It's a shame my stay ended so badly, because the reception staff were fantastic and although the hotel is tired, the location is good. Unfortunately, two days after I returned home I broke out in an aggressive and painful rash all over my body which my GP diagnosed as scabies. After running through my movements over the last week, she determined that the only likelihood was my stay at the Mercure Rockhampton. I contacted the hotel to advise them and, after several days of being ignored, was finally responded to by the duty manager who told me they'd checked the room and there was no sign of scabies (you can't actually see scabies, as I told him). He also went on to tell me the rooms were recently renovated and therefore couldn't have scabies - also not accurate. They said they couldn't cover any of my expenses (now in excess of $350.00) and that I should "check my itinerary and see if I have been to some other places that might caused scabies". I literally went from plane to hotel to art gallery to hotel to plane. And everywhere except the hotel room I was fully clothed (funny that) which makes the likelihood of contraction elsewhere virtually zero. When I replied saying that I was less concerned about compensation and more concerned that other guests not be put through the same experience I have been, they simply ignored me. Over a month down the track I am still covered in significant bruising from the bites, and am frankly pretty gun shy about staying in hotels in the future, which is unfortunate because I travel regularly for work. I would therefore suggest staying absolutely ANYWHERE other than Mercure Rockhampton. The local bus stop is probably safer than this unprofessionally managed dump.

Decent hotel for a short stay. Close to everything in rocky, within walking distance to get food and drinks and go on scenic walks.Parking is sometimes difficult ,and may be a walk while lugging all your bags to get to the reception area. Bathrooms were a bit older style but all you need for a shorter stay

This very old property has an unreal location and views and so much potential. The staff are terrific friendly and professional and accommodating. The car parking is tight so you will feel lucky to get a spot, if not park at the rear or on the street. Walking distance to all that the town offers and the river walks. The rooms are not good, the 2 bedside lamps in our room had faults and flashed all stay, the room has furniture that does not seem to fit the space, there is room for king beds, there should be spare pillows and blankets in the room, the coffee machine was great and the microwave was unexpected. The balcony was unreal except for the sliding door roars each time its open and closed makes so much noise and sticks and needs to be forced to close, needs maintenance, all the furniture needs replacing. Where is the local decoration to showcase amazing rockhampton? the bathroom is not good, the tiling, the kitchen bench, needs storage the old toilet the whole thing and the linen.all of it. the air con is ancient noisy disrupting sleep, can the general manager please contact the mantra airlie beach and the mantra gladstone for a site inspection to see how lux the rooms are. this is what the mercure rockhampton could be .please do this and we will drive the 5 hours it takes to get to you and return often.

Went to dinner at the restaurant staying in hotel next door for a business trip Food was amazing … and way surpassed anything experienced in a Mercure attached restaurant so far. The steaks were cooked to perfection .. an absolute must adding pepper sauce with the accompanying mash .. it would challenge any high end steakhouse. Then the crème brûlées were just the thing to finish off a great meal. So good we went again night two rather than find another place to eat in town and brought in more to try.. ordering exactly the same meal and it didn’t disappoint in fact I think it was slightly better. You guys have absolutely nailed it.. well done and keep it up
