The Higher Room restaurant is set high above the resort where you can feel the hug of the mountains. Indoor or al fresco dining as you sample international cuisine and fine old and new world wines.
Well spread out, very charming, far from the main town

Very large resort property, verdant, with water bodies all over. The rooms are spread out over a large area which offers excellent privacy. The resort is quite far from the town, a 30 minute drive and it may be difficult to get transport at odd hours, however the hotel offers shuttles to the main bazaar as also organises transport, not cheap, however good quality cars provided. We had one of the larger rooms with a huge bed, a sit out as also it’s with own jacuzzi (no hot water) and a huge bathroom. The other smaller rooms are also quite large. The restaurant The High offers breakfast with is quite ok, and options for veg. are limited as most options are with pork, beef. Service standards at the restaurant also need to improve, some of it may be due to language issues. Overall an very quite experience away from the hustle bustle of the town.
What a shame - a lot of hard work ahead!

We had an enjoyable Christmas stay but this resort is not functioning as a 5-star resort in my opinion, so please lower your expectations. Being 5 stars in name is meaningless – it has to be earnt. Understandably, following on from a worldwide pandemic you would expect hotels and resorts to look a little bit worn around the edges and this resort is no different. There needs to be some money spent on maintenance just to tidy the buildings and the grounds up to standard. The room was nice, but one of my pet hates is dark rooms and this was one of the darkest yet in all our Accor stays. I found it nearly impossible to shave with a lack of lighting and no shaving mirror. Housekeeping were excellent though. The pool area was poorly managed. It wasn’t ever swept down or tidied up during our 4-night stay. There was often straw wrappers or a child’s snack evident on the floor when we arrived at the pool each morning. Every time I swam to the end of the pool I looked down on the balcony below to see an ashtray full of cigarettes and a cocktail glass that sat there our entire 4-day stay. I picked up empty plastic glasses from the side of the pool while I was there so they didn’t end up in the pool and cleared away towels too. The staff were totally devoid of any interpersonal skills and had no interest in any of the guests. The food needs a lot of work. How can a five-star hotel serve frozen British style chips? At least serve well done French fries. The pool side menu needs looking at. We always ended up returning our glasses and plates to the bar as nobody was ever going to collect them. The breakfast buffet was a huge disappointment. How can a 5 start hotel serve processed hotdog sausages for breakfast in a region famous for sausages? There weren’t even enough items to make up a western style cooked breakfast. Split the area into western cooked breakfast, European continental and Asian and focus! (Real) sausages, bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, beans, hash browns and toast are the staples for a cooked breakfast. Who wants mashed potatoes on a morning? I have lived in Asia for 22 years and but still the selection on offer was bizarre at times. The coffee machine was a disaster area and there was only one machine for everybody. However, the biggest issue was the lack of space during the busy times. The hotel needs two breakfast areas not one. They were placing people outside the elevator on fold out tables most mornings. Every time we sat down it was to a sticky table that hadn’t been wiped down properly. One morning I grabbed a spray a cloth and wiped our table down myself. I am happy to say the egg station was well managed and they knew how to make a decent poached egg. The main restaurant was not much better. The western dishes weren’t good and unfortunately the Thai main dishes were so incredibly sweet. A good test of any hotel restaurant kitchen is a basic margarita pizza. The setting deserves a better standard of food. The pointless ‘library’ should be a cafe bar. A bakery and coffee shop during the day and a bar at night. The location is lovely and so are the grounds. The gym is basic but ticks all the boxes and the bikes that are available to hire are new and great to explore the area. We rode them up the hillside opposite the resort to the large white temple. The bikes will also get you to the local roast chicken restaurant at the other side of the river for a cold beer. Be careful if you don’t have Grab taxi or Bolt taxi apps as it is hard getting away from the resort. There is a shuttle bus from the resort to downtown Chiang Mai, but it is very infrequent. Kad Farang Village is a market, mall and restaurants and is not too far from the resort and it has an excellent Korean bbq so it’s a good option for evenings. Front desk will quote you a huge price for taxis so ask the guys at the security gate and they are sometimes able to get you a local taxi if you can’t get a Grab.

This hotel ruined my trip of Chiang Mai!

The hotel ruined my most important trip in 2023. Before checking in, I had emailed the hotel which said that I was coming for my honeymoon with my boyfriend, but the extent of the trip was unexpected. First of all, I am glad that as a platinum Accor member, the hotel can upgrade the room type, but in January, when the weather is only 15 degrees, the hotel does not provide hot water? At first, the hotel replied that we had to wait ten minutes for hot water, and then waited half an hour with no hot water. The hotel staff came to repair for another one hour, but still no hot water, finally the hotel said, we can go to another room to take a show first which have a long distance about 300m, and then come back to sleep. We have to walk this far to take a shower in 15 degree weather outside? The bathtub and other facilities were not good experienced at all. It was a terrible experience and the treatment of the hotel was not satisfactory at all. It was not recommended to stay in the hotel at all. It was very bad.

Finally I have time to write a review at Veranda Chiangmai. If you keen to stay with the hotel that can provide you with an excellence customer service. Veranda is the best place to stay. I will definitely will revisit veranda again when I travel to Chiangmai Spa at veranda is highly recommend ! If you want to experience relaxing massage, make sure you book it!! You will have a very nice nap :) I was stayed 5 nights with my parents and my in law. The room had some issue and the hotel staff especially Khun Fern/ Khun Poo and Khun Maui was assist us to get a new room. In addition, my parents were unwell. Khun Fern provided an excellent help to our parents and myself which I was so appreciative for her help. Feedback to the management. I would love to give a 5 star, but deduct point in term of facility a bit outdated and less choice of breakfast. I am a revisit guest in this hotel, it would be nice if the resort doing some renovations or keep maintain The food at the restaurant for dinner, they taste quite sweet. If you don’t like sweet taste, I would not recommend

Tranquil choice in the hills around Chiang Mai

Overall a really good experience. A great out of town location around Chiang Mai in the village of Hang Dong in the hills. There is a shuttle service to avoid being too isolated if without transport. Great concept using nature and outdoor space, and a zen feeling to the property. Good high quality food (breakfast and dinner) with a really interesting outdoor dining concept in the garden for dinner. The star of the show is almost the fabulous infinity pool, but in fact is the team. Overall the staff are superb, extremely professional, and special mention to Fern who went above and beyond to reunite me with my binoculars. The property needs maintenance however both in the rooms and public areas/ facilities and that’s why it’s not top marks. I’d be happy to stay there again.
