Mercure Budapest Castle Hill 4 sterren

Front desk staff is really nice and friendly. They helped me a lot. Breakfast is good with a lot of options. Rooms are clean and cozy. Facilities very well maintained. Location is also good, 10 minutes walk from castle.

Outdated hotel with extremely low service level. Expect to be told off at Front Desk if you request your room to be cleaned before evening even if you have been out all day with the “service my room hanger” on the door. The hotel is noisy in between rooms and from corridors.

Het hotel ligt dicht aan metro met gemakkelijke verbinding naar centrum, het hotel is echter zo groot , dat het fabriekachtig aan voelt ,. Ontbijt is ok , koffie niet goed , alleen in de bar wel in orde. Kameronderhoud wordt in de weekend onvoldoende uitgevoerd.

On arrival the reception area was extremely busy with a bus load of Asian tourists. Luckily the wait to check in was not as long as expected, but getting to my room using the elevator proved a challenge, as the many tourists were also all going up. Elevator rides remained a challenge throughout the stay. On the plus side the room was very nice, quiet and with a good view :) Breakfast was a terrible experience! As it turned out there must have been several bus loads of tourists staying at the hotel (it is by the way a joint Mercure****/Ibis***) and they all seemed to be having breakfast at the same time as me. Obviously, that meant that the breakfast area, which is largely a just great big hall, was overcrowded, and the two available coffee machines had lines of 10+ people consistently, and the food buffet had many empty trays. The first morning I waited in line for my turn at the coffee machine, but the quality of the coffee was definitely not worth the wait (I normally have a double espresso in the morning), the second morning I skipped coffee at the hotel. Not sure I will book this hotel again next time.
