Kindness beyond today's norm

The overall stay was great, including the food, service and room cleanliness, but this review is mainly a shoutout to one person in particular. while on the 5 hours drive home, I got a call from Nicole Roach from the hotel, advising me that I'd left my wallet in the room, and that she would post it personally on her way home from work in order for me to have it in time for a work trip to the US later in the week. Nicole then called me the next day to confirm she'd sent it and that she wanted to share the tracking details with me. It's not often that one experiences this level of kindness, which is a reflection on Nicole, but also of the Novotel she represents. Thanks again Nicole!

This is not a 4 star hotel!!

This hotel is in need of thorough cleaning and upgrades. The rooms are not in good shape..wallpaper is peeling, there are stains on she baseboards, there are gaps in the flooring, etc…Definitely not what you would expect from a 4 star hotel so not sure who gave this rating!! I would probably rate this a 2 star. On top of this, there have been car thefts in this parking lots and when asked about it, the front desk told us that our make of car is not often stolen which still didn’t leave us feeling assured. They offered a boot for our car which we used. But there is no extra security or patrols at night to prevent car thefts which is appalling. Definitely don’t recommend this hotel. Go elsewhere!!

The positives: The rooms were big and comfortable. The cost was reasonable. The food in the attached restaurant was surprisingly good, and not as expensive as I would have expected from a hotel restaurant. The negatives: The rooms definitely need renovation. Mine had stains on the wallpaper, spots where it was peeling, an unfilled hole where clearly an old thermostat used to be, little things like that. My bathroom sink didn't give me hot water (they did replace it but didn't test properly so the new one was too big and the cold water barely worked). I also had some very strange billing issues. I was responsible for reserving rooms for a small group, and while I knew they were going to charge the first night, they actually charged the first two nights (which I did not consent to), and when we had to reassign who in the party paid for what (reservation held with my card but everyone was expected to pay their own rooms), it left the hotel needing to refund me more than $2,000, which took them more than a week because of a very strange refund policy (apparently they can only refund $1000 per day hotel wide? I have never heard of this policy and other Novotels that have needed to refund erroneous charges did so way more promptly and without this limit). Do not ask them to reserve taxis for you. The taxi company they work with was HORRIBLE. One of them, the driver got pulled over by the cops and tried to get my colleagues to tell the police that he wasn't a taxi driver and they were all friends. Another driver we got was also the dispatcher and spent the time driving aggressively while taking calls and then phoning drivers to dispatch them. I don't know Montreal taxi companies, but just call one yourself or use Uber; don't ask the receptionist to book one for you. Location is not fantastic. Cost $40.00 to get to the airport despite being an airport hotel (no shuttle). Only amenity within walking distance was a Tim Horton's. A Wendy's, Starbucks, and gas station were a bit further but the direct path had no sidewalks. OVERALL: A perfectly adequate hotel. But it isn't near anything and I for one had major issues with both billing and taxis. I love a Novotel but this one was just okay.

Disappointed.

We have stayed at this hotel many times in the past few years. The main reason is the accessibility rooms. As usual after booking a room , we contacted the hotel to confirm it would be fully accessible. As usual, the day before arrival, we called the hotel to confirm our fully accessible room and were told it was taken care of. So imagine our surprise arriving after 10 at night to find no such room waiting for us. The woman at the desk knew nothing of our request and didn’t even know which rooms were accessible. She gave us a room for that night that my wheelchair could go through. But there were no safety features in the bathroom whatsoever. We spoke to the manager the next day and he told us he had assigned us the correct room and it was later changed - really. He also gave us a free breakfast - wow. We were moved to the correct room the next day, but still unacceptable on many levels. Will we stay here on our next visit, probably not.

This hotel is exactly what you would expect from a property located near the airport, servicing the surrounding business parks. There's nothing within walking distance for guests, so you are limited to the hotel restaurant for food, unless you order from a delivery service. The front desk staff were great and helpful. Housekeeping are very nice but don't speak French or English. Brush up on your Spanish if you want to chat with the people cleaning.
