Basic heritage room but still a pleasant and relaxing stay

My wife and I took up an appealing package deal that included two nights in a heritage room in Erskine House. The room was spacious and comfortable but with only limited light and obscured vision from the small window. The Included buffet breakfast was a treat, and we enjoyed dining in the restaurant one night. The convenient location made it possible to just forget our car for two days and enjoy walking the beach and to cafes, restaurants and lookouts.

As the main building is a heritage listed building, the windows are of original design, and are over 150 years old. It does have that Heritage feel, the new accommodation blocks provide a more modern layout in their nature and potentially an option for your next visit. Regards

My wife and I recently stayed two nights at Mantra Lorne. We had booked a Heritage Room but were given a 1-bedroom Garden View apartment. While our apartment was on the second floor, we were very pleasantly surprised to find there was a lift. The apartment is spacious and includes a kitchen with an electric stove and a full size refrigerator and the bathroom included a spa bath. There was also a small laundry with a 5kg washing machine and dryer which was shared with the adjoining apartment - sufficient washing powder for two washes was provided. Undercover parking is allocated to the "A" numbered units. Check in was quick and easy and the bed was very comfortable. The resort facilities include tennis courts, a putting green, outdoor chess and chequers boards, an indoor heated 25m swimming pool and spa and a gym. Additional towels for the swimming pool/spa and gym are available at reception. As other reviewers have noted the spa and pool were a few degrees cooler than desirable. An advantage of the indoor pool is that you do not suffer from the cold breeze blowing off the ocean when stepping out of the pool! The beach is across the road from the resort, and there are various walks which can be taken around the town of Lorne. We included the hot breakfast option at The Larder restaurant. The range of cereals was limited, but there was otherwise a wide range of continental options. On both days the hot breakfast included bacon, scrambled eggs, potato jewels (labelled as hash browns) and chicken sausages, with on the first day mushroom ragout and corn with spinach leaves, while on the second day grilled tomatoes and baked beans were the options. Other egg options could be ordered in lieu of scrambled eggs. Barista coffee was available at additional cost; I used the espresso machine (only one is available) and thought the coffee was very bitter tasting. At $169 per night we thought Mantra Lorne offers excellent value and would love to return for a longer stay. A special mention of the happy hour snacks available from the bar which on Mondays are available rom 17:00 to 21:00 (and 16:00 to 17:00 on other days). The $5 7" pizzas (margherita or chorizo) and $5 chips are excellent value. TC

As your review and others point out regarding the in-door pool, it is heated at 31 degrees and the spa once operational in full again will return to the 38 degree range. Had a wonderful stay here. We booked a Heritage room but I think we had been upgraded to a one bedroom garden view unit. It was very spacious with a separate bedroom and kitchenette. Bed was very comfortable, plenty of hot water and WiFi was good. Our carpark was right outside the complex we were in. The grounds are very spacious with plenty to do for families with children. We are an older couple and just enjoyed our surroundings. We had breakfast on both mornings and dinner on our second night. The breakfast buffet was extensive with plenty to choose from. Dinner was delicious. I had a chicken pasta dish and my partner had the rib eye steak. Both the chicken and steak were cooked perfectly. The service was excellent. We also used the heated pool, spa and steam rooms. The gym looked well equipped too. The beach is just across a track to the rear of the hotel. It is a short walk to the shops, cafes and restaurants. We would definitely recommend.

Staff friendly on arrival . The whole complex seems a bit dated and reception smells musty when entering. We had a garden room with a nice sea views , room was clean with a comfortable bed. Could only get one tv channel and no Netflix but we were only staying one night so didn’t worry. Toilet cistern dripped the whole night keeping us awake and this was reported to reception following morning. Overall stay acceptable.

Was like sleeping in a laundry mat

Our room was close to where they did their laundry . On our approach to our room it was like walking through a laundry mat both side were covered in red laundry carts. It would have been nice to have robes to go to the swimming pool. The whole place needs a a good coat of paint, and theirs lots of rust in the pool area . The room was clean and tidy and the food was nice
