Hotel is convenient and well priced. Location is decent within 10 minute walk of Kyoto Station. Rooms were clean and well kept however I find the rooms to be a bit on the dark side, not enough lighting but this might be just personal preference. Overall nothing bad to say about this hotel, just a slightly above average stay.

Great staff at counter and housekeeping. Was provided with daily bottle of water.A short walk about 10 minutes walk from Kyoto station.Room was provided as requested. The signage perhaps can be better and prominent as we thought we were walking to a residential neighbourhood when we first arrived.

Oh Baby It’s Cold Outside

I arrived at the hotel on Dec. 28, 2023 at 11:30 pm. Maybe it’s due to the cold weather and it was almost midnight, but the front desk officer didn’t even say hi to us. I tried my best to understand this unusual attitude, maybe because he was already tired. My family and I were all tired, too. He checked all four passports and processed our check-in. I booked two rooms. However, he told me only one room has breakfast privileges. I claimed both rooms have breakfast. He didn’t believe me so I opened my Accor All app and showed him proof that both rooms have breakfast. Unbelievable. Why do I have to show proof? How come it’s not in the system? Secondly, I had to ask for a room upgrade. He said he didn’t give me an upgrade because the floor will be different from the other room. I said it’s okay, I still want an upgrade. So my kids ended up at the 6th floor and I had my upgraded room at the 9th floor. But upon checking, the only difference between the rooms is the Nespresso machine! Actually, the 6th floor room is bigger and has a table and stool. My 9th floor upgraded room doesn’t have a table and stool. This is my 3rd time to stay in a Mercure chain hotel but the way I was treated here was very different. Location of the hotel is a 10 minute walk to Kyoto Station. It is in a very secluded area. The convenience store is about 5 minutes walk. There is one restaurant across the hotel. The other restaurants are 5-10 minute walk. I keep on asking myself why I paid so much (JPY 237,000 for 4 nights, 2 rooms)… Aside from the check-in officer, all the other staff of Mercure Kyoto Station has been helpful and kind. The housekeeping team kept the rooms clean every single day. By the way, even though it’s daytime and all the lights were on, the room was still dark! The buffet breakfast was delightful! My family’s favourite is the French toast. The cappuccino was excellent too. On New Year’s Day, the chef served octopus as part of the buffet breakfast. It was a gastronomic delight! For this, I am very grateful.

Not A Very Warm Welcome

I arrived on Dec. 28, 2023 at around 11:00 pm. The lobby was very quiet. There was no acknowledgement nor any greeting from the front desk officer. Maybe he was tired, I tried to understand. But this is very unusual considering I have stayed in other Mercure hotels before. I booked two rooms with complimentary breakfast. But front desk officer told me only one room has complimentary breakfast. I needed to search my All Accor app and show him proof that both rooms have breakfast. I requested for a room upgrade. He said he didn't give because only one room can be upgraded. This is the first time I encountered a request for upgrade. It has always been an automatic upgrade for two rooms. But I guess not all hotels are created equal. Some are generous and value loyalty. Others don't. The location of the hotel is in a very quiet neighborhood. It is a 10 minutes walk going to Kyoto Station. The nearest convenience store is a 3-5 minute walk. They charged so much during my stay because it was a holiday. I tried to understand. But JPY 237,500 for 4 nights, for 2 rooms? Very steep, right? During my stay, the other staff were very warm and friendly (except on my check-in day). The concierge was helpful. The breakfast spread was a delight. My family's favorite was the French toast. On New Year's Day breakfast, they served octopus! It was a gastronomic delight. I started my vacation with a very heavy heart because of the front desk officer but ended it with a good one because the check-out person and concierge were very nice. But if they charge so much (and the location was 10 minutes away from the subway), I will not stay again.

Comfortable stay, quiet location

I booked 2 superior rooms (1 with king bed, the other 2 single beds) and stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is located off the main road on a quiet street and is about a 10 min easy walk from the JR Kyoto Station. The rooms are good sized for 2 persons and clean. Wished there were more hooks to hang our things. Check in and out was quick and smooth and the staff was friendly. We had breakfast on our last day and the food was decent, with western and japanese food.
