On checking in, we went to the desk where we saw a staff member sitting alone. We assumed we could check in but instead she informed us there was a queue. We then saw a few people sitting in chairs around the lobby - the queue. We have stayed in 5 star hotels where you get a hot cloth (others in the queue got this) and/or a welcome drink while waiting to check in but in my opinion, check in let the hotel down. The grounds are fabulous and the staff do their best but some are not fully trained in bar service and we waited ages while the one hard working girl got around to us while loads of staff seemed to be just walking around with trays. Why is breakfast not served in the very nice area beside reception-instead you walk ages to the breakfast area, through a courtyard where I’m sure 9 times out of 10 it is raining. Overall, Carton could up its game to be a true 5 star in Ireland-Ballyfin or Adare Manor have no need to worry.

Stayed for a family gathering recently, really enjoyed it, The entire staff were professional, courteous, efficient and most importantly to me attentive, from the moment we got out of the car to the moment we left. The room and ensuite bathroom were spacious and spotlessly clean, tastefully lit and furnished, very comfortable, The food was gorgeous, fresh, tasty and very well presented, The kitchen and dining room staff were really on top of their game, the entire family really enjoyed their meal. The bar afterwards was comfortable cozy and spacious, The hotel itself is a beautiful building easily accessible from the motorway yet far enough from traffic to even hear or see it with beautiful grounds and amenities outside for family photographs. The only downside was the very short walk in light rain across a courtyard the following morning for breakfast (Umbrellas were freely available) All in all i would recommend this place and will definitely return.

BREAKFAST is in a separate building to hotel. You need a coat&umbrella as you have to go outside. Not a great experience

Comfortable hotel, bed, quiet room, friendly staff. HOWEVER the breakfast is in a separate building from the hotel, meaning you have to go outside to go to breakfast which as it’s Ireland involves a coat and umbrella. Not what I want to do on a cold rainy morning and not what I’d expect from a 5star hotel. If you have mobility issues it’s a 10mins walk from room to breakfast and there are steps to go outside and uneven surfaces.

Brilliant stay! Will be back!

Absolutely brilliant stay and will be back. Attention to detail in this hotel is brilliant. Friendly and attentive staff, excellent food, great ambiance and immaculately clean. Very impressed with the housekeeping team who left our room beautifully during our stay over. Great location with lots to do and great activities for Halloween for the kids. Everything well thought out and well run.
