Very nice hotel situated in the middle of the marina area. Rooms are large and bed was very comfortable. Views of the harbour are relaxing with balconies available. Quiet and private location and is my preferred location when visiting Mackay although you need to drive to get to the CBD and commercial areas. A Pub, steak restaurant and fish and chip shop are a easy walk from the Mantra. Other takeway shops are a short drive away. Haven't used the restaurant downstairs so unable to comment on the quality or type of food offered. Plenty of outsdie eating areas if required. Recommend for both business and short term visitors.

Great service lovely staff very helpful including the maintenance grounds staff. I left a tip for the cleaner on my last day & they called me to say I left money in the room very honest cleaning staff & management which is great to see & says a lot about the managment.

Room very clean but overall hotel very tired. Pool dirty and cleaner sitting in pool for whole visit. Cans/bottles in pool area not collected. Restaurant closed for dinner for both nights we were there as well as surf club (despite reception recommending surf club).

My husband and I stayed there for our anniversary and the room was amazing, we would have stayed longer although the bed was not comfortable for us. The view was spectacular and it was also amazing while sitting on the toilet, we had breakfast the next morning and that too was amazing, nice food, good prices and good size portions. Thank to the staff at the Mantra they were very friendly and more than helpful. Would recommend to anyone who likes the ocean view and sea breeze to stay here and enjoy like we did.

Never to Return

Hotel staff at reception were very nice and helpful but I can't say the same for the staff in the restaurant. Checked in Friday 19th, 2 of us had breakfast Saturday morning in their restaurant but had to wait ages for our meals. While they tasted good it was obvious they were understaffed. Our family of 12 went there for breakfast yesterday 21st but were treated like such an inconvenience. The waitress was rude but the chef was more polite. After her rudeness one of our party phoned another place in the vicinity to see if they could accommodate us so we walked out of the Mantra restaurant and went elsewhere. While the understaffing was not the fault of the waitress there was no need to be rude. The price we paid for 2 nights accommodation you would think they could afford to put more staff on especially when it was a weekend. Next time I'm in Mackay I won't be staying at the mantra again.
