The Novotel Ulaanbaatar is a comfortable international hotel with all the facilities you would expect. Well located, English speaking, clean, good food options and nice rooms. Breakfast and restaurants all good and a nice lobby cafe. Recommended.

If anything could go wrong, it did go wrong. The Novotel Ulaanbaatar is not only a shoddy hotel from a facilities point of view, but from a leadership point of view. 1. The thermostat in my room did not work. When I went down the morning after I checked in to ask for another room they would not move me. 2. The door to the room did not shut properly. Most (if not all) hotel doors will automatically shut but the door to my room is not hung properly so will not shut unless forced. This is a safety issue! 3. The refrigerator did not work. 4. The television fell off the wall!! Regarding the television, I notified the front desk when this happened. When I later returned from a tour I received a call from the front desk manager, Chimgee, who informed me that I had pulled the television from the wall and that I would have to pay. I did not touch the television. I insisted that she and her manager, (name: Enkhtuvwhin) come to my room to discuss this further. From this point forward it became apparent that the front desk manager is a title with responsibility and that Enkhtuvwhin, who holds the title of Operations Manager is incapable of running a hotel or working with customers. Both Chimgee and Enkhtuvwhin said they'd do an investigation and committed to get back to me in two hours. Neither did and when I inquired at the front desk, they had gone home. I asked that they call Enkhtuvwhin, which they did but she refused to speak to me. The message that was passed on to me was, "have a nice night's sleep and she'll speak with you tomorrow." I asked if she had done her investigation only to hear the same reply ... repeatedly. We finally met the next day and she apologized. At no time though did she send anyone to repair the door, thermostat or refrigerator. At no time did she offer to move my room even though I had previously asked. At no time did she offer any measure of compensation. On my last night I asked if they would offer any compensation and Enkhtuvwhin said no. This message (she was not on the property) was delivered by desk agent Henry. I asked to speak with Enkhtuvwhin but her called the front desk manager, Chimgee. Chimgee was VERY apologetic and fully agreed that my experiences were not what I had paid for. Since Enkhtuvhin is the decision maker, her hands were tied. My reason for visiting Mongolia was two-fold … Primarily to explore the wonderful country that is Mongolia, and to see if the Novotel would be a hotel that is suitable for groups of future guests.

I stayed at Novotel for 7 nights while in Ulaanbaatar. Here is a breakdown of Novotel: Staff: The absolute best part is the friendly and accommodating staff at the hotel. They were all wonderful and fun to socialize with. They made my stay enjoyable for sure. Breakfast: Once again the staff were so wonderful at breakfast. The latte they made every morning for me was solid. The breakfast was average. Not bad, not amazing, but good enough. I think more options would go along way but Mongolian Cuisine Culture in general, breakfast isn’t the most important meal of the day, so I guess I don’t expect it. Gym & Pool: this area was great. They have a full gym with treadmills, free and machine weights, large pool, sauna, steam room, etc. I used it just about everyday. Rooms: This is where Novotel needs to address the biggest flaw which is no air conditioning. I e never been to a “higher end” hotel with no air conditioning. I don’t care if it’s minus 1000 degrees outside, that does me no good in my room and if I open the window, I’ll smell like burnt coals for my entire stay. If I book here again, I need to know that this is addresses. Other than that, the room is spacious, clean, well appointed, and has comfortable beds. Overall a great hotel but just the Air conditioning needs to be addressed.

It was an okay stay. Nothing much to talk about. Room was fine. Staff was okay We did not try any of the restaurants. We had room service one night. Food was okay - nothing much to talk about. Location is the best however. 5-10 mins walk to sukhbaatar square.

Great solution booked with good deal. Modern, clean, 10-15min walking distance from main square and Seul street. Very good value. All comforts, nice gym and pool, good breakfast and last but not least very kind staff. A special thank to Caty!
