Awesome view of the old port. I wish I had gotten the name of the afternoon concierge. She was so helpful--took me outside and physically showed me the market. I'm not a complete idiot but I'm not from here and don't understand much French. So thanks--very helpful! Anyway we sat on the terrace and watched a sunset over Marseille with cheese and wine--just like Pytheas did a few years ago. Daily fish market on the square downstairs. Fishmongers and artists and a beautiful guitar player too. Voila. Easy to walk around the old port. They were remodeling so the bar and restaurant weren't open but it was off season.

Their hospitality standards are extremely low. Staff is not very friendly but they are not set up for success either. Rooms that open to the open space of the inside have frosted glass and are quite dark and depressing to stay in. I asked for my room to be changed and face the outside, which they accommodated after a one night. It was an improvement but the rooms are still in very poor conditions. Curtains and quite old and full of stains. Disgusting to touch. The rooms have air conditioning but none work. With now window screen, it was not possible to leave the windows open for fresh air as the streets are full of rats roaming around. So the rooms were quite stuffy and hard to sleep in. The closet was a very old and antique closet with a strong offensive odor. I could not hang my business suits inside of it as I didn’t want to have my clothes to pick up the smell. Bathrooms were in very poor condition as well. The tub was filthy (see pictures). Just terrible. With such poor conditions, the front staff should be complemented for interacting with unhappy guests. Must not be easy. I highly discourage staying there and will not stay there again myself.

Beware if arriving by car

Beware if you arrive by car. We could not drive up to the hotel as the main entrance is in a pedestrian zone. We had to park in a taxi rank, much to the annoyance of some. No help with cases. Which one might expect from a hotel in this price bracket. We asked where we could park, and after some confusion we’re assigned a contracting decorator to show us the way, we thought to a car park linked to the hotel. An hour later and after a grand tour of the city, but not to any car park, we were back at the taxi rank. Second time we used SatNav to find a public car park a few block away. Reception staff were entirely unapologetic. the hotel could not otherwise be faulted, but this arrival experience quite spoiled our stay.

We would like to clarify that, while access to the hotel by car is indeed restricted due to local traffic regulations, our team went out of their way to assist you by having one of our staff members accompany you in your car to help guide you to the nearest parking. This "contracting decorator" is actually part of our technical team, he is half deaf and did his best to support you. Indeed no one was available from the reception at that time, however we made everything possible to respond positively at your demand : to come with you, in your car, and bring you to the nearest parking. What we made even if we don’t have any valet service. We are also quite surprised by your comments regarding the reception staff, as they are frequently praised by our guests for their professionalism and friendliness. Rest assured, we take this feedback seriously and will review it internally. Finally, while we strive to offer the best possible service to our guests, we unfortunately have no control over the traffic conditions in Marseille or the location of public parking facilities. Classic hotel in the heart of Vieux Port with great views

A charming hotel with a classic feel right in the heart of Vieux Port (entrance up a side street and left). Staff professional and helpful. Lovely 2nd floor bar with stunning views and a nice spot to take respite from the heat and bustle. Lovely bar staff as well. Room was well appointed, clean and with charming decor, and a nice sized bathroom. Bed was really comfortable and slept like a log!. Very quiet so good soundproofing. I didn't take breakfast here but it offered plenty of choice hot and cold. Location is so good at Vieux Port and right across from the boats to catch for the islands and Chateux d'lf. Handy to pop in and out throughout the day and you can leave your luggage with ease on your last day if you want to wander about before you go. Metro right across the road (handy for the station as just two stops away). Bus right across the road, the number 83 for up the coast that runs regularly. The Panier to your right to wander and explore with bars, restaurants and the route to Notre Dame to your left. Behind are shops and more bars /restaurants and if you go left and up a street leads up to a district called Le Cours Julien which is a lively artistic district full of nice bars, restaurants and vintage shops.

Brilliant staff and divine breakfast

The highlights were 1. the hotel receptionist who was helpful and shared a personal restaurant recommendation which was perfect (we returned to the same restaurant on consecutive evenings as it was so good). 2. the breakfast. The quality of the food and choices was fantastic. A real honeycomb, exquisite yoghurts in pots, selection of nuts, fruits and seeds, different types of butter in individual paper wraps. If you appreciate food, you may like this. 3. the view from the first floor bar and breakfast room. Our room was super sized for our needs and had a bathroom designed for guests with limited mobility. The room didn’t have a view but that was fine. It was quiet and the bed was enormous - almost a double, double bed size. The location is perfect.
