The hotel is ideally situated walking distance into the centre. The facilities are great with a gym , pool sauna etc. The staff (Laura was amazing this stay) are helpful and always happy to help out with recommendations etc. A great place to stay in Cardiff

We came for the Spa Reviver package for my partners birthday. It felt like I'd paid a lot more than I actually did! The room was huge, the spa was lovely, staff were friendly, professional and accommodating and the leisure facilities were nice too. They even left a little sweet treat and happy birthday message in the room. The 3 course meal was good for what I paid (included in the package). We would definitely stay again. We felt really happy and relaxed after our visit 😊

Good service, outdated and old facilities

Great service, but the hotel needs major renovation! Broken lamps, very old furniture that looks like it’s dirty, all handles are wobbly, the curtains are not hanged properly on the rails and that look like hinged rugs

Standard hotel in Cardiff city centre. Typical Mercure hotel, older & worn facility, but quite ok for 1 night. The elevator was bad, each time almost 5-10 minutes Artezeit when driving down. Check in / out was more of a cold reception but ok. All in all it was okay.

We have stayed at Holland House several times and always enjoy it. The staff are consistently helpful and on this visit the staff at breakfast were particularly helpful and gave what felt like a personal service.

No Heating !

We were given a room with two small electric heaters that didn’t even heat the room. Had to move ourself to a new room with heating on the second night, as housekeeping had gone home. We were given a trolley to move our beddings from one room to the another ourselves.

Everything about my recent stay was great. Quick, efficient and friendly check-in, lovely complementary upgrade to a fantastic room on 15 floor, friendly staff in bar, plenty of Covid procedures in place. Can't fault it, best nights sleep I have had in a long time.

Didn’t get bottle of wine on arrival as requested and paid for so was not happy about that. Also luggage wasn’t taken to our room after we arrived at 3pm for check in. No room service also which I didn’t expect

Nothing special. Paid for car parking that wasn't reserved so wasted 40 min following incorrect directions to an ncp, room drab and cold as electric heater (!) Only came on when key card was in slot. Would have got as good or better from a more budget chain. Vomit in lift was a bonus.

Sorry for the confusion with the parking, Cardiff has challenges when it comes to parking as spaces are often in high demand and whilst we would lie to accommodate all our guests parking is on a first come first served basis. There have been some heating issues recently and we are currently improving the systems to give an enhanced guest experience. The vomit in the lift is very unfortunate but our team are on hand to deal with such situations, making sure spaces are cleaned and sterilised as soon as they are reported. Once again thank you for taking the time to write a review.

Paid for a suite as it was my wedding day the day before (as a treat) didn't get a suite, just a standard room with a shower room. It was clean and tidy though. Paid for the breakfast (×2) in the morning which was very poor quality to be honest. Mushrooms were partly raw and dried out, bacon was stiff and dry etc. It wasn't even on par with a local greasy spoon. Bar service was good and we were given 2 free beers as it was our wedding stay. The hotel does have disability access to the entrance but if I was in a wheelchair I would have struggled with the main doors on my own. All other areas level access that I used. Some improvements in cleaning/decor would be worth looking at as many communal areas have dirty marks or ripped wall paper. Although you don't see this in the rooms. I would stay here again but not at £208pn

An average hotel but really nice views

We stayed at this hotel for 1 night for a weekend getaway. The hotel is huge and it is nicely located close to the Cardiff centre. The hotel has a nicely decorated lobby and restaurant area. The hotel also offers a Spa which was a bit crowded but nice overall. The rooms are well equipped and meets the standards of a 4* hotel. However, the carpets, the furniture and the doors show the age of the hotel. I found the check-in hectic. There was a huge queue and it took 40 minutes solid to get to our room. The hotel staff offered coffee while waiting but this long wait if unacceptable. The hotel should hire more people and make use of Accor hotels online check-in system more effectively to speed up this process. The hotel staff were not well informed about Accor club procedures. The free drinks voucher was offered and when I asked the bar about this as advised by the reception, their attitude was as if I was begging for a free drink as an alcoholic. They upgraded our room due to the program without asking though. At check-out, I requested an invoice to summarise the costs and the receptionist said that it is looking too complicated for her to handle. She didn't provide the invoice and told that the hotel manager would give us a call. Nobody gave a call and I still don't know how the final cost is calculated. Overall, the staff needs more training and efficiency. The hotel needs a renovation. However, this is not to say we had a lovely view from our hotel room and enjoyed our stay. It was just the service was not seamless as you would expect from a 4* hotel. Otherwise, the stay was good.

OK rooms, dire service

on entering the 'reception' you will be greeted by a sea of bodies, each growing increasingly frustrated when they are told in a matter of fact way that your check in time is delayed. the room was OK, although the bathroom door was stuck and could only be opened or closed by a shoulder shove. despite 3 complaints about this, nothing happened. three broken fingernails later.... still nothing. Breakfast was adequate, think local pub style. If you have an emergency or problem with a room.... good luck. i called reception 17 times and not once was it picked up.

Unfortunately, we had a very eventful and stressful journey taking over 10.5 hours longer than anticipated. Upon our arrival, the staff could not do enough to ensure our check-in and stay was memorable, even upgrading us to a suite. The attention to detail and friendliness of every staff member was beyond expected and we will most definitely stay here again. They really value their customers and the team are a credit to the mercure group.

3 Night Stay

We stayed at the Mercure, Cardiff a few years ago & decided to revisit for a 3 night stay. We were disappointed with how ‘tired’ the hotel looked, not as we remembered it. Carpets worn in the hallways, paint scrapped or bubbled on doors, grout missing in the bathroom, toilet roll holder loose & toilet seat moved when sat on. Had to ask for more toilet rolls. When we arrived the safe was showing low battery, we called reception 4 times in a 15 minute time span with no answer. We called on our mobile from an outside line & it was answered within the 1st call, no apologies when told that we had tried on the internal line. Maintenance were prompt in changing the battery. Reception was hardly manned & apart from the lovely staff in the breakfast area, we would not have had any friendly contact with the staff. Reception was not welcoming when we arrived. Also had an email a few days before our stay, asking if we would like to have a room upgrade for a small charge & have bubbles in our room on arrival. As it was for a special occasion we decided to take the Mercure up on both offers & had a pop up saying that the staff would look into our requests.. Two days into our stay we received an email saying that this wasn’t possible! Why offer it if not available, they knew when we arriving & departing. Breakfast was good, plenty of choices & again the staff here were very friendly.

Lovely hotel, great beds.

Had a very enjoyable two night stay. We were lucky to get an upgrade to one of the penthouse rooms which was delightful, had fantastic views from the 15th floor. We ate dinner in the restaurant and breakfast, had excellent service with these, and the food was good. Staff are really efficient and pleasant. Some changes around breakfast service, due to Covid but all in keeping with the current pandemic and practical. Used the Spa facilities, good sized pool for a city hotel. Numbers in steam and sauna reduced, again due to covid, we understood this and were glad it was open for us to use. Hotel very close to city centre, which is great for shopping and site seeing. We did a walking tour with Fogo tours which was a great way to learn more about this lovely city. One negative, £16.00 parking per night charge is pretty steep but we paid for the convenience, at least it was easy to park.

The hotel is in an excellent location for all of Cardiff. The facilities are brilliant with gym, pool and spa all available to guests. The customer service is excellent with all staff so willing to make the stay as easy and welcoming as possible. (Sunjan was particularly helpful with any questions I had)

Stayed in the new privilege rooms and the decor is excellent with the bathrooms being extra special. All staff were all taking Covid safety steps and feel very well looked after by the team in Cardiff.

Attentiveness lacking during a difficult lockdown

I am a platinum card holder and I am very proud of staying in your Ibis in Elstree & Borehamwood with an incredible team who go out of there way every day to ensure you are safe and welcome. My father in law died in an accident and my husband had to stay in Cardiff to attend his funeral last Thursday. I wrote on the special instructions that this was a funeral. On arrival the un-attentive reception male was curt, uncaring and would not allow my husband to check-in without written proof of a funeral taking place. Nothing on your website said you needed this and I had no call to say we needed to bring documentation (although I had told you). We had to get the funeral directors to gain permission to send a letter. Room was 2 beds put together, lifts did not work and breakfast was fit for a child. Whilst these times are difficult, I do not understand after years of coming here that you have let your guard down and allowed complacency to creep in just as guests need your hospitality.

For the discounted price paid, this was very good. POSITIVES: Staff smartly dressed, helpful, right in the City Centre. Large room (had corner room), with good size comfy bed. New bathroom with bath and shower. Room very clean. Air Con worked well (heat and cold air). NEGATIVES: Busy underground car park, was full 1 night, although Manager resolved and made room (which was good service). If the hotel had been full, then would not have had parking, and area full of residents parking, or short stay spaces. Hotel room could do with modernising, old dark wood wardrobes etc, paint was new, but adding pictures on the wall would help. Chaning rooms & Pool: Good size pool, but no timers for anything, so with social distancing could not use everything. Changing rooms reasonably clean, but lockers needing new locks, as many did not work. Had asked for Ground Floor room, but got 8th floor! Overall, very good, as the price was reasonable, but had it been full price, then I'd not be giving such a good review. I think modernising the room and changing area would help a lot. Not sure if extra land for parking maybe too as parking is charged.
