Great hotel, great location, a few issues

Back from 6 nights at the Sofitel downtown Dubai. The positives: * Spotless hotel, in great condition * Large spotless room that had a view (floor to ceiling) on the Burj Khalifa * Large bathroom with separate shower, toilets, bathtub * Plenty of drinking filtered water provided in the room each day (4 bottles) * Large swimming pool on top of adjacent car park (on 5th floor), with a view of downtown. Plenty of loungers and shadow. Half of the pool is heated * Hotel location: 2 min walk to the metro station (red line, that go to many places like the Marina, Museum of the Future or Airport) * 2 min walk to a covered air conditioned walkway that goes all the way to Dubai mall (15 min walk). Can also walk to the Dubai Mall/Burj Khalifa at street level in 15 min * The hotel steakhouse was very good and reasonably priced * Very polite and friendly staff * Short distance to the airport (20 min by taxi, maybe 40 min by metro) The negatives: * Swimming pool had limited hours because of Ramadan (closing at 5pm rather than 8pm). I would probably have booked elsewhere if I had known in advance, as it's nice to go for a swim after a long hot day of sightseeing * The breakfast room looks tired, dated furniture (quite different from the rest of the hotel), quite cramped/busy. Breakfast selection is quite good. Not sure why they fail to have enough cups for coffee/tea each day and have to use paper cups instead. Seats are too deep/not comfortable to have food * No dressing code enforced during breakfast. I saw some men wearing swimwear and sandals/t-shirts * Fairly low water pressure in the shower. Bathtub takes 15 min to fill * Room doesn't have much storage available. Most of my items stayed in the suitcase * Bed is not as soft as the standard Sofitel ones

Nice hotel & great service and staff, all of the house-keeping staff were stars and I was well looked-after by Sandeep (Reddy) and Saikirin. Service is truly excellent. However the gym is really disappointing and it was hard to train properly. Hardly any machines & 4 similar machines all just for legs. It was v odd. Pool is awesome however, great staff there again

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS—AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE!! My stay in January was nothing short of a nightmare. At 1 AM, I was abruptly woken up by deafening drilling—yes, actual maintenance work happening in a nearby room in the middle of the night. Shockingly, this wasn’t some mistake or emergency—it was authorised by management to take place between 1 AM and 6 AM. Let that sink in—this hotel thinks it’s acceptable to conduct loud, disruptive maintenance while paying guests are trying to sleep. I had no choice but to switch rooms in the middle of the night, and not once did anyone from the hotel bother to acknowledge the outrageous disruption they caused. No apology, no accountability—just complete indifference. The real kicker? After enduring this unacceptable experience, I have been fighting to get a refund for that night. The hotel initially confirmed they would process it, but now they are ignoring my emails entirely, clearly hoping I’ll just give up. This is deliberate, dishonest, and disgusting behavior. Why would any hotel think it’s okay to treat guests this way? Why would they allow major maintenance in the middle of the night? And why do they think they can just ignore customers when they owe them a refund? This place is an absolute disgrace. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away.
