Checked into an occupied room

We checked in to the Novotel Bayeau on 30/4 and proceeded to our rooms. Two rooms to which we were allocated were already occupied. Our room had a lady taking a rest who was clearly surprised and alarmed by our entrance. When I returned to the main desk there was a perfunctory sorry without any charm. This raises considerable concern in my mind on respect of security and safety plus a lack of training of Reception staff. I won’t be staying there again.

Disappointed with service

I recently stayed at the Novotel Bayeux for 3 nights with my husband and 17 year old son. I booked a Classic Family Room with a large bed and sofa bed for my son. At check-in the front desk clerk advised me that I had not purchased breakfast and informed me it would be 20 euro a person per day. This was incorrect as I had purchased the breakfast opion in advance. Upon check-in we were given room keys to a room that was already occupied by someone. I scanned the card, the door opened and I walked in to find a man in the room. Needless to say, I was horrified and I'm sure he was horrified as well. By the time I got back to the front desk, it was clear that the man in the room I had just entered had called the reception and informed them of the issue as the staff was already busy creating cards for the new room. There was no apology offered. I was given the room keys for the new room and proceeded to the new room. It was not prepared for a family of three. There were not enough towels, no bedding for the sofa bed nor enough of "complimentary beverages" for all of us. In addition, the hair dryer was broken. My son slept on the sofa (not the bed part) the first night because no bedding. While staff were quick to provide extra towels, a working hairdryer and bedding when asked, in my opinion you should not have to ask. Also there was nothing offered for the inconvenience caused by the hotel's clear screw up in booking us into the same room as another person.

Should be rebranded Oldotel, not Novotel

This hotel is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. Rooms are old and worn out. It’s more like an old hôtel ibis, Accor seems to be on the way down! For 200€ you will find much better options in the area. I guess Accor do not really care about the quality when the location brings enough business… If you have no choice than go there ask the rooms on the second floor, they are slightly better than the 1st floor.

Good choice of hotels for sightseeing.

The Novotel in Bayeux is a good basic hotel. The location is easy to get to and a great base from which to head out and explore. There is more than ample free parking. The rooms are well appointed for the price. There is a nice and clean little swimming pool in the back, and a surprising amount of lawn. Very relaxing. The high point of our stay was definitely the staff. All were friendly, courteous, and very professional. The manager was very responsive when my wife brought up a minor issue. The breakfast is very good, and we were surprised that we didn't have to pay for our 14 year old son. About the only downsides we encountered were the somewhat careworn look of the hotel, and the limited dinner menu. These are minor issues though. Overall I would recommend this hotel and I would certainly return.

Good, as usual, but with some shortcomings

This hotel is well placed and has the facilities which you expect of a Novotel. But we have never stayed in a Novotel which did not have a mini-fridge in the room. This was disappointing. It is not just a matter of convenience. Many people want or need to store small dairy items and, more importantly, medicines. It is not sufficient to be told, as we were, that items could be stored by reception. This is no good during the night. I was also surprised that a hotel which, because of its location, must have a large number of English-speaking visitors, has no English language tv channel available, not even a news channel. These aspects of your service need to be addressed.
