Great location at the base of Yen Tu Mountain

Nota de Tripadvisor 5.0/5

Marco M En pareja - Valoración certificada de TripAdvisor

The hotel is located at the foot of Yen Tu Mountain, the most famous religious site in Vietnam, about 2.5hrs drive North-East of Hanoi or 1.5hrs from Ha Long Bay. Designed by William Bensley - the same architect that designed Hotel de la Coupole - MGallery in Sa Pa - the 13th-century style is just breathtaking. You could spend days touring the hotel grounds, sipping cocktails by the swimming pool or taking part in yoga and meditation classes,. We took the cable car to the top of Yen Tu mountain (the hotel can organise tickets & charge them to your room) - highly recommended but be prepared for a hike as the cable car doesn’t quite reach the top! The staff are absolutely wonderful, the front office manager contacted us in advance to organise private car transfers as well as an Ha Long Bay cruise, the GM greeted us personally on arrival and everyone here has gone above and beyond our expectations.

First up: avoid Yen Tu and this special hotel in the months of January-March (thereabouts), because that is the season when local Vietnamese flock to this holy mountain of Yen Tu for their pilgrimage. It would mean the hotel would be filled with tourists, and would most likely take away the magic of this resort. We were at Yen Tu in early June, but saw for ourselves the large roads, and I had a run out of Yen Tu Legacy and saw roads and roads of bus bays for large tour coach buses (which was thankfully empty in June), but it meant that the capacity for many more people is there. Even in early June, there were many domestic tourists, most of whom were not staying at the hotel, but wandered in from the 'village'. So I was confused too about this 'village': these were all built, together with this hotel, as a reimaging of 1300 (? or was it 1400) Vietnamese architecture. So the village felt like a tourist trap, a little fake, but still charming in its way, especially with the river flowing by it (step down to it from the village -- it's quite a lovely one). Not many shops were open when we were there (remember, any other time other than Jan - Mar is low season for Yen Tu -- a good thing!), but there were some craft activity for kids available (e.g. dragonfly toy made from bamboo for about US$4?) The hotel, though, was quite special. Even in photographs, it seems unbelievable, and it was like that. The corridors were amazing, the walk around the hotel incredible, it felt like being in 14th century Vietnam, like a princess roaming the grounds. At dusk and at night, it was even more incredible. It was quiet, and huge. The dining hall was cavernous, the breakfast buffet was good (though, skip the pastries, and head for the fruits, local noodles, etc). Lunch and dinner menu was OK, after a day or two it became a little stale. We had two adjoining junior suite rooms (the one with the copper like bathtubs). With the windows open, and a hot bath going, it was lovely, BUT there were tons of mosquitoes, so we had to shut the windows. Still a very special room. The adjoining rooms worked out well for us, a family with three children: they had the large king size bed. However, be warned: the shampoo /conditioner bottles are made of ceramic. SO EASILY BROKEN by the children (they broke two). Usually hotels of these sort would not charge for them, as we did not steal them nor did we break them on purpose. But they charged us for it! It was only after we made our case that they made us pay for only one. That was still incredible to me after all that we had paid for our rooms. The free activities at the resort e.g. yoga, was good. We had one family yoga session and nobody else turned up so it was like a private yoga session in the most incredible setting with the mountains in the background. How wonderfully peaceful. However, my husband signed up for another yoga session but the instructor did not turn up. He was waiting with other guests, and nobody came to inform them about this. Most unprofessional. The gym was very well kitted out, overlooking the amazing swimming pool. That we enjoyed tremendously. Lots of lovely insects too, e.g. leaf insects. Quite fascinating. The best part of the hotel is that it leads directly to the path to Yen Tu (should you want to climb it, which I did, and if you're quick, it's about 2.5 hours up and down with some quick snapping of photographs, though the staff would insist it takes 4 hours minimum). By cable car, the hotel would provide a buggy to take you to the start of the cable car station. We enjoyed our cable car + hike up to Yen Tu tremendously. It was cool up there in the peak. The grounds of Legacy was special, especially the big field where one could do some horse riding (for the children). However, that field was used by some team bonding exercise which blasted out music and loud microphone chatting, which disturbed the serenity of the hotel. We thank our lucky stars we had our junior suite rooms which were by the pool area, and not the more 'basic' rooms that over look the village greens. Perhaps avoid that area for rooms!!

Dear Areisende, Thank you for sharing about your stay in Legacy Yen Tu. We really appreciate that you understand precious values in Yen Tu mountain. Yen Tu mountain is considered as a house of Vietnamese Buddhism. So from the end of January to March, there are a lot of tourists coming to visit and pray for new year. About the village and Legacy Yen Tu, you are right. We built them with Tran dynasty architectural style so the guests can not only relax in an antique palace but also experience with historical values. Our resort is near Yen Tu forest, so sometime there are mosquitoes in room but if the guests request our staff can assist to catch immediately. About bottles of shampoo, we would like to replace plastic by ceramic to protect environment as Planet 21 of Accor but we really want to apologize for the inconvenience you mentioned. About yoga class, every morning we hold class at 7AM. But some days in week we move the class to the village to organise. So we assume your husband came to wrong place but that was our mistake for not guiding him correctly. In the square, some days there are several groups organizing outside activities so it makes noise. We will find out the best way to control it to avoid disturb our valued guests. One more time, we really want to say thanks for your comment and sorry for inconveniences in your stay. We really expect more chances to serve you again with better preparations and attentions. If you want to share more about your stay please contact us by Email Hb1y7-gr@accor.com. Regards, Nguyen Bach - Guest relation supervisor
