The common areas of the hotel are great! Newly renovated with a relaxing vibe. But the rooms are terrible for the price you pay. Rundown hallways, and badly maintained guest rooms bring the place down a lot! Definitely not worth the $400+ rooms rate per night. Feels like Novotel knows there is no competition in Wollongong and haven’t bothered to even try and update the rooms.

Lovely Location but beware of events

Nice hotel in a very lovely location. The beach and surrounds is definitely a draw card for this hotel. I had a great check in (Platinum Accor member), couldn't use the car park as it has varying height from 1.6-2m (my car needs 1.95 and above) but the gentleman on reception told us we could just use the disabled parking area just outside reception- as we were only there for 2 nights it wasn't an issue however if you were staying a week, it could have well been problematic. The room itself we lovely, clean and well presented with a beautiful view of the ocean. Beds so comfortable and the bathroom nice and spacious. We enjoyed the pool area - the water was freezing, even for January. The North bar is such a nice setting with good cocktails / food - we ate there both nights, as the other restaurant Pepe's doesn't offer Accor dining discounts and Palisade is a bit too upmarket to eat with 2 young children. One MAJOR issue I had though - which would possibly prevent me from staying again was a conference they were holding for Zoetis Animal Company - they appeared to have a 3 day meet and on the last night held an event in the ballroom.... usually wouldn't be a problem for in house guests EXCEPT the hotel allowed them to have a DJ kick off in the North bar at 9pm on a Wednesday night (the North bar is directly below all of the ocean facing rooms) - this went on until early hours of the morning, which I'm sure the whole of the hotel could hear. When you're expecting to wake at 5.30am for an 8hr drive home, being woken by super loud doof music and drunks screaming, walking up & down hallways carrying on was not ideal. If the DJ had of been placed in the ballroom - I'm sure the noise would not have been such an issue. Very poor form on the Hotel's part though and the reason it only gets 3 stars from me.

Not worth it

After paying 5 star rates the hotel is 3 star at best. They have a monopoly on the area so they can charge whatever they want. We have stayed at this hotel once a year for the last 4 years and it keeps on getting worse. The hotel rooms are deteriorating fast with broken curtains and old furniture, the bathroom and kitchen supplies are absent you have to ask for each item which can take 30mins to come up and you feel like a pain. The worst of all they do not replenish the complimentary bottles of water and when we asked for some they charged us $5 each. Surely when paying thousand plus a night for a room they can supply the basics.

Meh… Adjust your expectations for price

This hotel is average at best but for the price I would have expected better. A few things: 1. No valet - for $700 a night I don’t want to park my car. Instead after unloading with kids in tow I’m navigating a very tricky car park. 2. Lack of staff - reception was a ghost town. I waited to check in listening to multiple phones ring out. Check out was efficient but clearly understaffed. 3. Room - did all families get put in the same section of the hotel? It sounds like it! We were kept awake with the stomping of children above and screaming next door. The light in the hallway was so bright not even a towel under the door make a difference. A man came into the hallway singing at 11 pm. Doors slamming…. I wanted to complain but didn’t have the energy. There was clearly room to spread people out but all patrons were packed to the elevator end of the hall. 4. Cleanliness - rooms were clean but things were a bit grimy in parts. Our table outside was dirty and the couch was a tad stained. 5. Accor members- I really didn’t feel like there was any special treatment for being an Accor member. Guy at bar didn’t tell me I could get a discount and told me not to charge room. Only found out I’d be eligible for a discount when I got back to my room and read this small piece of paper I got at check in that I was supposed to read… this is a symptom of a lack of staffing. Everyone seemed to busy to assist. All in all it was pretty meh. Writing this review at 4.30 am after being woken by noise and light under door though so maybe our experience will improve with breakfast…

Comfortable Stay with a Few Drawbacks

The Novotel offers a great location, close to the beach and fantastic restaurants. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the building was clean and well-maintained. However, I was disappointed that the parking fee was not included, and the mattress was much softer than I prefer, which impacted my sleep quality. Overall, a good experience with minor areas for improvement.
