Needs renovation and definitely not a 4 star hotel

Definitely not a 4 star, maximum 2.5. The whole building is run down and needs renovation. The bathtub is high and hard to get in and out, our sink was clogged and AC is noisy. There is no iron in the rooms, no coffee machine (just instant coffee) and we only had water in the first day. They say rooms are all non smoking but they smell otherwise. Restaurant closes earlier than advertised in google so beware. Again, far away from being a 4 star hotel.

This hotel is not a four-star hotel as advertised—at best, it’s a 2.5 or 3-star. The building is old, likely from the 1970s or earlier. The staff is good, but there’s no proper lounge. No coffee maker in the room, only instant coffee. Bottled water was provided only on the first day. The bathtubs are high and difficult to step into. The rooms were non-smoking but had a smoky smell.

Ate at the Novotel restaurant one night, directly across from the Ibis. Restaurant and bar was serviced by one waitress, needless to say, service was terrible. The pork 'cheeks' (as per menu) were good, but my veal steak was tough, ordered the veal precisely because it's not supposed to be tough. Meal was to come with fries and a vegetable. Fries were Novotel's version of potato chips and did not get my vegetable until after finishing my veal and chips. Saw the assistant manager walking around told him what I thought of the service/food and he said they only had one server, exactly the problem, perhaps instead of walking around with his hands in his pocket he should have pitched in serving customers. Extremely poor customer service.

Forever grateful for the amazing stay @ Novotel Porto Gaia Portugal, congratulations are in order to Mr Pedro (Novotel General Manager) and his entire team! They are all amazing! Professional, courteous but above all incredible human beings! Not just a memorable stay, having a disability and severe health issues, all of them, went above and beyond to take very good care of me. Thank you ever so much, forever grateful! This hotels food is very expensive and some of the staff are very rude, I will not be coming here again. The pool was cloudy and ground floor rooms are noisy and outdated .Guests are constantly being told of for eating or drinking water not purchased at extortionate rates from the hotel
