Located in the heart of Xi’an, the Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel is a beautifully restored landmark that first opened its doors in 1953. Today, it stands as a boutique luxury icon, seamlessly blending Chinese heritage with the timeless elegance of French hospitality. Operated under Accor’s prestigious Sofitel Legend brand, the hotel embodies everything the label represents: historic grandeur, bespoke service, and an intimate sense of place. With only 71 rooms and suites, each supported by dedicated butler service, the property offers an atmosphere of exclusivity and refined comfort. During my stay, I had the pleasure of residing in a Grand Prestige Suite, a generous 98‑square‑meter retreat featuring a separate living and dining room, a small kitchenette, a guest restroom, and a master bedroom with a walk‑in wardrobe and a spacious marble bathroom. The hotel had noted that I was traveling for my birthday and welcomed me with exceptional warmth: fresh flowers, a large birthday cake, a striking chocolate tower paired with fine liqueur, and perfectly ripe persimmons. It was a thoughtful gesture that immediately set the tone for a memorable stay. The suite itself was beautifully appointed, with a complimentary minibar, a Nespresso machine, and a guest bathroom for added convenience. Both the living room and bedroom were equipped with flat‑screen TVs, and the king‑size bed provided excellent comfort. Twice‑daily housekeeping ensured everything remained immaculate, while the butler service elevated the experience even further. Each day brought fresh fruits and sweet treats, and in the evenings, freshly prepared tea arrived with confections and stories — often accompanied by delightful surprises that highlighted the butler’s remarkable attention to detail.The marble bathroom was another highlight, featuring a rain shower, a bathtub with an integrated television, double washbasins, a Japanese toilet, and exclusive Maison Caulières toiletries. The walk‑in wardrobe connected directly to both the bedroom and bathroom, adding to the suite’s thoughtful layout and sense of spaciousness. Breakfast was served at Dolce Vita, the hotel’s in‑house restaurant, offering a generous buffet alongside à la carte dishes. The selection ranged from cold cuts, cheeses, smoked salmon, salads, juices, yogurts, and pastries to a variety of international and Asian hot dishes. Options like Eggs Benedict added a refined touch to the morning experience. The 1953 Lobby Lounge pays homage to the hotel’s origins as a state guesthouse, exuding the grandeur and elegance of its early years. Meanwhile, the Louis XIII Bar offered complimentary evening drinks and canapés during my stay, accompanied by the signature Sofitel candle‑light ceremony — a charming ritual that enhances the hotel’s sense of heritage. Its regular menu features rare Louis XIII Cognac, fine wines, and an extensive cocktail selection. For dining beyond the main building, Le Chinois serves authentic Chinese cuisine with refined regional specialties. The quality, freshness, and variety of the dishes were exceptional, and the service was equally impressive, making it a standout culinary experience with excellent value for money. The hotel’s indoor pool provides a serene escape, complete with loungers for relaxation, while the fitness center offers state‑of‑the‑art equipment suitable for both energizing workouts and restorative sessions.The Sofitel Legend People’s Grand Hotel distinguishes itself through its boutique charm, personalized butler service, refined cuisine, and exceptional hospitality. It is a property that not only honors its historic legacy but elevates it with contemporary luxury — arguably making it the finest hotel in Xi’an.

As per the name suggested, the building of Sofitel Legend Peoples Grand Hotel is stunning. But service on the whole failed to make a legend. We, a group of 11 friends, stayed in the Sofitel Legend for 4 nights, from 29 Oct to 2 Nov. Upon our arrival, we were received warmly by their Chief Concierge, who's been very helpful with providing tips for us to go around and taking notice on our comments. Rooms were big and comfortable, with all the standard fixtures of a 5-star luxury hotel. A full buffet breakfast was inclusive and this was the part which we experienced the worst service during our stay at Sofitel Legend. Most of the waiting staff appeared nervous and clueless about their duties. They could not understand English well, and sometimes even communicating in Putonghua was a bit difficult too. Our coffee/tea orders were mixed up on all 4 days of our breakfast. The staff had difficulties in understanding the different forms of coffee, like Americano and Cappuccino; staff couldn't understand why milk was asked to be served on the side with the english breakfast tea; dirty plates piling up on our table but the staff had no intention to clear them away. The egg station was under so much pressure during peak hour that the food orders were all confused and served very very slow. We also attended the complimentary happy hour held at the bar on the executive floor. The choice of drinks was limited, and when we asked for some lemon slices to go with the soda water, we were told that lemon was not available. Nonetheless, we had great companies among our group of friends and we had a relaxing time there. We were also intrigued by the number of non-hotel guests wandering around the hotel with filming crews taking portraits. A rare view indeed for a luxury 5-star hotel.

Good location, great staff

Great staff. Friendly, helpful. Good English. Special mention to Andy on Reception, Eva on the Concierge Desk and Anna in the restaurant. The very grand-looking (if a bit Soviet in style) hotel is set back from the road and is pretty quiet. Walkable easily to the Eastern entrance to the wall and to the centre of Xian. Our room had all the usual facilities, maybe a bit light on wardrobe space. It was quiet. The furnishings were a bit fancy for our tastes but that’s subjective. The only slight negative is that the ground floor of the hotel was fairly chilly, so choose where you sit in the restaurant, ideally away from the windows! Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, regularly replenished, and an egg station.

Best hotel in xian . Service is good with best price and best service. Breakfast with full of healthy food and fresh juice with good ingredients . Room very clean immaculate. Location is not the best but you can always get didi around

Authentic Italian Restaurant

Great food and service in a very convenient environment. I came to this restaurant multiple times, it was always very good. In my home country, I live with Italian people, so I have high expecations and high standards towards italian food. This place is clearly a top restaurant.
