Pretty awful experience tbh. Only stayed one night, thankfully. Decor incredibly dated (woodchip wallpaper - seriously?) and just hideous. The toilet was separate from the bathroom and was like being in a cell with a flickering light. The safe swallowed our valuables and we couldn’t open it, neither could the receptionist. Fortunately, early next morning the night manager was able to do it. Room contained an exercise bike, bench and weights - not sure why - surely they would be better in a gym? These items took up so much room that there was no space for an armchair and the bed was squeezed up against the wall only allowing about 6 inches to get in the bed. Shame because the room was a decent size. Dinner was just execrable but there’s nothing much else in the area.

Ok for a night but more like a Travelodge

Everything is at ground level in this hotel but this does mean a long walk to your room and if you were a lone traveller opening a window at night might make you feel uncomfortable. Reception was a bit confused at checkin of our group and some rooms were not available which given that we arrived after 3pm was odd. The hotel has obviously had a face lift and was not unattractive but they really needed to strip off the artex on the ceilings and walls first as the result is a bit downmarket especially in the rooms. Some pictures had been placed in the corridors but there run out halfway down and they really didnt go with the rest of the decor. The room was nice but a bit dark although fine for a night. The toilet and bathrooms did not get modernised, other than the basin and good lighting over the mirror, and were clean and functional although the grouting on the floor looked like it had never been cleaned. The bed and pillows were comfortable, the bedside table lights worked well and the room was quiet so we slept well. Breakfast was quite nice, the orange juice, yogurt and fruits were fine and there is a kettle in the room. The set menu for dinner was ok but what was served differed from what was on the menu we saw which was odd. As I was ill staff kindly did me a mushroom omelette with vanilla ice cream to follow which was most welcome, although it did need chasing up to get delivered. Overall fine for a night but given its out of town location you will need to eat here.

Two stars for a comfy bed and that's about it - keep driving!

Novotel can, and do elsewhere, so much better. Comfortable beds, dated decor and that is about as good as it got. We stayed twice, outbound and homeward, should have cancelled the second stay and booked elsewhere but inertia kicked in. Checking in, there is no reception desk, just a high narrow table with the staff member really struggling on a mobile phone app to get us booked in. Pure pretensiousness, what's wrong with a proper desk, full sized computer screen that the staff can work much faster on. We got there in the end, and went to our rooms down the end of the longest hotel corridor I have ever been in, our rooms must have been in a different postcode! Bizarrely the only lift up to the next floor was also at the far end of this corridor. Settle in and back to the bar for a beer, or a wait at the bar for the absent barman to appear - 6:30 pm - drinks time you'd think. Once a queue started forming, I had a word with the receptionist about calling someone, she cannot have missed seeing the queue but I suppose 'it wasn't her job to do the bar'. First stay there was only a buffet dinner available. One hot choice only - chicken in cream sauce - haricots vert and new potatoes the only veg. There may once have been a hot flan or quiche, but there were only crumbs on a tray which remained that way for the rest of the service (we sat down at 8pm). I missed the last chicken breast and a full 10 minutes wait earnt me a leg joint. How the kitchen manages to cook chicken through but leave it tough, stringy and clinging to the bone for all it's worth, I don't know. They managed the same feat on our return trip when the a la carte was back, that time with thighs in a truly awful dish with lentils cooked with had to be a vegetable stock cube. Breakfast was a hit and miss affair. Breads and croissants a few cold cuts, cheese etc. Hot food was scrambled eggs, bacon swimming in grease and what looked like last night's potatoes. The eggs were out and only two sorry pieces of bacon when we got down at 8:30am. It took another ten minutes for the staff to even notice the shortage and start to remedy it. This place showed all the signs of having NO-ONE ACTUALLY IN CHARGE. Not in the front of house and certainly not in the restaurant at dinner or breakfast. It was just an unsupervised bunch of youngsters, most of them no doubt doing their best. Oh and they have removed cofee making from the rooms ' to protect the environment' or some such nonsense. Some idiot accountant in head office no doubt patting themself on the back at the money saved. I can't remember having to write such a scathing review but this place deserves it.

Regarding the coffee-making facilities in the rooms, I understand your frustration. Our initiative to reduce single-use items is part of our commitment to sustainability, but we want to balance that with guest comfort as we offer a voucher for a coffee at our bar. A disorganised chaos on arrival, tried to take payment for a pre-paid stay, and absent bar service. Poor menu for veggies.

Barefoot and naked people at reception

All the people wear swimsuits and are barefoot at the reception, I felt almost like being at a beach. Flip flops and shorts at dinner are the usual attire. You are requested to keep the cutlery used for the starter for the main course. It is not acceptable to be decently dressed for dinner among barefoot companies.

While we don't impose a strict dress code at our restaurant, we do require guests to wear footwear for safety reasons. Given that our hotel features a pool, it's common for guests to come in wearing swimsuits and casual attire, especially during the summer months.
