Perfect Choice on the Vieux Port

This hotel has three things to recommend it. The location at the base of the Vieux Port, looking down the length of this amazing harbor to the fortifications at its entrance and in the midst of the vibrant pedestrian area that has been created there, is perfect. The breakfast is wonderful, and the room doubles as a bar in the afternoon and evening, offering views on the port and teaming city life. Finally, the staff are great, most especially the excellent Adele, who manages reception; she is so friendly and helpful, this feels like a boutique hotel, rather than a chain property.

Solid Gold Location. Unbelievable.

Historic hotel with a view directly across the old port. Our room with a small balcony on the fifth floor had this amazing view. Despite the area being very busy and loud the double glazed doors did a good job of keeping the noise down. Even if you do not have your own room with a view you can enjoy the view from the bar area/breakfast room. Truely worth it. The room was a duplex with a small downstairs living area that can have two single beds. It also has a seperate toilet. The upstairs bedroom and bathroom have a steep set of stairs so not for anyone with mobility issues. It is an Historic hotel which comes with its own quirks. Creaky lift etc. The room decor is looking a bit sad and could use some updating. Bathrooms are clean, spacious and with good towels and amenities. Breakfast was very good in selection and quality. Although this is an MGallery it is rated as a four star not a five star. Staff are not just courteous but extremely helpful and kind. The place is by no means cheap, in fact the rack rates being quoted at the time of our stay were eye watering. It is all about the location which is unbeatable.

Awesome view of the old port. I wish I had gotten the name of the afternoon concierge. She was so helpful--took me outside and physically showed me the market. I'm not a complete idiot but I'm not from here and don't understand much French. So thanks--very helpful! Anyway we sat on the terrace and watched a sunset over Marseille with cheese and wine--just like Pytheas did a few years ago. Daily fish market on the square downstairs. Fishmongers and artists and a beautiful guitar player too. Voila. Easy to walk around the old port. They were remodeling so the bar and restaurant weren't open but it was off season.

Their hospitality standards are extremely low. Staff is not very friendly but they are not set up for success either. Rooms that open to the open space of the inside have frosted glass and are quite dark and depressing to stay in. I asked for my room to be changed and face the outside, which they accommodated after a one night. It was an improvement but the rooms are still in very poor conditions. Curtains and quite old and full of stains. Disgusting to touch. The rooms have air conditioning but none work. With now window screen, it was not possible to leave the windows open for fresh air as the streets are full of rats roaming around. So the rooms were quite stuffy and hard to sleep in. The closet was a very old and antique closet with a strong offensive odor. I could not hang my business suits inside of it as I didn’t want to have my clothes to pick up the smell. Bathrooms were in very poor condition as well. The tub was filthy (see pictures). Just terrible. With such poor conditions, the front staff should be complemented for interacting with unhappy guests. Must not be easy. I highly discourage staying there and will not stay there again myself.

Beware if arriving by car

Beware if you arrive by car. We could not drive up to the hotel as the main entrance is in a pedestrian zone. We had to park in a taxi rank, much to the annoyance of some. No help with cases. Which one might expect from a hotel in this price bracket. We asked where we could park, and after some confusion we’re assigned a contracting decorator to show us the way, we thought to a car park linked to the hotel. An hour later and after a grand tour of the city, but not to any car park, we were back at the taxi rank. Second time we used SatNav to find a public car park a few block away. Reception staff were entirely unapologetic. the hotel could not otherwise be faulted, but this arrival experience quite spoiled our stay.

We would like to clarify that, while access to the hotel by car is indeed restricted due to local traffic regulations, our team went out of their way to assist you by having one of our staff members accompany you in your car to help guide you to the nearest parking. This "contracting decorator" is actually part of our technical team, he is half deaf and did his best to support you. Indeed no one was available from the reception at that time, however we made everything possible to respond positively at your demand : to come with you, in your car, and bring you to the nearest parking. What we made even if we don’t have any valet service. We are also quite surprised by your comments regarding the reception staff, as they are frequently praised by our guests for their professionalism and friendliness. Rest assured, we take this feedback seriously and will review it internally. Finally, while we strive to offer the best possible service to our guests, we unfortunately have no control over the traffic conditions in Marseille or the location of public parking facilities.
