Shortage of storage

We loved staying at the Novotel Han River, the staff were exceptional especially Mia at reception & Martin at concierge. The food was excellent, presented beautifully, compliments to the many chefs. The room was clean and although we chose a one bedroom suite with kitchen, so that we could have more room, it was small with a number of faults. To fit in the kitchen they have taken out the storage. Consequently the room wasn't any bigger than a normal room. There wasn't any drawers to unpack our case into, (plenty of room to put a chest of drawers in & the level of the safe in the wardrobe was too low for people of our age (in our seventies) having to get down on our knees each time we used it and there wasn't a full length mirror. I'm vain, as are many women and men so to check out my appearance wasn't possible. Sorry Novotel, we loved staying there, it was a great location but just not enough room for a 'Suite'.

So we booked this in Danang and as per the description on make my trip.com this was a one bedroom apartment with balcony and sitting room etc - turned out as just a studio with one bedroom (ok not the hotels fault but still worth mentioning) it had the tiniest kitchenette and bathroom infact the balcony was bigger than the bathroom ( we used the space to keep our luggage) this is a place only 1 person the beds were uncomfortable and two single beds were just put together and the pillows would fall into the gap between the bed and the wall - horrible little room - they even hounded us (4 calls and multiple meetings) for a tear in the curtain which was not done by us - and after explaining that we were not responsible for it they agreed (that was the only positive interaction at the hotel)- other than that nothing no welcome drink, robotic staff - when we asked for a turndown service we were told that this is the lowest category room and they don't offer the service for this category of room (I think they should mention exclusions on their websites and mention 'no turndown service' because that is the least we expected when we stay a Novotel regardless of room category) they should change their name to the Ibis or something - because nothing about the hotel was least bit premium - stingy hotel , a/c wouldn't work , leaking basin (which was fixed) and nonchalant staff. The pool was ok -the hotel is away from the beach - we went to the beach side and enquired there and there are some much better options at the same price and that too not lowest category rooms- I am talking rooms with balcony/sea view all be it not 'brands' that we may know off - but then again the Novotel brand in this case was pathetic to say the least - my recommendation is took look at more options near the beach.

The spa is beautifully designed and very clean, which I always appreciate. I booked a facial and a hot stone massage as a treat during my vacation. The facial was excellent – my skin felt smooth and hydrated afterward. The massage, however, could have been better. While the therapist was kind and professional, the pressure was too light, even after I asked for more. I didn’t want to complain too much, so I just let it be. That said, the staff overall was polite and the environment was peaceful. I also liked that they didn’t push too hard on upselling products. It wasn’t a perfect experience, but I’d be open to giving it another shot next time. Thank you to Anh for being so attentive and welcoming throughout my visit.
