family wedding, booked Mercure due to its good location. My first comment has to be about reception, we received a lovely genuine friendly welcome from Lynn she was so nice and very helpful. I asked to borrow an iron & for some extra T-bags, she had them delivered to my room immediately. We had a lovely sea view room 562 , rooms are a bit tired looking and could do with a refresh, however they are spotlessly clean and I have to mention the complimentary toiletries Elemental Herbology, absolutely beautiful. So yes I would recommend this hotel, we only stayed 2 nights before flying back home so didn’t get a chance to try the restaurant.

Stayed here for one night before a long day of travelling. The hotel has free on site parking which is always great but there were no spaces available. Thankfully we did find space to park. The rooms were clean and very spacious which was great. When checking out, reception staff were very blunt and uninterested. Other than that other staff were ok and pleasant enough.

Another good trip to this hotel as a stopover of two nights for a wedding anniversary celebration. First impressions count and we knew the hotel is not a pretty one to look at. It is well located for all things Ayr, beaches, transport and Burns country. We arrived an hour early to say we are here and to check into the car park. Met by a grumpy unhelpful receptionist whose attitude was "well if you must" We had reserved a superior room with a sea view paid for the champagne extra (wedding anniversary) Whilst our room was freshly decorated we had little of a sea view (think Fawlty Towers sketch - I expected a sea view - its over there between the land and the sky!) We were on the third floor of six in what I queried with staff is this a superior room. Part of the package were newspapers, robes, slippers - oh and champagne on arrival in the room - oops none of these. Questioned where champagne was at reception "oh room service must have forgotten to put it in!" We were delivered a warm bottle of champagne in an ice bucket - hardly instantly drinkable! I would suggest that no one bothers with the superior room package. Not worth the extra cost for an inferior room and service. If you want a sea view ask for a room on at least the fourth floor - five or six would be better. On our previous stay we had an Privilege room on the 6th floor. If you want a bit more comfort go for one of those. Room service was a bit naff, failed to clear away fresh fruit platter left for us on arrival and ice bucket and glasses still in room on departure. Bit embarrassing having to go to reception to ask for loo rolls! None of the doors in the room closed properly and two had loose hinges with on one door it hanging off! On the plus side all other staff we met were good. Donald was excellent, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable re all things local.

Great stay here. Very friendly staff, Darren, Donald, Lynn and Andrew were very helpful. Stayed here for a few weeks and had no problems. The location is perfect, near the beach, restaurants, bars, airport and the town. I would definitely stay here again.

AWFUL HOTEL!!

We have visited Ayr a few times recently, normally opting for a B&B. This time we chose to spend a bit more and stay at the Mercure, mainly to enjoy the facilities and the service a hotel provides. THIS WAS A HUGE MISTAKE - THIS IS NOT A FRIENDLY OR WELL RUN HOTEL!! The rooms are not clean, the towels and sheets have either not been cleaned properly or worse still not changed. AWFUL!! The WiFi is free, but not worth connecting to as is extremely poor, so we ended up suing all our data on our mobiles. The phone in the room doesn't connect to the front desk - so I had to call from my mobile, only to be answered by a member of staff who was of no help and not really interested in my requests. On the evening of our last night, after a nice day day in Ayr we returned to the hotel and were looking for a light snack or even a sandwich. Thinking this was not going to be an issue as the room service states 24/7 We were informed that no food was available that night because the chef was busy catering for other guests and was not prepared to cater for any more. I asked a simple question. "These other guests, have they paid more than us? Do they have a different rate or deal?" Three different people approached us and whilst they were sorry they could not let us order, they fully understood our disappointment. Yes - blowing smoke up our backsides!! My wife left reception to go to the room and distinctly heard loud and clear, staff member Donald speaking to another member of staff apologising to someone and stated "Sorry I was dealing with two rude people" At no point were we rude, we simply could not understand how a chef or kitchen staff that can provide food 24/7 was too busy to make a sandwich. If anyone was rude is was Donald who said to us twice "Its not my fault and I am not about to upset our chef over a sandwich" We left the hotel to find somewhere else to eat, bitterly disappointed and wondering why we bothered booking such an awful hotel. Needless to say we will not be booking here again in the future, nor will we recommend the Mercure Ayr to anyone. Now. Gordon Baille I am going to save you the hassle of writing your generic and meaningless response as I have posted it here. Maybe use the time you would have spend cutting and pasting this into my post by teaching Donald some manners and training your staff to do a better job I will be writing to Lindsay McClure privately and also contacting environmental health over the state and hygiene standards of the room, both of us are covered in bites from staying there. I will also contact the local council as its possible that establishments like yours could be driving visitors away from Ayr and choosing other locations to spend their money We very much appreciate your comments regarding your booking at Mercure Ayr Hotel.
