We stayed for one night while we were moving from Paris to another city. The team was so helpful in giving us directions and what to do with the limited time we had. That day there was heavy rain and they equipped us with umbrellas and ensured we are having all the right directions. Front desk agent who checked us was great. We also would like to recognize concierge team member, Sebastian(if we recall the name correctly) and if not the very knowledgeable staff in the concierge team . He was very helpful with all the details on the map and without his input, we wouldn't have been able to go around in such a limited time.

The staff at the hotel were all kind and helpful but lacking the lustre of true 5 star hotel hospitality and the hotel itself is outdated, old and in dire need of renovation in all aspects - decor, hospitality, food, rooms, amenities, everything. The lobby is atrocious!! I am surprised that this hotel was given a 5 star. Definitely has potential but needs a good captain to guide the crew! Actually, the Sofitel at the Gatwick airport in the U.K. seemed more 5 star than this property. Huge disappointment.

The Sofitel Lyon Bellecour was perfectly located with friendly and charming staff. The breakfast buffet was delicious with an extraordinary array of dishes to choose from. The conciege was incredibly helpful. The room was spacious and comfortable.

Good location but with a dire need of refurbishment

The Sofitel is usually associated with Chic and Luxury. But this association is quickly thrown away the moment you walk into the lobby with its table football and lack of bellboys. The front office team and the concierge are full of energy and good advice. It was great dealing with their helpful attitude. The room itself was spacious. It has a nice walk-in closet. The usual robes and slippers were available. The Sofitel bed was comfortable although the over-mattress was a bit off and I had to readjust it. Otherwise the room felt old and far from luxurious. There was some clear lack of maintenance. The toilet bowl was cracked and would shake and rattle no matter how softly one would try to sit on it. The bathroom mirror was full of large de-silvered spots. The usual Hermès toiletry (also displayed in the hotel website pictures) have been replaced by wall-mounted Balmain liquid dispensers. The electric blinds did not roll down evenly on one the window panes resulting in a gap that allowed sunlight into the room early in the morning. I had to block it with a suitcase. The tea amenities consisted of just two bags of Ceylon tea. The TV cables were hanging in an unsightly messy knot from under the TV table. There were no free power outlets to charge our phones on either side of the bed. This last point is probably a clue on when the rooms were last refurbished. The parking garage has an area cordoned off due to parts of the floor having crumbled. Even the large Sofitel neon sign on the exterior of the building had a burned-out (unlit) letter. We just did not feel Sofitel touch at the Sofitel Lyon Bellecour.

Very long check-in, disappointing view, restaurant closed, frustrating and unfair misunderstandings

We parked our car under the hotel at 4PM and took it out at 9Am; 103 euros bill. It turned out that if we had paid at desk first, it would have been 34 euros. This was typical of the whole stay. We had chosen the hotel for its restaurant which may be permanently closed. Top category room lacked personality and unless the sun was shining, it was dark. Personnel seemed very inexperienced. So many much, much nicer hotels in Lyon, with better location! We chose this one because of the restaurant, bad mistake.
