Old, tired and not worth the money - never again!

This hotel needs a total refurb. We originally booked a double room but when we went to the room the bath was scratched and dirty so we were upgraded to an executive room which although more spacious it did not appease our bath concerns. The executive room had not been cleaned with crisps left on the bed, the cups and spoons had crusty residue left on them and the miniatures provided were half used. During the night there was a fire alarm in which we had to evacuate and we could find no information in the room as to where the emergency meeting point was and there was no staff to direct you as to where it is. Eventually we were gathered in the right location and after an hour out in the freezing cold we were allowed back in to climb back up to the 10th floor via the stairs where our key card no longer worked so we had to repeat the journey back to the reception and back to our room again. In the morning we had no hot water and so we were upgraded to a suite which having stayed in suites at other hotel brands this was of poor quality. Again it was more spacious but all very tired with hardly any plugs requiring me to unplug the TV to have a socket to use to charge my phone. As well as constant issues with our key card and lock on the door making access difficult. Although the staff did their best to ease our stay by upgrading us and providing us with 1 complimentary drink this hotel can not justify charging what it does for what it is providing.

Perfectly positioned hotel and pretty good stay

The Mercure is ideally situated for a city break by Piccadilly Gardens with some great views of the city and centrally located. Zak who checked me in was very polite, chatty and efficient and the room was very large, warm and.comfortable. Everyone on the breakfast team was superb with an efficient check-in, a very friendly team clearing tables and the chef was effortlessly checking everyone was happy with their food while also ensuring the supply was plentiful. The housekeeping team were also great. The one negative? My key card stopped working every day stopping lift and room access and a trip to check in and my requests to get it sorted seemed to irritate one of the female receptionists more than me which seems to be the only explanation I can think of for her inability to give any eye contact or utter a word of response every time I went to reception with the problem. To coin a phrase, there is always one and apart from her inability to communicate politely, the rest of the team and hotel were fantastic. Worth a visit.

Better than last time

Having stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions in the past, the previous stay was well below what I expected. On this occasion many of the issues from my previous stay were addressed. The room was more like a four star room and didn't have the issues i had previously had. The bed was very comfortable and the air conditioning was easily controllable to keep the room comfortable. Considering the room was on the 14th floor, the shower had a good flow of hot water . I wasn't overwhelmed by the Nespresso machine but a kettle and instant coffee were provided. My main problem had nothing the hotel could do much about and that was to do with extraneous noise, Next to a major tram stop, even on the 14th floor, sounds from outside penetrated the room. As an Accor Platinum Card holder check -in was rather slow but the young lady who checked me out was very good. On balance this experience of the Mercure, Manchester Piccadilly was much improved on my previous visit so I can, once again, recommend it.

O quarto era bem pequeno, mesmo para 2 pessoas. Mal cuidado, lascas das madeiras das portas e mesinhas saindo…, no banheiro faltava um pedaço entre a porta e a banheira. Cortina do banheiro suja e apertada para tomar banho. Fiquei muito decepcionado, nao e’ padrão Mercure.

Everything fell into place. Parking is so convenient, reception was quick and efficient, rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. All this in the middle of Manchester. Would be happy to stay here again.

Room was very cold had to switch air conditioning off and the heater in the room was not very affective in heating the room at all. Thus complained to the hotel reception and they have a greed to refund part of the monies paid.

Absolute rubbish

Room window covered in mould, couldn’t even see out the window. Asked for 2 rooms next to each other and was assured we would have that but didn’t happen, breakfast poor, black pudding rock hard and dry as a bone. All food cold.

Hotel ok. On top floor. Room dated. Bathroom needs freshing up. Noise from lifts or heating all day and night. Didn't get much sleep. Breakfast good. Well placed for markets and drinking and eating places.

Brilliantly situated for Christmas markets & centre of Manchester at a very reasonable price. Reception staff were very welcoming & friendly. Housekeeping however, we found poor. We asked twice far a non slip bathmat - we are still waiting! We had a 2 night stay & our bed wasn't made, however the bathroom was cleaned & the room was restocked. We thought maybe they had been disturbed & forgot to complete our room, but when we told housekeeping team, they still did not rectify the matter. I know this may sound pretentious but when I go on a break, I enjoy not having to make my own bed or clean the bathroom! We ate in the restaurant - breakfast was standard though good. The service at night was rather slow though apologies were given in advance as only 1 chef for the evening. The food was delicious

We booked and paid for early check-in. When we arrived we had to argue to get one of the two rooms. The receptionist told us to come back later, was rude and completely lacked front of house skills. The walls are very thin between some of the rooms, so much so that we could hear the people next door on their phones! Ended up having to move rooms. Some rooms are dated and tired looking. The downgraded room was better than the upgraded. Some staff were very nice but given the choice I don't think I will be staying again. Pity as hotel is centrally located and could have excellent potential

Check in was a pain but had a drink in the Bar whilst waiting, although once sorted all very smooth, nice room and facilities, great views from the Bar and excellent Staff notably Kartik who was very helpful, Breakfast was first calss

We paid £130 for one night in a classic room. We arrived around five hours after check-in but the reception had to check a room was clean (in a 14-floor hotel!). In the room we found we had only one towel, no coffee, and there was hair in the bath. The heating didn't work either so we were freezing cold and the windows were thick with condensation in the morning. Travelodge standard on a Hilton budget - rip off!

Hotel in need of upgrade room was in poor condition heating not working Room wasn’t cleaned despite leaving at 9.00am and not returning till after 4 When it was cleaned they took towels from floor for reuse pretty poor

all in all the stay want as bed as we were expecting after reading some of the reviews, the room was warm and comfortable but was ready for some improvements, we paid £450 for 2 x nights inc breakfast. the breakfast was of good quality and a big enough range to suit most people the hotel location is perfect for exploring the city centre. only 2 x complaints we had, the lifts take forever at check out time, we waited 20mins for a lift that was empty, we would have taken the stairs but on the 10th floor with 2 x cases we decided to wait. second major concern / complaint was regarding the cleaners, we went out for the day to return to find our room door wide open, our room was opposite the lift doors so anybody could have walked in and taken any of our stuff including the Christmas presents we had purchased still in the bags by the door. we complained to reception who said the cleaners must have accidentally left the door open, we were very lucky that nothing had been taken as the door was wide open for several hours.

Broken door key readers (I had to run and take the elevator from the 9th floor few times), a blank invoice sent by e-mail (the person at the reception could not change the invoice details), dirty room.

Fantastic breakfast, comfortable room and bed, massively disappointed with the wi-fi, almost unusable, unfortunately I was under a time pressure, and every now and then it would work, but for a business orientated hotel that was a huge disappointment . The staff that I met were friendly and helpful, particularly the trainee who had started that day I arrived!

Stayed here for one night for business. It was absolutely not clean and pretty old. The location was great. It was also noisy in my room by night. Had a bad sleep. The people at the reception where not in a good mood so it was not a warm welcome. I would not recommend this hotel.

Great location an friendly staff but paid for late checkout till 6 pm and my key card was inactive at 11:00am, room furniture was outdated and bathroom need to be renewed. Stayed for only one night and no way gonna stay again at this hotel.

Rooms are oh so tired

What a shame to see such a prestigious hotel in such a state. In common with most Mercure hotels I’ve stayed in, the staff were great. Polite, friendly and very smart. The public areas were clean and well decorated e.g. the entry hall, reception and restaurant but then you get to your room. The first shock was the door was open (room 1121 - you might want to sort the lock out). This was due to an over tired door jam on a door which looked like some I’ve seen in inner city hi-rises which have been kicked in many times (and bear the scars). On entering, well, isn’t it tiny! Then the noise from next door, who were having a phone conversation with people at home and telling them they’d be home (in Glasgow by the sounds of it) tomorrow. Thin walls also complimented the old style double glazed windows. Brilliant view over the city and you could hear the bells of the trams, all night! The bathroom was extremely tired (and I see from other guests photos that it’s not the only one). It felt, grubby. But, to be fair to the cleaners, probably, because they’d worn through all the upper surfaces with scrubbing over the years. I notice from the managements comments on other reviews that they keep brining this to the Directors notice. Well I would suggest that you need to start shutting down some rooms. It’s tragic and not worthy of the Mercure badge. Breakfast was brilliant, though frankly, I couldn’t wait to get out of my cell, sorry, room, slamming the dodgy door behind me.

We are currently going through some room improvements across the hotel and the feedback that has previosuly been fed to our directors is starting to have impact with a number of rooms being upgraded however sadly this does take some time. This was a trip to Manchester to get my daughter installed at university , so a convenient location for a one night stay was needed, with relatively little time spent at the hotel. Location was excellent, being in the heart of the city and handy for Exchange Square, Arndale shops etc. Check in was pleasant enough, but missed several opportunities to impress : there was no recognition of Accor status, no reference to the breakfast deal on offer, which we might have used if we had known about it and above all, no mention of the car parking arrangements at the front of the hotel, which had I not realised just in time, could have occasioned an unwelcome fine ! Room was functional, but furniture aged and worn. Bed was standard double and comfortable. One minor irritant was that there were not one, but two safes in the room, neither of which worked. Overall, the place did the job at a reasonable price, but the Mercure has plenty of competition in Manchester and will be looking elsewhere next time.
