The Mercure is not the issue. Unfortunately trip advisor provided no contactable number and no accessible email. There were unpredictable floods which were out of my control and could not drive on the road to get to the hotel. Unfortunately I did not pay the extra money for a refund if necessary and lost the full payment for what would have been hopefully a nicer experience staying in the more expensive villa amongst a poor experience. So anyway, dear trip advisor, a contactable number with a human on the other end of the line would have been nice.

A must stay when in Townsville !

What a fantastic stay we have had at the Mercure Townsville. Make no mistake the executive level are taking this already great Mercure to the next level with state of the art resort facilities including a plethora of event and conference space, refurbished rooms, on site Celsius restaurant with a devine selection of entrees, mains and deserts. The grounds are impeccably maintained with some rooms overlooking the lake from a spacious balcony with chairs and tables, often missing. The Mercure resort has a pool and spa space wrapping around the main bar and restaurant space adding to a wonderful oasis feel while you dine or indeed indulge in a spa and dip in the pool or a ice cold beverage from the very nearby well stocked bar. Room was extremely spacious, impeccably clean, modernised, comfortable beds, large tv and large bathroom and most importantly an amazing air con! Probably the biggest asset of the Mercure is the amazing Staff! A massive thank you to Alley in reception for your very kind and understanding support for our disaster work. Having the comfort of the Mercure after our field work was heaven sent and we appreciate so much that we had somewhere to rejuvenate when so many didn’t. Shout also to Hailey, and Ria-Jai. It would be remiss of me to not mention the most amazing F&B staff who feel now more like family then hosts and servers. This includes the most lovely fellow Aquarian Bobbi followed by Harrison, Abbey, Faith, Valentina, Daniella, Belan. Shout out to Yvonne from housekeeping and a special shout out to Matteo ciao! Thank you for the awesome breakfasts and lastly a huge thank you to Benny the Masterchef for putting together an amazing spread for dinner including one of the best cooked rib eye fillet I have ever had. The food here at the Mercure really has to be experienced and I can’t rate the Mercure highly enough if staying anywhere in the area. Close to the airport and city centre with lots of on site facilities to enjoy. The Mercure is really transitioning into modern guest focused accommodation and all at a great price point. I was particularly impressed with the recognition of all tiers of the Accor loyality program. Comp parking, tennis courts, pool spa food wow you will not even want to leave! Thank you team Mercure and all the staff I didn’t get a chance to meet. Can’t wait to return under better circumstances. Dean from Melbourne.

Doors didn't lock properly making it not safe at all

Doors dont Lock properly making it unsafe considering the crime in the area cockroaches and spiders were found in the rooms at night. Sent a email after the stay and got no response. Staff were friendly and helpful.

A couple of years ago I posted a review stating some issues with this hotel. I will not mention those here as they have mostly been rectified, and I'm posting this follow up review as I believe in fairness and giving credit where it's deserved. There's little more I appreciate in a hotel than a manager who is open enough to take on feedback and make improvements. So big shout out to the GM who has done just that. So! Things I love... - Accor members always treated well: As a Gold member I'm often overlooked at Accor hotels, as my status is still considered to be on the lower end of the scale. At Mercure Townsville I have always received a welcome gift, a warm friendly greeting at reception and have more often than not been accommodated for early check-in and late check-out. - Comfy rooms: For the most part I have found the rooms very comfortable. The beds are always great, excellent selection of pillows from small to large, soft to firm, and the air conditioning is almost always frosty. - Beautiful pool: This is a big one for me. It's a weird trend in North Queensland, a pool is of course a must in this warm climate, but it's funny it can be 40 degrees outside and the pools in a lot of hotels still somehow manage to be too cold to enjoy them! Mercure's pool gets it just right I think. It's not hot, but it's just heated enough that you can comfortably slip in on a hot day. Also appreciate the shade umbrellas that have been put up around the pool. A shade cloth would be great even just over half the pool, but it's not a dealbreaker as it is. - Great food: While not an extensive menu there does appear to be something for just about everybody. I have dined both in the restaurant and ordering room service and have 9 times out of 10 been very satisfied with the quality of the food. Standout for me is the pork cutlet with mash, absolutely delicious! - Location: As somebody who doesn't drive, I always look to base myself centrally enough within walking distance of amenities. While it is a little out of the way (for non-drivers), and will require either a bus ride to nearby Castletown, or a direct Uber ride to get to, once you're there you're very centrally located. As mentioned, Castletown Shopping Centre is about a 5 to 10 minute walk away, and you've also got a complex just next door that offers various fast food options as well as a Night Owl convenience store. So the location is honestly the best you're gonna get in Townsville if you're without a vehicle. - 24 hour front desk: This is such a win for the hotel. Would you believe that there are only maybe 2 or 3 hotels in Townsville now that actually have a 24 hour desk? And 2 of those are insanely priced. As a seasoned traveller, this is such an important factor to me. There's nothing worse than getting stuck in a situation that would require calling reception, only to realise it's after hours. After one too many instances of this, I only stay at hotels with 24 hour reception nowadays. So I appreciate this immensely and hope that this is something Mercure Townsville will always offer. - The setting: Honestly? It's easily the most beautiful accommodation in Townsville, and I mean that genuinely. The gardens are beautifully kept, the lake is serine (most rooms you'll be able to see the lake otherwise you can always go for a walk around it), and there's an abundance of tropical wildlife, keep an eye out for the cute little possums! Now here's where I think there is still room for improvement... - Breakfast buffet: While I do love it and I do note that it pretty much already caters to everybody, it could do with a few more choices for people with alternative diets. I'll throw in some suggestions here, chicken sausages would be an excellent addition. I dislike starting my day with red meat, and I've noticed the sausages on offer are always beef snags. Vegetable dim sums are something a lot of Accor hotels are offering, these are easy to steam in large batches and that easily caters for vege/vegan guests. Some more cold selections would be awesome. I do note the welcome addition of coconut yoghurt (yum!), but some more toppings to go with it would be great, berry compote is an easy addition here, but I've noticed it's only occasionally offered. Other than that though, breakfast is great! - Some air conditioning issues: It does need to be noted that some of the rooms do struggle to cool effectively, and there have been the odd cases where air conditioners have outright failed. I do acknowledge that this would be a massive outright cost to fully replace all these units, but equally it must be acknowledged that air conditioning in North Queensland is of absolutely vital importance. Do note though, the hotel does always make every effort to relocate guests should the aircons fail. Perhaps keeping some pedestal or desktop fans on hand to put in the rooms would be a good bet for those super hot days when aircons are struggling to cool the rooms completely. - Noise issues: Now I do want to start off by saying I do understand that this is a function hotel, so noise is to be expected. However, the distinction I want to point out here is that there is a difference between volume levels, and bass levels. The bass levels were my issue on a recent stay. I have history in audio engineering, so to me the solution to keeping both the guests of the hotel and the function guests happy, is just turn down the BASS setting on the sound system. In most cases, volume can be kept quite high without carrying and reverberating through most surfaces. Bass however is very different, it carries far and it pierces through walls etc. So this issue can absolutely be rectified by simply placing restrictions on these functions on how high they can have the bass levels. In my experience, the bass does NOT need to be high in order for the sound to be satisfactory. In fact when I was playing gigs, I didn't use a sub woofer at all, and never had any complaints about the sound. So just something to take note of here for the hotel. Bass can be incredibly disruptive to people who have booked into the hotel with the intention of getting a good nights sleep, and if I were not a regular that's probably something that would make me not consider coming back. That's really the only issues I have, and I hope I haven't emphasised those too hard as I certainly do not mean to. They are minor issues at what is otherwise a fabulous hotel in a great location, in a beautiful setting in the heart of North Queensland. I do want to once again extend big props to the general manager who has made every effort to make this hotel the best that it can possibly be. Big thanks from this Accor member. TL;DR: The Mercure Townsville stands out as one of my favorite places to stay. From excellent treatment of Accor members to comfy rooms, a perfectly heated pool, delicious food, and a beautiful tropical setting, it ticks so many boxes. There are still minor areas for improvement, but overall, it’s a fantastic hotel that’s clearly committed to providing a top-notch experience, and I’m grateful for their efforts.

Over the past 2 years we have made many significant changes as you have pointed out but realise there are still many more things that need to be done. In 2025 we have a number of projects that will be undertaken including the continuation of our refurbishment program. new furniture for the restaurant and some changes to our buffet and bar area in particular. Without a doubt, I will choose this hotel again for my future visits, as it left a lasting impression on me.
