Having to visit Canberra on a regular basis becomes almost routine but we always look forward to our stay at the Mecure. The staff are fantastic, Chris, Lyn, Caitlin, Dyshna (the Indian lass who runs the bar) are all excellent, just to name a few. We always ask for a room away from families with children after several unfortunate sleepless nights so it’s all good now. We would highly recommend the Mecure.

Incompetence at every point

Staff were polite but totally incompetent. Our booking was messed up in every way possible. Wrong bedding configuration. Package included breakfast but no record of this. Rang reception and was given details of the restaurant opening time etc for dinner - but they didn’t mention the restaurant was closed for Covid and the food was served in the bar, which is absolutely putrid. Buffet breakfast had to be served by the staff due to Covid - the 2 staff working were fantastic but they needed another 3-4 staff to service the queues in a timely manner. The list went on. The room was nice but the experience was a disappointment.

The property is very tired and in need of refurbishment. The staff were not knowledgeable about the area and/or about the historical sites to visit. When asked if there were any places to dine in the area apart from the Mercure bistro and restaurant I was told no and yet I was only three to four blocks from Canberra Central. Bistro and restaurant have absolutely no atmosphere. Bathroom needed better cleaning and furniture and fittings old and tired looking. Certainly not a four star property and very overpriced for what you get.

A 4 day break in Canberra

We stayed at the Mercure Canberra for 4 days with our dog! We were surprised to find the hotel is dog-friendly and we and the dog were made to feel very welcome. During our stay we saw other guests with dogs too. The major asset of the property is the staff who were unfailingly friendly, courteous and helpful -- take a bow Lukas!! The building dates back to 1921 and a different era. It is still a lovely old building but is badly in need of a freshen up. That said, the garden courtyard is a nice oasis away from traffic. Maybe the hotel could make more of the terrace. Our room had it's own little back yard where our little dog could stretch her legs and I would encourage the hotel to ask guests to pick up after their animals and have a way of disposing of the bags. Altogether a very pleasant stay made so much better by having our little dog with us rather than in a kennel!

Quiet,easy access,comfy beds

Quiet area and good location with easy access to the city. The room is big and furnished with all our needs. The bed is very comfortable and better than most other hotels I have ever been stayed. The food is not as good as we expected.

We were very satisfied with our stay which was booked well in advance. Although we would have preferred a room in the newer downstairs section we had plenty of room and were comfortable and with good assistance with our luggage there were no problems. The meal arrangements for us and our guests on one occasion were excellent. In particular the early morning breakfast in our room organised the night before and delivered by Oala (not sure if that is her right name)was most welcome and enabled us to get to the early morning start of the RAAF Event. Thank you to all staff.

Central Location to major attractions in Canberra

An old “Victorian - English “ style but is neat and clean. It has all the 4 star amenities including free wifi. Ample parking at the back. Our room size has plenty of room to move around even with the King double bed and the standard bedside tables, desk, cupboards. Bed is comfortable but I should have brought our pillows. Their pillows are too soft and low even though there are four to choose from. Hospitality staff are friendly, meals are reasonably priced but can’t go wrong with their nightly specials. All the major attractions and CBD are within walking distance eg about 15 minutes to War Memorial, about 30 minutes to Parliament House via Lake Burly Griffin. We only use our car to drive to Chinatown at Dickson and to Mount Ainsile Lookout over our 3 days and 4 nights stay. I fully recommend this Mercure Canberra for its location, the old style “English “ courtyard, friendly staff.

Weekend away

From the moment you walk in the front door your greeted with a smile, all the staff are super friendly and always there to help. The room ( Loft apartment) was very clean and very spacious, the shower was hot and strong.:)

Very Pet Friendly

This is the go to pet friendly accommodation in Canberra for us. Its an easy walk to shopping precincts and close to local interest locations. Our dog has access to most parts of the venue and its own run area outside our room. Most importantly the reception staff are very welcoming and helpful from the initial booking to our check out.

Another great getaway at Mecure Canberra

Whenever we get to Canberra, we make sure we stay at Mecure Canberra. From the moment we arrive at reception the ambience and vibrancy of the staff overwhelm us. The rooms are spacious, some may say they are outdated, but I love the old style layout of the hotel. The restaurant and bar offer a great variety of food and liquid refreshments, parking is no problem either,,, looking forward to returning

Excellent stay great position very cosy good size rooms comfortable close to all amenities well managed staff very attentive . Close to main thoroughfare put not enough to worry sleep .Older style property some small maintenance issues . Overall a good experience and value would highly recommend.

Old World Charm

This place is magnificent with its old world charm,beautifully maintained gardens provide a special atmosphere experience when staying there,it is also the quietest place to sleep,outside noise was non existent , the spacious rooms provided were extremely comfortable The receptionist at the front desk was fantastic, she was very welcoming friendly and informative .

Disappointing - Hotel is tired and dishevelled

Not our first stay at the hotel and it is need of a make over. The restaurant was shut for dinner and has been for 12 mths. The lounge area looked like a store room - tables and chairs were grouped together as if not being used. Definitely not COVID safe. We were told at receprion we had an upgrade when in fact it was the room I had booked. We did receive a bottle of wine as it was a special ocasion but it was left outside the room with the glasses onthe floor where anyone could have touched the glasses. We definitely didn't use them. The room was clean and tidy but sterile.The outdoor furniture is needs replacing as falling apart and was scattered. The hotel fllors looked like they needed a good sweep and clean. The staff were friendly, I will think twicw before booking again.

Not the best experience this time

We stayed for 4 nights recently and several events highlighted some deficiencies in communication between reception and housekeeping. Because we were arriving late at night and would have a sleeping child to carry to the room, I called before-hand to ensure that the roll away bed would be ready when we arrived. Unfortunately, this was not done and we were left 1 bed short as we carried our 5 year old in. The staff were very apologetic and brought the bed promptly. On another occasion, we requested some additional toilet paper (as we had opted for no housekeeping that day) and it took 3 phonecalls to reception before it arrived. Food and beverage team were lovely and room service was great. It was a comfortable stay in the end, but customer service and internal communication weren't great this time. Pillows are also very uncomfortable. Would be great to have more suportive pillows.

On arrival I was meet by a very friendly lady who quickly processed the reservation I had made. I was give excellent instructions on how to get to my room from the car park and asked if I wanted to make a reservation for dinner. I had a meal in the pub that is apart of the hotel. The room allocated to me was spacious, clean and well equiped and met all of my needs. On checkout another lady assisted me and was extremely helpful. I have stayed at this hotel for work a number of times and the service and quality of the rooms is exactly what I wanted.

Fantastic people, central position, great room, clean and comfortable. We were in Canberra to visit relatives and selected the Canberra Mercure; it was a very good decision, as it provided us a very comfortable home away from home with all the benefits of Accor Plus Le-Club

I am a Sydney based consultant and have stayed at Mercure Canberra (AKA Olims) over the course of the last two years, at one stage travelling to CBR every other week for (I think) about 9 months. I can't speak highly enough about the friendly staff and the service they provide. The support they have provided in looking after me has actually resulted in successful business outcomes. Thoroughly recommend this hotel for anyone travelling to CBR for business or pleasure. It is in a great spot as well, 10 min from the airport and walking distance to CBD.

As usual, very comfortable

We have stayed at this establishment many times and again found it very comfortable. Rooms are large and have all that is needed. Our room overlooked the beautiful garden and courtyard. And it was mist pleasant to sit on the balcony and enjoy the late afternoon. Reception staff were efficient and willing. Breakfast in the hotel restaurant is a little less impressive, however.

Everything that could go wrong went wrong

The staff were fantastic but the on the first day there was no hot water for an hour or so and the fridge didn't keep anything cold. The freezer compartment was useless and our food was defrosted within one night, not to mention it had a horrible odour that we had get some bi-carb soda to get rid of the smell. On day two the fire alarm was set off (there was no fire) and 15 minutes later, just as we were falling asleep again the PA system came to life with an apology and woke us up again. On day three a burst water main up the road meant no water for a couple of hours. It was a disappointing stay (although kudos to the staff from doing there best) and we used one of our free nights on the stay - extremely disappointing.
