I stayed here for 2 nights. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was good as was dinner. The hotel is also close to the waterfront and walkable to shops in Lugano. The staff was also very kind and attentive. I will definitely stay here again.

Used to be great

More than a dozen stays at Novotel Lugano, but more than 3 years after my last visit, my recent stay was the worst. Rooms are spacious and clean. Worst is mattress, it is now impossible to sleep without back pain. Used to be just fine. Breakfast used to be great, it is now subpar, even by Novotel standards. Orange juice is a shame (same with grapefruit) compared to the juices selection that used to be on offer. Hot drinks used to be made to order, now you have two extremely noisy coffee makers… Pastries selection is now maybe 20% of what it used to be. Too bad. Plus side, is the restaurant that is much better than it used to be, both for lunch and dinner. Cost cutting pushed too far. Won’t come back.

Nice hotel spoilt by terrible hospitality

I've had the good fortune to stay in many many Novotels around the world from Conference hotels to more character filled establishments . This is a nice hotel ...spoilt by the worst hospitality standard I've encountered in 40 years. Management hides behind the staff , sending them forward with ridiculous edicts. The staff are petrified and repeat ''But the manager says'' in response to any query . I spend a lot of nights in ALL hotels (Diamond status) and am pleased to say the nights before and after this stay in a Conference Hotel and an Airport Hotel demonstrated that hospitality is alive and well in the group and that its not the bricks and mortar alone that make for a decent stay .

Nice room 20 minutes from town walking

This hotel was booked through my group tour with Globus. I have no idea what the price would normally be. The location is okay. It’s about 5 minute walk to the water front and a 20 minute leisure walk to the center of town. It’s a really nice walk along the water, but might be tiresome if you have any mobility issues. The rooms were quite nice. I’m not sure if they have true queen or king beds, as I had two single beds pushed together and covered with a mattress topper. This was great except for the fact that the comforters were two twin size ones still. The bathroom was also one of the biggest ones we’ve had in Switzerland. The water pressure in the shower is a bit weak. The wall of the bathroom is glass, so if you’re sharing a room with someone in their inside, it does light up the room. There is no curtain because it’s the other side of the shower. Breakfast is okay, nothing special. Switzerland hotel breakfasts definitely cannot compare to the extensive and varied breakfasts at Asian hotels.

Location & Proximity: 5-10min walk to Paradiso train station. It is possible to reach the hotel with luggage on foot. From the train station, follow google maps but instead of going down the stairs, go down the slope from the carpark instead. Check-in: Check-in is strictly at 3pm, I arrived early from another hotel and had some drinks at the lobby bar and used the provided Wi-Fi. Service: Staff is friendly and speaks good English. Tip: It is recommended to learn some basic greetings and phrases in Italian, great to use within the Ticino region. Welcome amenity: Welcome drink for Accor Gold (wine, beer or soft drinks). A plate of welcome dessert nibbles and some chocolates in-room. Lobby: The lobby has an area to purchase snacks, drinks and ice cream from the reception (very convenient), it’s connected to the pool and hotel restaurant bar. Executive Ticino Room: Located on the top floor. Decor seems to be a bit different from the normal room hence tried it, there is not much view though (facing another building). There is a sofa with movable table, smart tv (looks more than 40 inches), work desk, Nespresso machine and fridge. Still water was replenished daily. Wi-Fi: Fast at lobby, however, signal is weak in-room. Bathroom: Modern bathroom with rain shower and bathtub. Toiletries: Shower cap. Ritual of Karma range soap, shampoo and conditioner, pretty good smelling. Breakfast: Great breakfast spread! There’s coffee, tea, juices, bread, cold cuts, cheese, hot food (scrambled eggs, rosti, sausages, bacon).
