The hotel is located in the city area. The hotel services are fine but the facilities are already old, some wear and tears around. The attitudes of all staff are good with smiles and helpful. It is still worthy to stay.

Priority Desk at lobby

Over the last few visits to Grand Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao, I found that the Priority Desk at lobby was unattended. Besides, the quality of breakfast went down since the foreign chef left (12 years ago ?). And we are asked to use straws (not spoons) to take yoghurt.

Service is bad. No bellboy to help on luggage. Receptionist is not friendly. Never greet and smile. The room is good and spacious. However, personally, I don't like the door to the toilet beside my bed. They should make the door opening at the entrance rather than directly beside the bed. The buffet breakfast and lunch is terrible. Food is cold and presentation is bad. Lack of varieties and serves same food daily. I don't feel like having my breakfast and lunch after having same cold food 2 consecutive days. I just took the soup noodles. Sometime, even the soup is not hot for the noodles.

The location was quiet while traffic can be manageable. Breakfast was up to standard but the coffee machine needed some more cups which disappeared during peak time at around 7:00-8:00 in the morning.

The service was good while the staffs were pleasant. The only complaint was the breakfast seemed to be less appealing because of smaller choice of varieties in comparison with my last stays. One example was not waffles.

Poor Internet Connection and Lack of Hot Water for Shower

The hotel is strategically located and is convenient for business. However, the internet connection is not reliable and I have to use my mobile data. Other than that, there was lack of hot water for shower. After an especially long lead time, I can only get at best not cold water in the shower. Never had a proper bath during my stay.

Everything is nice except restaurant which is expensive and without interest in comparison with restaurant around the hotel. Let’s notice that young people at the bar are not at the level we should expect in that environment (to slow, not speaking fluent english, laughing about customers...). People at the lobby desk are ok. The family suite was perfect.

The Hotel stay is relaxing. The Rooms are well equip and there is a wide variety of TV channels. The hotel can be easily access from the metro station within walking distance. The restaurant serve nice buffet lunch. The staff is very pleasant.

This is my go-to hotel for frequent business trips to Shanghai. It's centrally located in the Gubei/Hongqiao area of Shanghai. Just a short cab ride away from attractions like Jing'an district, Huaihai road, Xingandi without paying tourist hotel prices. Staff is warm, friendly and accommodating. I often have meetings in the lobby bar over tea and coffee.. the breakfast buffet is nice. There's also a washinging machine in every room so you can do some laundry on long biz trips. The rooms are clean and spacious and designed like mini apartments.

This is one of my favourite hotel in Shanghai and I stay here frequently. Clean & walking distance to many restaurants. Also not far from MTR station. So recommended either for business traveller or group of family.

I stay there every year, because the hotel is 4 km far from our fairground, so. Rooms are always clean, but this year was our room little bit wet, all our clothes was a bit wet, but I think it comes from outside, because the humidity was very high and hot in Shanghai. Breakfast was common as usually, but good. Silly that it is still same every year :-) What was good joke is Welcome drink ... non alcoholic beverages as water, tea, Cola ... more worse hotels spends a time and will make you nice mixed drink, why not, how much it cost them? Laundry is expensive, cheaper is buy new shirt and jeans on the street he he.

Worst Accor hotel

None of the staff could communicate in English. Communication was a great barrier. Was overcharged while checking out, tried to clarify with them but they on the pretext of not understanding English dismissed the claim. Rushing for train hence did not argue further. Back in my own country, sent emails with booking attached to clarify on the overcharged room. Received no reply despite using google translate to send it in Chinese. called the hotel, the manager Wilfred refused to come to the phone. Request for them to get in touch via wechat, no one came forward. called up to 5 times, and numerous emails sent. No reply.

The hotel was in a quiet vicinity Hongqiao, Shanghai while I needed to reach subway station of Line 2 on foot for around 10 minutes. It should be good exercise but not in the sun at 34 degrees centigrade. Room size was spacious and service was satisfactory as good as expected. Breakfasts were good in quality and the crowd were not many during my stay. One credit given to Housekeeping, I asked for change of shower curtain and it was done in a few hours, prompt response to customer's request.

Need Improvement on Water Pressure

The most important point to improve is the water pressure for hot water. I was assigned to a room at 27th floor where there was little hot water when have a shower. After complaint, a lady from house keeping showed me how to improve the pressure by turning on all taps in the room. After her departure, water pressure turn to low again. There was designated Accor Member counter in the lobby but it was unmanned. I suggest the management should man the counter or just abandon it.

Good hotel but can be better

Stayed 1 night for business and encountered 2 issues: 1. Ordered 1 item from Room service, 1 hour passed and nothing came, called back and got the answer from the same person who took my order "sorry, other person forgot it". Order cancelled. 2. Breakfast buffet on the 2nd floor restaurant: asked a simple question, staff struggled to answer in English, tossed the ball around to the manager who were able to provide it. Most staff serving speak almost no English at all.

We had a wonderful stay. It would have been very helpful if there were some English instructions re the wonderful mall two blocks down the road. It was fabulous, with great restaurants. After the first day everything was easy to follow!

Everything you need for an overnight in Shanghai before heading out into China - clean if unspectacular room, nice lounge downstairs for light dinner after international flight. Staff is very helpful. Neighborhood is classic Shanghai with tree-lined streets, plenty of boutique shopping in a mostly residential environment. 10 min walk from Metro station.

The hotel has a nice and convenient location but needs a bit of an update. Service is good, BF is very Chinese. Breakfast is chaotic and it is hard to get a clean table and plate. Staff is very service minded.

Need to improve Internet

We stayed at Hongqiao Grand Mercure for 5 nights, Executive Floor Suite with all the perks. However our bad internet connection made the stay difficult for us. Upon arrival, we have asked for help and staff tried to improve by adding a router, etc. and it took hours until we were told to change rooms, to a different floor. We moved to another floor, and the whole procedure started again, but in the end there was no improvement. We were not on Executive floor any more, hence losing part of the perks such as a good coffee machine... better amenities in the bathroom etc. We had already wasted half day so we gave up. We love the hotel, location, and bedding, The suite was very spacious and a good deal overall, but if you need good internet connection for business, I cannot recommend. I strongly recommend the management to take care of this situation. I had expected a better experience since we booked for the suite on Executive Floor which cost double the regular room.

Great location. Fair service. Poor maintenance.

The location is great. Surrounding area was decent; busy in the day and quiet at night. Staff was well mannered, upholds the brand reputation. However the room was a bit worn out. The toilet was the worse. Had the sewage smell, rust ... etc. The baby cot fell apart when I tried to move it. I only then realised the bed was only held together by a few loose bolts. Did not have proper sheets for the baby cot either. Single size bed sheet was folded and placed on top of the cot. It was not even tucked underneath the bedding. Did not dare to let my daughter sleep in the cot.
