We have stayed in Sofitel Barú for 4 nights. We had a suite with a beautiful view and very well located.   What we loved:   • Service (Everybody was very friendly). • Great facilities. • Our suite was spectacular. • Views. • Very nice GYM. • Drinks were delicious. • Pools. • Entertainment Team.   What we did not like it so much:   • It is too far away from everything; it took so long to get there (we had a private transfer).   We had to shorten our stay, as we thought that coming back to the airport from the hotel and then take a long flight was not a great idea, also we came back to Sofitel Santa Clara Legend because we loved it there and Sofitel Barú was not really what we expected, but this was our perception.   Would we come back? Probably, but maybe at the beginning of our trip in Colombia or maybe when the roads are well prepared to welcome us.   I have rated it 5*, because they really deserve it. Shout out to Mario form the Food Truck, John at the pool, Juan Camarero Calablanca and Stephania for assisting us in everything we would need to finish our trip the happiest possible.

Great family stay in April 2024

I stayed at the Sofitel Baru with my family of 5 for 4 nights in April 2024. We had a fantastic time! In particular, on the day we checked out, it was my son’s 10th birthday. Criseyra from guest services helped to prepare a birthday celebration at breakfast, with balloons at our table and a birthday treat to eat with his name on it. He was thrilled! Thank you for a wonderful experience! In addition to the special birthday celebration, the staff was kind and attentive. And the kids especially liked the different pools: the beach pool was a refreshing temperature and an infinity effect right on the beach with cabanas around it, the main pool (which was warmer) has an upper section with an infinity look that pours down to the lower pool and you can swim under the waterfall. On the beach, there are mini soccer goals, frisbees, a ping pong table, dart board, and corn hole and lots of places to sit. The room was fantastic. We had a family room, which was essentially 3 different rooms (2 bedrooms and 1 living room - my daughter slept in the living room on a bed the staff brought in). All 3 rooms connect to a large patio with a jacuzzi tub on it. The patio has a view of the ocean and the property. The breakfast buffet was huge, with lots of great options for adults and kids. For lunches, we ordered food from the Mexican food truck or the more upscale bar by the beach. Both had good kids menus. For dinners, we ate at the 3 restaurants, which were excellent. There are also an array of free activities we enjoyed, like juice-making classes (mainly you show up to the pool bar and they make fresh juices for you at 11am), Calzone and bread-making classes in the afternoons. I gave the concierge my WhatsApp number and she sent me the list of activities. They ask you to sign up for them the day before. There are also excursions you can pay for, but we didn’t opt for any of those. The fitness center was excellent: open 24 hours, and provided cold bottled water and towels. The gym has 2 treadmills, 1 elliptical, 3 stationary bikes, and 2 rowing machines. It also has 1 weight machine and 2 free weight benches with a good array of dumbbells (up to 22kg) and barbells too. And there’s a yoga studio with mats and steps. Overall, a really great stay with excellent facilities, beautiful pools and beach, and very attentive staff.

Beautiful, but unable to sleep due to loud private parties

This is a beautiful resort, but be aware that it is loud late into the night. On two of the four nights our family stayed, there were loud outdoor private parties on the property that can be heard clearly inside the room, even with all the doors shut. It is a shame because it’s so nice during the day, but then you can’t sleep at night due to the noise. We otherwise loved our stay, but I can’t recommend it for people with children or who want to go to sleep before 11:00 p.m.

Loved arriving by boat to this lovely hotel and beach. Restaurants were all excellent with very good service. We had a great time and would definitely recommend BUT- we had a bad room- second building from the water with no view but more disappointing is that no one returned my call when reception was too busy to answer to see if there was an alternate. Clearly someone else had already rejected it as there was a happy birthday cake in the room (not either of our birthdays). I expect better customer service from a hotel of this caliber. Also, more beach chairs with umbrellas are needed. Our first day, not getting to the beach until 2, there was nowhere in the shade to sit.
