Receptionists were very helpful. The lobby/bar area is lovely. The room was a little dated but I think this about most Mercure hotels I've been to. The room was perfectly functional. Bed was comfy and the pillows were just wonderful - I like really big ones that I can mould. We had the breakfast and were there about 9am. Never saw anyone cooking the hot food and sometimes there didn't seem to much there. However, there was plenty of bread, cheese, ham, salad, fruits, pastries, crepes. Really enjoyed my breakfasts. Close to Colbert Metro, which is handy if you bus it in from the airport, as it is just 1 stop from the bus station at Gare St Charles. Handily located for the port and tourist areas and close to transport links for the rest of the city. Overall a good value hotel. Never had issues or felt unsafe and we were out at night. The only thing that bugged me through my whole stay in Marseille was dog fouling. People don't seem to clean up after their dogs and specifically seem the use the area around trees that have been planted to make the street attractive. This was the only spoiler. If I came to Marseille again, I would happily stay at this hotel again.

I came for a business trip so generally not too fussed but it says 4 stars and it really is not it’s more like 3… You can see some renovations made in the room such as sink and shower in the bathroom and some minor upgrades in the bedroom. You can hear the neighbours walls are thin and can hear the toilet flush from next door or above. Hotel lobby looks ok with a small renovated bar. Breakfast room is ok with plenty of choices for breakfast. Hotel location is 5 minute walk to the port however at night if you are a female travelling alone be very vigilant, it’s quite sketchy with homeless around the corner of hotel and some questionable people around. Generally not really happy with this hotel and will not be staying here again.

Hotel in a great location to explore the old town and the harbor on foot. The entrance to the hotel garage is a bit tricky to get to, as it is separated within a large underground garage. According to the hotel, the vehicle should not be higher than 1.80m. We had a lovely room on the 10th floor with a great view of Notre Dame de la Garde. The breakfast on the 2nd floor was delicious and well stocked.

The hotel reception staff were lovely on arrival offering to store our bags until the room was ready. Throughout our stay they answered questions and were helpful. The bar was popular with fellow rugby fans and we enjoyed watching some of the matches on the big screen. Pizza and pasta was available sometimes and came quickly when we could order it. Our room was comfortable and we had a nice view which is always appreciated. The air conditioning worked but was not very powerful. The shower was good. Breakfast was great with lots of choice to suit most tastes. The scrambled eggs were perfect. The lifts got busy at times so perhaps signposting the stairs would help at peak times. Google maps sent us along back streets a few times when trying to find the hotel. Once we had our bearings it was easy to stay on wide and clean routes to go to the vieux port area or to Noailles to jump on the metro. Perhaps the hotel could add details of a walking route from the nearby stations using the main roads to help future visitors. Overall we had a good trip to Marseille and felt very secure in this hotel.

Some good, some not so good

Location wise the hotel is just two or three minutes walk from the Colbert Metro Station or maybe 14 minutes walk from the main St Charles railway station. It is also only about five to seven minutes walk from the main tourist area down by the port. Obviously not the fault of the hotel but the street it is on it heavy with graffiti, there was smell of urine and hobos sleeping nearby. That might sound nasty, but it's just a fact. Check-in was simple and quick and the lobby is OK if you like looking at a piano covered in faux graffiti. All rather tacky and blingy looking. Bedroom was OK if you like decor in purple and vinyl light blue covered chairs in your room. No proper desk for computer use although you can use a small table and stool. Wifi connection was good. Air-conditioning worked. Bathroom acceptable although the 'open' toilet brush holder could surely be improved upon. Hairdryer provided but you can't use it in the bathroom as there is no plug point for a hair dryer. It can however be used in the hallway. Carpet was dirty. I thought at first it was maybe just our room but upon stepping out into the corridor there was dirt and dust everywhere, especially along the sides by the skirting boards. The cleaners main corridor door was often left open letting guests see inside the cleaners store room area. Breakfast was good. In fact, most of it was better than good. Comprehensive selection of breads and croissants/pastries, cheeses, hams, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, coffee machines and scrambled egg. The fallafel was also a great thing which I hadn't expected. Not so good were the burnt sausages and the very fatty/oily streaky bacon each morning. But overall, a good variety and enjoyable. Would we return? Probably not. The hotel really needs to do something to clean the carpets in the corridors properly and to get new toilet brush holders in the rooms. Very off-putting.
