A difficult stay at the hotel

Tripadvisor 评级 2.0/5

I spent the night of 20th July 2024 at the hotel while traveling through Paris for the first time. I am a female judge of Asian origin and was a solo traveler on a private trip. The charge for one night was almost US$150.00. I obviously didn't have a French electricity converter for the wall socket and had to buy one from the reception for US$10.00 to charge my phone. The breakfast was extremely basic and in fact, there wasn't anything proper to eat except the few pieces of fruits. The rooms didn't have any bottled water and when I asked about it the receptionist informed guests have to buy it. So I had to buy several bottled water during the day. The room didn't have any tea or coffee stuff either. There were tea and coffee stuff on the ground floor lobby and every time I wanted a cup of tea or coffee I had to go down to get it. They removed it at night and put it back in the morning. There were no assistants to help the guests to take the luggage upstairs and I had to pull them along all by myself when I was both checking in and checking out. None of the receptionists ever answered the intercom though they claimed that there wasn't anything wrong with it, so every time I wanted to ask something from the reception I had to go down in the lift and ask it in person. The room was very hot and the AC didn't seem to be working at all. They first claimed that it should be working well but then accepted that it wasn't working and as it was about 7.00 pm, said that the AC technician had left for the day and I'd have to wait until the next morning to have it checked. They also refused to change the room saying that the hotel was full as it was Olympic time. They told me to sleep with the window open if the room was too hot, which was strange advise given that it was a reputed hotel in the heart of Paris. The receptionist lady who was on duty at the time also gave me the little pedestal fan she was keeping near her so I carried it to my room. I then realized the front cover of the fan was missing and the blades were open and it seemed quite dangerous to have it switched on in the room. So I didn't use it that night but slept with the window open for ventilation. There was a male receptionist on the 21st July morning, a slim, fair, tall Frenchman with a lean face. I was to go to the airport by the shuttle that morning for a fee of US$5.00. When I aked him in English about the arrival time of the shuttle he looked quite annoyed and replied in a very curt and rude way as if he didn't like talking with me. Anyway, I saw him talking in a very friendly and nice way in French with the other white guests. Just before leaving for the shuttle, I saw a matured white lady and a young white lady sitting in the lobby and thought they may be waiting for the shuttle. So I walked over to them and asked them just to let them know that the shuttle would be coming shortly. The matured lady then replied in a very friendly way that they were in fact waiting for private transport. The male receptionist saw me talking with them and started shouting at me saying that; "no no ma'am they're not waiting for the shuttle, please, please" and putting his hands in a prayer motion as if he was begging me not to talk with them. It was evident that he was being racist and didn't like me with my Asian looks and Asian accent talking with the two white ladies who were earlier talking with him in French. I hope the hotel management will give this gentleman some good advise about professional courtesy and public relations despite the guests' origin. My experience at the hotel overall was a terrible experience that I hadn't had in any other hotel overseas.

Air France put us up at this hotel after our flight was late and we missed our Paris connection on a day that all the other flights were sold out. Air France gave us our hotel voucher in the am, but the hotel shuttle doesn't start running till 6:45 that evening, so we had to spend the day at the airport. If Air France had told us that it would be many hours before the shuttle would pick us up, we could have taken the train to spend the day in Paris, but we had to find it out the hard way. (Yes, we did call the hotel, but they denied they even had a shuttle, so no help there.) By US standards, this hotel is spartan at best. The food in the restaurant was basic. If you don't have a French electricity converter for the wall socket (and we didn't), the hotel will sell you one, but not provide it. We chose not to buy one at their inflated prices. The bathroom was small and strangely laid out. There was a towel rack right above the commode, so males had to stand off to the side to use it. If sitting down to use the commode, you were in danger of hitting your head if you stood up and forgot the towel rack was there. To make the commode even more trying, it was very close to the wall. We wondered how large people could even use it. No washcloths in the bathroom, but also no sponges like you commonly find in French hotels. The hallway smelled of cigarette smoke and the elevators were slow and very small. The hotel was fine for one night, but it you are already irritated at Air France, this hotel will not improve your mood.

Wouldn't Stay At This Hotel

We spent the night before our flight on Sept. 18. The AC didn't work in our room and as there were no windows to open and a warm day in Paris, we didn't get much sleep. Went outside a few times to cool off. We needed to get towels from the front desk (the room had none initially). A cold shower at 3 am did the trick. The hotel is quite worn and dirty.

Disgusting

Disgusting. See photos. Filthy. Bad food. Rude people. Everyone who stays here missed a connection and the airline put then up here. Mold on the air vents. Peeling paint. Just do not stay here. If this place didn’t get missed connection stays they wouldn’t make it without captive guests.
