Absolutely impressed by this hotel. The room had a cosy vibe and was modern, clean and comfortable. Walking distance to restaurants and short taxi ride to Kyoto’s centre. Would stay here again.

Messy and chaotic

It is so far from station, no facilities available. Always crowded with tour groups. Breakfast needs to queue. Long waiting time for minor arrangement at front desk. No managerial personnel around. Seems to be lack of management.

Had one of the best stays during my Japan trip in Mercure. The hotel is an experience in itself with carefully curated theme and a scent welcoming you from the reception until your room. Treated us well being an Accor member and would definitely suggest this place to anyone staying in Kyoto. A class apart.

For our second stay in Kyoto, we were looking for a location closer to Kyoto Station and decided to stay at this hotel. The check-in went smoothly, and the staff were polite and efficient, but not very enthusiastic. The rooms were clean and had everything we needed except for the body lotion. The rooms had a low ceiling, and the couch had a nice design but was too small and not comfortable, making the room seem very small. The rooms were also not very soundproof and did not have a good view. The location was not ideal, it was relatively far from the station, and there were not a lot of options for public transport in the area since the buses did not go to our desired sightseeing. The staff at the restaurant and bar were nice. However, in the evening, the staff were very slow and we had to wait half an hour for our drinks. We enjoyed our stay and the staff were friendly, but we would not choose this property again because of the location.

Great Stay If You Get the Right Price

We stayed at Mercure Kyoto Station during peak Cherry Blossom season, and prices were up by almost 50 percent. That was expected since it is one of the busiest times of the year. The hotel is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from Kyoto Station. It is not near it, so the name can be confusing. But the walk was pleasant, and after eating so much good food in Kyoto, it felt nice to stretch our legs. If you want something closer, Ibis Styles Kyoto Station is just across the street. One morning, we were heading down for breakfast and ended up waiting around 15 minutes for the elevator. There was a group tour checking out, and other guests were also going for breakfast, so the elevators kept arriving full. We even tried catching one going up to get in. It is something to consider if you are in a hurry, especially during busy hours. Breakfast was good, but since it was peak season, it got crowded. One thing we noticed was that the line for the coffee machine could get long. We also noticed that there was no body lotion in the room. I don't know if it was missed or if the hotel does not provide it. Not a big deal, but worth noting. We requested a room on a higher floor with a nice view. We did not expect any room upgrade since it was peak season, but they granted our request, and we really appreciated it. The room was clean and the view was incredible. We were also given lounge access included in the room we booked, but we never got around to using it because there was just so much to do in Kyoto. Maybe next time. :) Before checking out, we needed a laundry bag, but there were none in the room. We called for a bag and were given a regular plastic one. Again, not a major issue, but a small detail that could be improved. If I were to book again, I would choose this hotel at regular or discounted rates. It is clean, stylish, and located in a quiet part of the city, which some people might prefer. As an Accor member, I find that there are not many affordable options in Kyoto. The next cheaper options are Ibis Styles Kyoto Station and Ibis Styles Kyoto Shijo, which earn only half points. The other choices, like Dhawa Yura Kyoto, Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto, and Banyan Tree Higashiyama Kyoto, are beautiful but much more expensive. Mercure is a good balance if the price is right.
