Hotel is a converted oast house in a pleasant location.Upon arrival we were met by a male receptionist who seemed to see his job as being as awkward as possible.Having previously rung the hotel to request a ground floor room he advised that we were on the second floor and their was only one flight of stairs that would be ok.The ground floor room was again requested and after much sighing and indicating he was undertaking a great favour the appropriate room was allocated.The room was of a good size and very clean.On the wall in the bathroom was a sticker highlighting care was needed to enter the bath and a non stick mat could be obtained from reception.Back to the same chap who immediately points out that their is a rough square in the bottom of the bath so we should stand on that and no mat would be required.Again everything seemed too much trouble for him lthough a mat was delivered to the room.Not a good start. The restaurant and breakfast were excellet

this was booked over the phone our card details taken reservation confirmed ,we arrived at the hotel to be told they were fully booked . we had to stay in a shabby B&B IN THE NEARBY VILLAGE WE FELT VERY LET DOWN

My only fault was it was cold around the bar area otherwise it would have been perfect. The staff were very nice and the entertainment (M57) was fantastic. On a personal note I would have liked the room rates to be a bit cheaper even though they were excellent.

Disappointing

Whilst the room was comfy and the location ideal, we couldn't help but feel disappointed as the sauna was padlocked up, the jacuzzi cemented over and the steam room demolished. Not only that, the swimming pool was certainly not heated as advertised, it was freezing! None of this was mentioned on the website so we not expecting it at all. To top it off, there was only one towel remaining for the health club so my hubby and I had to share it after our quick dip!

The jacuzzi was removed 5 years ago and a decision was made last year to remove the other facilities. We are currently on going works to remove these fully. I must apologise for the pool temperature on this occasion. We actually run the pool at around 31 -32 degrees, which is higher than normal leisure clubs. However, we experienced an issue with a valve and a contractor had to be called to site so I am sincerely sorry that this was not to the usual temperature we operate at. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to welcome you back again and redeem your faith in the service and standard we provide. The carpet in the entrance was dangerous (note appears that this was to be replaced as trader seen onsite the day we left). Rooms were very cold and relied on electric panel heaters which were old and inefficient. The staff in attendance at Breakfast time and during our get together following my Father's funeral were truly excellent. Thank you

Comfortable room, friendly staff, and good breakfasts, with plenty of parking in a good location for exploring this part of Kent. Hotel meets standards on essential elements of a short hotel stay although we were not sure how to adjust our bedroom heater. We plan a return visit.

We were looking forward to our stay in The Mercure Tunbridge Wells, but unfortunately the hotel did not live up to expectations. As a wheelchair user we had no option but to book an accessible classic room. The room was tiny and not at all suitable for accessible use. The bed was too high to comfortably get into , although once in it was extremely comfortable .However there was insufficient manoeuvring space within the room and equally in the bathroom very little thought had gone into assisting people with disabilities. The room itself was ,nonetheless, spotlessly clean however the décor of the room left a lot to be desired and looked old and tired, with bits of the carpet almost threadbare. Equally the room could have done with a coat of paint etc. Moving on to staff the reception staff were mostly very helpful and friendly, there was one gentleman who's attitude was clearly questionable and was most unhelpful towards myself when trying to pick up a parcel for myself from reception. Until I showed him a photo of the delivery he denied knowledge of its existence and then miraculously it appeared. Overall however the vast majority of staff we spoke to were friendly and helpful. We did not eat at the hotel as we felt prices were too steep and not much choice ended up going into Pembury for meals. Likewise returning late to the hotel we did try to get a drink at the bar but it was closing at 10pm just as we arrived. To summarise I fail to see how this hotel has four stars, it certainly needs modernisation.

Great staff, nice hotel but the pool was only open to guests between 6pm and 8pm which is a strange time as guests are either yet to return or are preparing to go out for dinner. Surely 7am to 9am would be a better 2 hour slot for a pre-breakfast swim. Also, no safe pedestrian access off the site, we had to walk down the roadway when going out at night. But all the staff were great, helpful and friendly.

under covid 19 restrictions, breakfast in a bag if your lucky and it arrives, bar nearly open, restraunt ok ish, bill at the end of a pre paid pre booked stay could have been interesting, ( price of rooms dependent on how busy the hotel is ) but argued the point and got it sorted, generally I think the hotel could have tried a bit harder,

Nice hotel. Good pool, sauna and steam room. Staff very nice. I had to switch rooms as the noise from the traffic in my original room was very disturbing. Staff moved me with no fuss. New room had just been refurbished so I think some work was left to do - mainly light bulbs not working. Also the fan in the bathroom didn't work. I'm sure this will be picked up and remedied however.

Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Dogs were welcomed.( we have two small dachshunds)My husband and I are disabled and need sticks to walk, and the hotel does not seem to cater specifically for Disabled .We had only asked for ground floor, so don't know if they do cater for disabled. No heating in or near bathrooom , and it was very cold.The entrance doors, were very difficult to use. staff brilliant. .

A bit expensive

Compared to other hotels this is a bit expensive. The furnitures of the room are very old. No lift service. Long passage through couple of doors to reach the room. The room was quite small for family with kids.

Overall good. Restaurant in the evening and breakfast very nice. Bar area pleasant. Rooms a bit tired. A few picky things - Hairdryer did not work, iron holder missing from wall, dusty on wendskirting and ceiling. A bit more care with cleaning and attention to detail would help.

We were down from Cheshire to pick up a car. Tired after a lot of driving, the hotel provided comfort and convenience. Attentive staff and clean comfortable room. Excellent breakfast and a welcoming breakfast team.

Unfortunately this hotel did not inspire. The rooms are not air-conditioned, although fans are supplied. Not allowed to open the windows fully, due to health and safety. The hot water failed on Sunday morning. The receptionist could confirm resolution, because unable to get hold of the manager or maintenance. No compensation offered, but others were. The internet failed too and the Sunday morning. The bar staff and the party staff were good. Overall disappointed.

Hotel in need of a refurbishment, trouser press fell to bits and washbasin was badly cracked. Bedroom window had dropped and required lifting to shut it. this may sound negative but the staff and food were every good but hampered by lack maintenance of the building.

Have stayed here several times, always found the staff friendly and helpful, the rooms good,although some could do with new windows. Breakfast pretty good as well. Its a handy place fro us as family near by.

I paid for this trip for son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. They live in Lancashire so we don't see a lot of them. They loved the swimming, and the breakfasts. We saw them every day and it was wonderful to have them so close. They will be very happy to stay again.

A tad pretentious - more concerned with coach tours than the business traveller

An average hotel in a good location; however, priority is given to coach tours, which limits availability in the dining room and causes delays in service. Breakfast was served on time and was hot, but the orange juice was of poor quality.

Wonderful staff who were always attentive throughout meals, check-in process and using the facilities. Great pool and sauna. Good breakfast and restaurant food was good. Well priced too. Rooms could do with a bit of an update but still very comfortable.
