As others have said, dirty rooms, stained carpet, outdated furnishings. More like a one star motel and in desperate need of a refurbishment. Our room was ready when we arrived at around 5pm. Location decent but has nothing else going for it. Go elsewhere if you want a nice hotel.

For NZ$439 per night and a 5 * Hotel - I expected more! It was terrible. Check in was delayed. Room was neat, bathroom was dated and cruddy - needed a good clean. View onto a building site was yuk. The milk in the fridge was off - so no coffee in the morning. Location was good - but definitely recommend going elsewhere for better, cheaper, newer experience. Waste of money.

From the start to end terrible service. Upon check in were given a room that was dirty stains on floor n bathroom n toilet was not cleaned. We had to change room upon complain. Called 5 times to get someone to come make the sofa bed which was done at 10.30pm finally. By this time the child was already asleep. Next day asked for room to be serviced before left hotel. Came back 2pm was not done, we asked again they said definitely will be done in 30 mins. We left room and went out till 5.30pm. Came back , the room was still not done, We had to wait in lobby while they did it after 5.30pm. Complained was told oh we so busy. Not my problem, I paid so much money to have the services of a hotel. Not a 3rd class motel service. Seriously I would have been better to stay in a motel then this hotel. Worst customer service ever. Not staying here ever again. Left a bitter stay about Rotorua for us. Highly recommending people to NOT stay here.

Arrived at 5pm for check-in and room wasn't ready. Our Lakeview room didn't have any lake views which was disappointing as it cost extra. Otherwise room was nice, staff were friendly and on-site bar had live music. Had no hand soap in the room and had to be chased up with staff. Location is great near park and lakeside with good access to restaurants and city sites.

Unpleasant waiting times

we booked a night at Novotel Rotorua. Staff were excellent however, when we checked in at 2.08pm - we were told a 30 min wait for our and given drink vouchers. After 45 mins however, we still were waiting for our room. After 1.15 waiting, I approached the desk again and asked if our room was ready. No it wasn’t -told a 10 min wait again. Meanwhile a bus load of people arrived and were given their room keys right in front of us. After 1 hour and 45 mins passed our check in time - we were given our key. It was hot and the kids just wanted to swim. Totally unacceptable to wait this long for our room which was booked in advance and we have paid for the room to be available since 2pm. Wasn’t impressed at all and given no reason other than it wasn’t cleaned. This was a Monday check in time. Not a busy weekend. Just not up to service.
