ibis Saint-Étienne - La Terrasse 3 sterren

Having read some less than good previous reviews, and having been unable to find online any precise directions for accessing the hotel’s car park (see below), we were not expecting too much from this stay. However, we were pleasantly surprised. Our room was a reasonable size, clean, and in good condition. The ensuite was an adequate size, and, again, was clean with everything in working order. The air conditioning worked well and was quiet. The wifi was adequate (access code given to us at check-in). We did not have an evening meal at the hotel. Breakfast was standard Ibis fare in a spacious, quiet, and pleasant environment. None of the staff we encountered spoke English. This was not a problem for us, but is unusual for an Ibis, so might catch some people out. Now for the parking: Approach via Place Massenet, which is one-way. Keep in the left hand lane as you pass the tram station. Ignore the next signed turning to a car park. Continue until you are two car lengths from the stop line at the traffic lights and turn left at an unsigned turning, across the tram lines, and into the Ibis car park. You have the choice of above ground free parking, which we opted for, or underground pay parking.

I stayed here for two nights (1 & 2 October 2021) and everything was brilliant. Restaurant, breakfast, helpful staff ….. . I needed to be back one week later, and reserved the same room, adapted for my wheelchair. When I returned on Friday 8th, what a contrast! I was not assigned the room I had booked, but one as far from the lift as was possible, and in which I could not turn my wheelchair, but had to exit in reverse: very difficult when the door opens inward, and the door springs are strong 😥. The bar and restaurant were closed, for which no reason was offered, and I had to go several kilometres into st Etienne centre to dine. Very disappointing especially as my meal had been EXCELLENT the week before. They had shown that they could be excellent, but clearly their standards are not consistent. I do not recommend this hotel.

Was op doorreis en kwam toevallig voorbij. Vriendelijk personeel, propere kamer en badkamer. Alles naar normale ibis normen.

The hotel room was very clean but like the other reviewer there were no instructions for the heating but it was not too cold. It states free wifi but you have to return to reception for a voucher which I think should be explained when checking in. Also it is only up until midnight??We had the dish of the day in the restaurant and both had the steak. I could not eat it, it was raw, chewy the cheapest cut of meat imaginable along with potato gratin which was not fresh probably a couple of days old. The salad for starter however was nice so did not starve! The breakfast was very good value for money with great choice.The staff were all friendly. I have always looked for Ibis hotels when travelling but will now try others in the future.

Hotel is located close to the motorway but quite a distance from the town centre. Within walking distance there's no real restaurants just some fast food options. The town center is about 15 minutes away by car or tram. Hotel itself doesn't look like much from the outside. Reception is sparsely decorated and very small. Restaurant/bar is well looked after and quite spacious but rather expensive. Breakfast is extremely limited in options. My room was extremely clean and kept clean during my entire stay. Staff was generally friendly but appeared a bit surely. English skills of most weren't great except for one young bar tender who had lived in the UK for some time. Before my stay I had emailed them to ask for an extra blanket in my room and to ask if they could put me in a quiet room which they had done All in all.. nothing to complain about but somehow I didn't get very enthusiastic either.
