Downgraded When The Hotel Made An Error

I was staying with my elderly father, taking him on one last trip to forge memories. Upon arrival at the Fairmont Chateau at Lake Louise, we found our room had one bed. I love my father very much, but I don't wish to share a bed with him! Our itinerary clearly showed we were to have two beds. I asked for a new room, and the best they could provide was a downgrade to a very poky twin single bed room that we could barely move around in. I was feeling very upset, so I went back to complain, and was taken to see the manager. He told me there were no available rooms for both nights we were staying there. I said we would stay in the downgraded room the first night if a room of the standard we had paid for could be found for us for the second night. This was done, however I am not happy at all. Rather than providing a downgrade when made aware of the error, we should have been offered a free upgrade. Poorly done, Fairmont. Poorly done.

I have wanted to stay at The Chateau Lake Louise for many years and 2024 my dream came true. Recently my husband and I travelled to Canada and stayed at The Chateau - stunningly amazing. We had the most wonderful time and thank the fabulous staff for helping to make our stay so special. We were upgraded to a suite and had direct views of the Lake We could not take our eye of it. The hotel is gorgeous and the beauty of the lake takes your breath away. This was my favourite stay of anywhere in the world. The best way to enjoy the Lake and the surrounds is to stay a few days here. The hotel has lots of activities and nothing is too hard for them to arrange. The food in all the restaurants was delicious and special. Treat yourself and stay here. You won’t regret it.

We ate at the restaurant Alpine Social when we stayed at the Fairmont Chateau. The person who served us and took care of us is Sydnee. She went out of her way to give us the food we requested since some of us were vegetarians. She was very friendly and polite. We enjoyed the dinner very much. So thanks to Sydnee for making our meal very enjoyable.

The only redeeming quality for this hotel stay was the view. We paid over $1200 USD per night for a 3 night stay. We were put in the smallest and most uncomfortable room we’ve ever experienced. There was barely enough space between the bed and opposing furniture to walk through and the washroom was extremely tiny and dimly lit. Our deluxe room was downgraded for our last night there but we were never refunded for the difference in price. We won’t be recommending this hotel to anyone for the price and what one receives. We feel cheated and betrayed by the online listings that didn’t portray the rooms correctly. Other people on our Rocky Mountaineer train raved about the large rooms with balconies they received at a much lower price. Why the discrimination?

We went for afternoon tea at 12.15. It was fabulous but I should have gone for an earlier slot as we were some distance from the beautiful windows. Visiting for a meal meant we could use the hotel parking but I was a little surprised it was charging $40. Lovely way to see this hotel and the lake which is truly beautiful.
