A very good overnight stop

We were part of a Leger Luxuria coach party on a holiday to Brittany and our overnight stops (inward and outward) were here. Reception staff were excellent and spoke very fluent English (about 50% of our coach party had no French!) Room was good - bar had excellent beers and local cider. We ate in "Le Lodge" on the first night along with a few others from our coach and enjoyed the meals we had. Chatting to others on our coach re the experience meant 29 of the 36 on the trip ate here on the return! One other guest even said it was the best meal she had eaten on the trip. I found the food good but did have some superb fish dishes in Dinan! Overall I'd recommend staying and eating here!

Feels like a good 3 star hotel

The hotel star ratings are a peculiar tick list of requirements that can lead to odd ratings. Whilst I am not privy to the Novotel Rouen Sud rating - I suspect that the large reception/lobby area that includes a bar, a 24 hour reception and for France the room size itself - drove the determination of a 4* rating for the hotel. This does not feel like a 4* hotel, it is a nice 3* hotel and should be viewed as such. The hotel is on the outskirts of Rouen and perfect for a pre Calais stop off. This means that it is pretty full of British people. The hotel also houses about 10 Tesla superchargers, when we arrived at about 3pm - these were all full up by the Teslerati none of who appeared to be staying overnight, there is one other EV charger - but in a disabled bay - are you willing to be 'that' person that charges there? On the positives - the reception team are quick and efficient and the rooms fairly easy to get to as there are only 3 floors of rooms, but some are a longer walk than others. The rooms are a decent size - it looks like the standard set up is a double bed and sofa bed, a double room stays like this and a twin room appears to have the sofa bed pulled out (my experience only). There is a kettle in the room for those Brits along with basic tea and coffee (no Nespresso). The bar is pretty nice, though a touch expensive and can be busy, they do serve local beer though, which is nice. The bathroom comes with refillable soaps - which reduces waste. On the negatives - the separate toilet in the rooms is dingy and feels like going to the loo outdoors with the painted pebble-dash on the walls. The air conditioning controls do not appear to be connected to the vents in the room (maybe someone else's room). The hotel looks like it has about 300 rooms and breakfast can take about 100 people inside and out in a sitting - it can get busy there.

Additionally, the criteria and classifications are specific to each country, so requirements may vary from one country to another. Tesla chargers are not exclusive to guests, which is why you may have seen others using them. Also, we have not yet updated the markings for the universal charging station; however, we do have a large number of disable bay in our parking. Thank you again for your comments. Incompetent chef and over booking

Although I sent an email a week before, informing that I was celiac and lactose intolerant, I was served the same dishes as my group. Upon my complaints, the dish became cold and vegetarian: I'm not ! On the third attempt, I finally ate a dish suited to my health problem. I traveled with Chiesa travel group and the previous day we were told that our 30 rooms booked were not available ( due to over booking) and they moved us to the Mercure Rouen val de Reuil 20 km away. How is this possible?

Fantastic hotel

We stopped at this hotel on our journey home from holiday and had a fantastic experience. The room was a little tired but perfectly comfortable and had everything we needed. There is a swimming pool which looked nice - it was raining and so we didn’t get to use it unfortunately but it would have been lovely and refreshing after a long drive. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was all very good - 2 of us had entrecôte and 1 had the duck. All cooked to perfection and absolutely delicious. We had a cocktail in the bar after dinner and that was equally good, as was the local beer. Breakfast was fresh and there was a good selection of food - fantastic coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. We will absolutely book here again on our next trip.

Room was okay as you would expect for a generic Novotel. The food was appalling the burger was raw mince and then when we asked for it more cooked it was then incinerated and still served cold. So sleep there but don’t eat there, but then again there’s nowhere close by to eat.
