Broken dishwasher in first apartment, broken stove and oven in second apartment, broken air-con in a third apartment!

We checked into a 3-bedroom apartment at Peppers on Magnetic Island on 17th September for 4 nights. Having stayed at various Peppers properties throughout Australia without any issues, we were expecting a certain level of standard for our stay ahead. It began well: Check-in was easy, the pool was fantastic, the apartment was clean and we happily settled in. That night after dinner, when we tried to use the dishwasher for the first time during our stay, we realised that it did not work. Not wishing to bother the front desk, we left this until the next morning. When I discussed this with the Reservations Manager the next morning, her reply was "oh, we knew about the broken dishwasher. It will take a few weeks to fix." ... So despite knowing that the dishwasher was broken, she had allocated that apartment to us and did not inform us about it until we discovered it for ourselves. When I said that we really needed access to a dishwasher, given that we were travelling with young children (on holidays!), her solution was to provide daily housekeeping instead of the standard weekly housekeeping. When I explained that this was not what we had expected, she miraculously found another empty 3-bedroom apartment that was available for the remainder of our stay! We don't understand why this other vacant apartment was not initially offered to us if it was vacant in the first place (it was exactly the same configuration as the initial apartment) when she knew that the first apartment had a non-functioning dishwasher! That night in the new apartment, as we went to cook dinner, we realised that the oven and stove did not work! Thankfully reception was still open and the receptionist kindly came to look at this. He found that the circuit switch was jammed in the 'off' position, which he then used the handle of a knife to hammer back into position with increasing force until it finally budged! Once we had a functioning stove, oven and dishwasher, all else turned out fine. However, another member of our travelling party was staying in a studio apartment, and the air-conditioning stopped working during day 2 of her stay. They had an air-con tech come to repair it the next day (day 3) but it still did not work, until a second air-con tech came out the following day (day 4), by which it was almost time to check out! There was no offer to bring a fan to help relieve the heat, or an attempt to try and find another vacant room with a working air-con. Overall, I understand that things like dishwashers, air-cons and circuit switches can malfunction with time. However, it was the way in which these issues were addressed that can be improved. Shrugging and saying "oh well, there's nothing we can do" is not helpful. Allocating an apartment with a known faulty dishwasher without disclosing this to the guests is wrong, especially when there is a vacant alternative. These incidents really soured our experience at Peppers when it would otherwise have been a relaxing holiday.

Poor communication and rude reception

Well located. Pool and grounds well maintained and check in was efficient. Unfortunately the stay was marred by the lack of in room maintenance, poor communication and customer service. We stayed four nights there where the aircon stopped working (whole unit couldn’t turn on) on the second day. Maintenance team fixed the fan component however it was blowing warm air. I have informed reception and the solution from maintenance team was to hide the aircon remote so that I couldn’t touch the control. The unit was still blowing warm air. Both reception and maintenance refuse to believe me that the unit was blowing warm air. Reception also refuse to contact the manager, or offer any solutions (refuse to source portable aircon, extra fans or swap rooms) and slammed the phone down after my call. I wrote an email to the help team at midnight as my kids and I couldn’t sleep. Next morning surprisingly the aircon was fixed around 10 (24 hours after first reporting of issue) and the remote appeared. Again, no explanations, communication nor apologies. Throughout these issues, there were no communications from either reception nor maintenance initiated. All communications were initiated by me. I can understand that due to lockdown and possible staffing issues, facilities may need maintenance. What disappointed me was treating me as being clueless as if I cannot tell the difference between aircon (cold refrigerated air) and fan mode (warm room temperature air) when I have the same aircon unit at home. I am frankly appalled at the rude treatment of dismissing my concerns and refusal to engage or offer a solution. Pretty poor form, especially from the Peppers and Accor brand.

Good location, rooms a little dated and our room overlooked the car park ferry terminal, but location made up for it. Staff friendly and easy check in and check out. Pool area was nice and gardens well kept.

Very disappointing experience the bathroom wasn’t clean and looked very run down the Airconditioner unit was missing the vent cover so when the unit was turned on the cool air couldn’t be directed so when you sat on the couch you had cool air blowing directly on you The apartment I was in was up a flight of stairs and at the bottom of these stairs rubbish was dumped in this location without being covered so every time you passed you would get the smell of rubbish. Not a pleasant experience for someone who is trying to relax and enjoy what Magnetic Island has to offer I did advised the front desk about my concerns with the faulty Airconditioner and was told the cover was on order. I responded this didn’t help my holiday experience The room was poorly maintained and looked very tired

Excellent resort style property. Friendly staff who mostly will go over and above to ensure your stay is comfortable and memorable. This property is not exempt of staffing issues due to Covid. Disappointingly the restaurant was not open for many nights during our stay. There were many options recommended so dining was not a problem. As a side issue there is a hire car company "ISLE HIRE CAR" located close to the hotel. This is a WARNING to be aware of this company. There is a $200.00 deposit on all rentals. I my experience they make up stories to avoid having to refund the deposit. They refuse to talk/discuss to you. In an attempt to find out why my deposit was being withheld I was threatened and told to leave the premises or else. Very unprofessional and should be avoided. There ae many options for car hire on the island, you owe it to yourself not to experience the attitude or distress.
