With the price and expectation of 3 stars Hotel, I find this hotel is good in many reasons; clean room, nice & warm blanket, hot breakfast with croissant and good service for early check-in. The room is pretty small for 2 persons. It is convenient near to TGV train station, restaurants and cafes.

We (family with 2 kids) arrived Gare de lyon 10:0pm, the hotel is located just 3mins walking from Hall 1. Receptionist is great, quick check in and gave us a lots of useful information. Room is clean, breakfast is really good. However the room is quite small, especially if you have more luggages. General is great for us. I highly recommended for other people.

Worst booking experience: No function to edit guest names and inexperienced reservation staff member with bad attitude

I have made a reservation via Accor website, for 4 adults for 2 nights. I would like to add the name of other guests to my booking for visa application purpose. This is a requirement for visa application. However, the booking for Mercure does not allow you to edit or add the guests, while bookings for ibis (via the Accor website) do. I emailed the hotel to add the name of the guests, but they failed to do so on the first attempt. I needed to make an international call to tell them to put all the guest's name. The reservation lady had a bad attitude, refusing to admit that she made mistakes. She insisted she had added the name. I had to forward the new reservations to prove to her that no names have been added. She even tried to tell me to cancel the reservation and claimed that she had checked that I could cancel without any cancellation fee while I actually booked for a non-refundable due to the cheapest price. I did not believe this and did not want to risk paying for a full amount of cancellation fee, so I told her as a staff member to add the guest names on the original booking and made it clear that I did not want to cancel or make a new reservation. I sent an email to recap our conversation through phone to her again that I need the guests' names to show up on the booking. Several hours later, I finally received reservations with all of the guests' names on. However, she simply told me that the rate had changed and I needed to pay an additional amount during check in. This is ridiculous and does not make any sense. Thus, I wrote an email to her to ask why I have to pay extra since this is the same booking. I also called the same number and discussed this issue with another staff member (a male staff member) and he agreed I should not pay any extra amount. He then passed the line too her. I repeated to her the same thing that this was the same booking, I just wanted to add other guests' names. Finally, at 11 p.m. Bangkok time, after a few email correspondents and 2 international call, I got a new confirmation with all the guest names and thank god with no extra fee. A day later I received an apology. Too many confusions and many headaches, just for adding the guest names. For other sites, guests can edit by themselves. p.s. There was no option to add the name of the guests at the beginning of the booking.

Dear Nayalce, After reading your email, then reading your two reviews on TripAdvisor and then your review on Google I took some time to investigate and exchange with our Booking Staff members. I personnally talked with the operator you talked to in order to understand the details of the situation. She confirmed me that in the end, the problem was resolved as you got the proof of booking with the three names and you were not charged any extra money. I am relieved the problem has been fixed. We sincerely appologize for all the inconvenience about this situation and for the worries it caused you. However, there was problably a misunderstanding regarding all this situation. When you first asked our collaborator to add the names (or edit the booking), she did on our booking software, as she told you. The change had been made on our spoftware, but it is true, as you mentioned it did not appear on your confirmation mail. That is why she asked you to send to her your email, as on the software the change had been done and was showing. After that, she suggested to you to cancel the booking and make a new one. She made a mistake thinking your booking price was flexible. She does appologize for this suggestion mistake. In the end, she found a solution in order to make all the names to appear without any extra money charged. She then, appologize by mail. Once again, we appologize, as you are right, the processus of booking you went through was not appropriate. We are sorry for the inconvient you went through. Nonetheless, I don't find very fair, to us and all our collaborators who work very hard everyday to write three reviews on different platforms complaining about the same problem. It penalizes all our collaborators even before you have experienced the full service of our establishment. I have seen that you are coming soon. The hotel is directly connected to the massive Gare de Lyon Station. For this reason, it is extremely convenient. The reception staff is absolutely wonderful, knowledgeable and professional. We arrived a bit early, around noon and while check in was at 14h00, they assigned us a room right away. Much appreciated! We spent two nights at this property and the convenience to the station, the area around and central Paris in general could not be better. The main drawback to the hotel is the size of the rooms: They are tiny!!! There were two of us with minimal luggage and we struggle to move around comfortably. We have stayed in many different brands in Paris, some higher end, some lower end, and this room is by far the smallest ever. We loved the staff, the room was super clean, the reception, restaurant and café were all perfect, but would not stay here again due to the size of the rooms. If traveling solo and needing easy access to Gare de Lyon, this is the place to book! More than one person, consider other options.

Never booking with Mercure/Accor again

Be careful when booking with this hotel because it is totally inflexible when it comes to cancellations beyond your control. I made a reservation through Accor (which the Mercure is part of/owned by) but could no longer travel to Lyon because of a massive SNCF strike. The hotel was totally lacking in understanding and tried to gaslight me by saying it is because I booked the hotel "through an online agency" (like Priceline or when it was directly through its parent company. I never got my money back, so others may want to think twice before making a reservation here.
