Amiss with Sofitel Manila

I stayed for a night together with my family last Saturday at Sofitel Philippine Plaza. Upon entering the lobby, there are two things that got my attention, I miss the flower centerpiece and the staff manning it less a little less friendly. Long line greeted me at the check in counter. The key card tapper holder fell and I asked the bellboy to fix it but he just can't. No one came to fix it though. At the sunset bar a can of soda took 40 minutes and 5 follow ups to be served. At 8am the lines reach the lift area at the Spiral for the breakfast. There is something amiss with this stay. Hopefully today's Sofitel experience will be better.

I am utterly dismayed with the service I received form this hotel, which has a reputation as one of the classy 5 star hotels in the metro. There was no ALL check in priority and I had to wait a long time for check-in. Upon entering the room, there was no complementary snacks, letter and drink which was the custom/ practice in other ALL hotels. I also noted a foul stench coming from the ventilation which was addressed late already by the housekeeping staff. To ad don my disappointment, the room was also poorly lit and even the toilet was very dark. The check out was the last straw for me. I was not allowed for a late check out because the front desk said they were expecting a lot of guests which I understood. However, upon reaching the lobby, there were no incoming guests and there are only 2 staffs manning the 6/7 counters and handling us. I had to wait for a very long time before someone approached me to address my concern. This hotel is a major letdown and utterly a disappointment. I would suggest a revamp on hospitality 101 and perhaps have a reference in other ALL hotels on how guests should be treated.

Everything was great during our stay. All facilities are clean, including the pool. We booked 3 bedroom unit, they provided everything. Housekeeping is also fast if we have request even if it is indicated that housekeeping is not available during holidays before we checked in. They also allowed us to check in at 2pm, even if standard check in time is at 3pm. For the breakfast the buffet part is ok, except for the longganisa I ordered on our first day, it was a bit sour and feels like the meat used is already old or I think it is already old stock?? Other than that I liked everything else. Will come back for sure

Prior to the reservations I was asked for any events to be celebrated for notation. I mentioned about the Birthday and Anniversary celebrations. Upon arrival I was asked the same. I gave the same. Until we checked out at the hotel, nothing happened for the notation.

Being ALL diamond I stay 3 times in March in the hotel. It was very good stay in general : Good points : Very nice suites (we were upgraded) very good bed,bathroom faciliy, nice balcony with some breeze from the sea, good location beside Manila Bay, very nice pool and green area in the hotel not so commun in Manila Points to improve: Breakfast restaurant has very long Queue: One Sunday it extended up to the escalator. In the restaurant very long wait to have coffee, tea... not enough staff or not organized correctly. This is the main negative point. A Special Thanks to Emily who tries always her best to satisfy our need like sending an urgent mail with LBC; Business center is still closed, and lounge closed but special arrangement has been put in place at the bar during afternnon to have drinks and some Canapé and sweets. There is also a shuttle going to Mall of Asia very convenient.
