If you’re looking for a luxury couples escape this resort isn’t likely going to tick too many boxes but if you’re looking for a great family resort then you should seriously consider it. We enjoyed a 3 night 4 day visit with our 2 grandchildren who are 7 & 10. The rooms were comfortable although the bathrooms were very tired, however we didn’t come for a luxury room/bathroom experience we came for fun family K’Gari getaway and that’s what we got. The breakfast buffet was good, the restaurant & bar options were sufficient & the pool areas were large & a lot of fun for kids. The staff were great & our overall experience was positive. TIP: The All Day Beauty Spots tour of K’Gari was fantastic!

The location of Kingfisher Bay Resort sells itself and should be visited regardless of reviews received. The rooms are clean, have everything you need, well serviced in a stunning wallum environment. However, having been here on 2 other occasions previously over the last 20 years, once for a month long stay early 2000's, I feel the initial and most important purpose of the site has largely been lost. You would be forgiven for not knowing or having difficulty to learn more about what makes K'gari a UNESCO World Heritage site since1992. I feel tourism has largely preceded education and information. For example, limited literature, short ranger lead sessions, no education hub without mention of its status. I was totally dissapointed to find very limited resources, books leaflets on common flora and fauna, or even island maps available for visitors anywhere in the resort but interpretive signage can be found on walls in some locations. Furthermore, an empty rangers office appears to sit idle, a far cry from its bustling past of excellent visual and extracurricular go-to for the more curious observer. In contrast, a beautiful K’gari World Heritage Discovery Centre ( a significant investment) opened in 2021 (to mark 30 years since World Heritage Status) unfortunately sits largely idle from the 3 occasions I visited on my recent stay. A beautiful offering, however this space is very sterile, unmanned, non engaging and could certainly use much more creativity considering K'gari's incredible environmental, geological, cultural and scientific history with it's remarkable examples. It's not surprising to observe a traffic meter to side on entry. I feel it could, if not already, become a white elephant. Some small town information centres across Australia are now an impressive example of what can be achieved to make these spaces incredible. For example, the recently launched (Sept 2024) Illumina light show, I witnessed from my hotel balcony each night, is approximately 30-40min , runs nightly at a cost of $50 Adults $20 Children. I'm sure the intent here is to tell stories of Kgari and it's history, and replicate the success of a similar offering at Uluru. However, I feel this investment like most, is for significant profit and not in reach for all visitors especially large families. The Illumina is all well to offer, however I feel a great interpretive, educational, interactive information centre is needed first. Consequently, the main reception staff are forced to wear several caps in their role answering questions on anything and everything. On several occasions I reached out, the staff member and a ranger was hamstrung unable to provide any information on flora or fauna, maps of K'gari. The ranger allowed me to have a quick look at an office book doing all she could. In closing I hope management of K'gari start to refocus, not only the activities that create revenue for the more fortunate, but indeed what makes the island a UNESCO World Heritage site in the first place in a more engaging creative way communicating a message and leaving a lasting impression with an equally World class centre worthy of, and with the Butchulla Country it sits.

Beautiful place, great facilities. 3 night stay included both Kingfisher Bay and K’gari Beach Resort, with a 2 day tour. Our tour guide, Andy was friendly and knew his stuff. The entire trip was well scheduled, comfortable and enjoyable. A 5 star experience all round.

Room met our expectations for a remote island accommodation. Don’t expect 5 stars, instead appreciate the high quality accommodation on an island. Balcony overlooking the lagoon with ducks and frogs was serene. Food menu was simple but tasty. Nachos were delicious. Breakfast had everything for everyone. Ranger was fantastic. Only regret was not having a four wheel drive with us. Will be back with a 4 wheel drive. Canoeing excursion was enjoyed by fussy 13 year old daughter.

The resort had everything we needed for a short stay. The villas were big enough but the cleanliness of them was a big let down. We had 4 villas in the resort and none of them were clean when we arrived. Cobwebs everywhere inside, ants in the kitchen that then got into our food, then having to throw food out. The little shop is great but doesn't restock much during peak periods like easter. The tracks to get to the resort are quite rough in peak periods with the huge amounts of traffic going there, so be prepared for a bumpy ride if coming from Rainbow Beach barge. I think I've been here once and wouldn't need to come back.
