I would recommend the hotel. The staff were very helpful and the room well appointed, but perhaps a tiny bit on the small side. It is very well located - trams past the door, major train station opposite, on the edge of the CBD (business and retail) and a short stroll to the delights of South Bank. The buffet breakfast was well presented but very pedestrian.

There is a lot to like about this hotel. The bed is very comfortable, the room was very clean, the lounge was comfy to relax on and the location was brilliant. But there were quite a few things that weren’t quite right. I checked in early and the reception staff very kindly found a room that was ready straight away. What they didn’t tell me was that it was an accessible room which meant a toilet with rails and a little higher, a shower with a bench and curtains only which meant that water went everywhere and every at the right height from someone in a wheelchair. Perfect for someone that needed this but not great for me. I would have liked to have been asked if this was ok before being surprised when I arrived in the room. The first time I grabbed a towel it had a dark stain on it. The other towels were thin and small, not what I expect in a hotel of this standard. The reception staff were lovely, as was the female bar manager. Other staff not so great. Breakfast was abysmal - apparently you need to book. The staff member seating me was very abrupt. The selection at breakfast was very average and the space very small for a buffet. Coffee was from a Nespresso machine with no instructions for use and was awful. No one offered to assist with ordering proper coffee from the cafe. When I did order from the cafe my order was forgotten and needed to be chased up. Overall a very disappointing breakfast experience, especially given the cost of it. Not sure if I would stay here again.
Thank you 247kellil for the detailed review and feedback regarding your recent stay. It is great to hear that you found a lot to like about the experience and I also appreciate the specific feedback in areas that can be improved. The team works hard to ensure all guests have a positive experience and we are always looking at how things can be done better. I have spoken to the Housekeeping Team about your room and will continue to assist them with training to ensure nothing is missed going forward. Thanks you again for the review, we do hope that we can welcome you back again and show you a more seamless experience. Kind Regards, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager - Movenpick Melbourne

I booked this hotel as other work colleagues were staying there also. It is handy to the train station and nearby shopping centres and restaurants. The restaurant in the hotel didn't appeal to me. I was going to eat there but there was nothing on the menu that looked inviting so I went wandering and found other nice places to eat. The room I had was comfortable and well appointed.
Hi 435georgeg, Thanks for taking the time to send us your review, we are glad you enjoyed your stay. I can understand that Modern Asian Cuisine might not be to everyone's tastes, we do offer some more traditional options in our room service menu for guests who are craving something different. Thankfully there are plenty of great dining options nearby, and we are glad you were able to find something suitable. We look forward to being able to welcome you back again soon. Upside. Great location. Pool and spa were amazing. The art within the hotel and foyers was modern and pretty cool. Chocolate hour for guests was nice. Could be better but a nice selling point and a lovely touch Downside. Rooms are TINY. Probably half the size of a normal hotel for the $$ paid. Roughy the size of a single car garage. Central location however with that comes lots of noise from trams and general public. Don’t expect the best sleep you have ever had Overall I would say 6.8 out of 10. There are many better hotels in Melbourne for the money. We paid $425 a night including 2 breakfasts. No parking Not cheap , however not over the top. Would I stay again ….. maybe due to the location and that pool and spa. So relaxing and no screaming kids !
Hi 106an, Thank you for the review, it is great to hear you enjoyed our Pool and were able to take some time to relax. We agree that our pool and spa are a highlight and something that is uniquely Melbourne. There are not many pools where you can look out towards a heritage brick building while taking in the sounds of Trams "dinging" down below on Spencer Street. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Kind Regards, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager - Movenpick Melbourne

Being almost brand new, the Hotel is clean and pleasant to stay in. We found the room spacious, the bed was really comfortable, the bathroom has plenty of room and the shower is excellent. There is some noise from trams and traffic below but it wasn't a problem for us as we are used to it. It does quieten down after midnight. There is a Nescafe machine in the room and a selection of teabags but only two of each type, so we had to order more English Breakfast from Housekeeping but this was no problem and we were given plenty more. There are large pump packs of shampoo, conditioner and hand and body wash in the bathroom which is great and yet were given two complimentary plastic bottles of water. Perhaps instead guests could be given reusable bottles as a gift and have a water cooler near the lifts on each floor. Staff are really friendly and very helpful except at the bar when I was asked if there 'was a bar menu or is it the same as the restaurant', to which I was told, 'Give or take' and he wandered off. We never did work out what that meant as we went somewhere else. The real let down was the breakfast. It's the usual basic selection which is ok, however one of the kitchen assistants kept coming out and opening the lids on all of the warm food and leaving them open, so the scrambled eggs etc were cold. Tea and coffee comes from a coffee machine that is not clear how to use it. Being a small space, it became crowded with frustrated people wanting to get a cup of something but being hindered by each person struggling to work out how to use the machine. One of the waiting staff was constantly being called upon for assistance. Meanwhile everything was running out - teabags, milk, juice etc and she was prevented by refilling them as she was needed at the coffee machine. She remained smiling and helpful even as she had to deal with the rising frustration from guests. What was worst of all and totally inexplicable is that only paper cups are provided for tea and coffee. This simply defies common sense. We would stay again. Overall it is a lovely place to stay, especially while it still has the appeal of being new and fresh. If we ordered breakfast, then I would bring the mug from our room and extra tea bags.
Thanks BigWorldDreaming for the review! We appreciate you taking the time to let us know about your stay and some of the challenges you experienced during breakfast. I have spoken to my Food & Beverage Manager to ensure we do not use paper cup at breakfast ever again, as this is not the standard and from what I was informed was only done to ensure enough cups were available for the high numbers we had booked in for breakfast that week. There is no excuse for a poor experience or service and we will continue to work hard to ensure that all of our guests have a memorable stay. We are always looking at how we can improve and will be using your feedback to help us with this process. Thank you again for the review and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Sincerely, Cory Norris-Jones General Manager - Movenpick Melbourne
