We stayed in a number of motels whilst travelling Italy and the Mercure Bologna Centro was one of the best. Across the road from the central railway station and a short walk to the shopping district you could pick a better location. The motel staff were extremely welcoming and enormously helpful when providing directions around the City. The Cafe, Bar and Restaurant provided excellent food with a really good wine list. The had two dinners in the restaurant while we were there which demonstrates how good the service and food was. Our room (thank you for the upgrade) overlooked the garden which gave you the feeling that you were in a rural setting and not in the middle of the city. It would be wonderful in the spring and summer period. All I can say is thank you to the staff for making it such a wonderful stay.

Loved location and renewed room. Courtyard room was very lovely since i could avoid noise. Loved check-in, check-out and breakfast. Breakfast area and courtyard really gaves me peace.

We stayed here for one night this weekend, and we had a really enjoyable stay. From arrival, we were checked in by a friendly English female receptionist, who went out of her way to ensure we were comfortable, from ensuring we had a room on a higher floor, to also helping us with parking - walking with us outside in the cold to direct us to different car parks and even ringing the parking companies first to find out the prices (we didn't use the hotel car park - more on this below). Our room was spotlessly clean in all areas, was a comfortable temperature and was quiet. We were on the 6th floor and overlooking a park area which may have helped. The bed was firm but comfortable, whilst the housekeeping kindly swapped pillows for us as we are allergic to feathers. We slept well and didn't have any noise disturbances at all - I am a light sleeper so this was my concern considering other reviews. Bathroom was compact but clean, with a shower that had a strong water pressure. We were very comfortable in our room, and every staff member that we spoke to was friendly, polite and really tried their best to ensure we were happy. The area can feel a bit intimidating as it is busy and there are homeless people, but as two women, we didn't feel unsafe, it was a 15 minute walk to the centre. I would 100% recommend this hotel to others, as we felt anxious about our stay due to other negative reviews, but everything was exceptionally clean, comfortable and we felt happy. The only thing I would mention, is the parking underneath the hotel. It is not Mercure's and is run by unfriendly parking agents who are rude and arrogant. You have to leave your car keys with them so they can move your car around, whilst we also saw them hit another car whilst doing so. We asked for 15 minutes to check with reception regarding our room and also parking, and returned to our car clamped and them shouting in our face. We went to another parking called Star which was a 5 minute walk, kept our keys, large spaces and they were much friendlier, for the same price. This isn't Mercure's fault, and when we informed them of this, they were so apologetic.

Theft at the front desk

When I checked in to this hotel, my luggage at the front desk was stolen. The number and quality of the front desk staff is insufficient, and I strongly request that they improve this. I reported this to the police together with the staff, but I have not yet received any compensation from the hotel for the stolen items.
